I`ve been worrying about healthy living of late, you know, exercise and all that. I figured my diet was poor so i went out and bought myself some vitamin c tablets, they say the stuff works wonders and i hardly ever eat fruit.

So, can any of you sage fellows advise me on what might make me live longer, feel happier and look better? What are your secrets? Both silly and serious are welcome.

Rule 1.

Forget everything they tell you about what's good for you and what isn't.

Most of this "health advice" changes every couple of years so rather than trying to chase the trend, do what your body tells you.

Cravings are a natural thing, it's your body's way of telling you what it wants - the only time to be wary of this is during a time of artificially heightened dopamine activity

Vary your diet - chips everyday might be convenient, but variety is the spice of life.

Finally don't avoid "foods that are bad for you" if it's something you like.

If you enjoy the food eat it.

After all, who wants a longer life eating food they don't like.

Excercise...

A car is a car, not a siamese Twin.

Walk to the shops occasionally. It works wonders.

There was some survey in britain last week, it said that we're all Fat or something.

They suggest that people need twenty minutes walk a day to stay fit.

As one health expert replied "This is terrible, people can't get fit with just walking, this is sending out the wrong message"

The Gym owner then continued to explain how regular visits to a professional establishment are needed to stay healthy.

Hmm, well i try to take long, faster walks, they say that sort of walking is the best for you. I walk into town and back, thats about a six mile round trip. Though i only do that every so often, i usually just walk in or out. I do tend to eat too many biscuits, mercy me they are tempting. Good thoughts, Marl.

I tried to find some of that royal jelly stuff to take, and its not on the shelves? Is it out of fashion? I still see that Ginseng for sale, but i like honey and bees a lot more. Ideas? Any other things you can take that are a good idea?

usually girls that want to get skinny do stupid things like starve themselves or become bulimic...ew....all you have to do is play tennis or soccer or basketball like 3 - 4 times a week and not splurge everyday and you're fine...

The Diets are everywhere. It is all around us, even now in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window or when you turn on your television. You can feel it when you go to work, when you go to church, when you pay your taxes. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.
Neo: What truth?
Morpheus: That you are a slave, Neo. Like everyone else you were born into bondage, born into a prison that you cannot smell or taste or touch. A prison for your mind.... Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Diets are. You have to see it for yourself. This is your last chance. After this there is no turning back. You take the blue pill, the story ends, you wake up in your bed and Eatwhatever you want to eat. You take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.... Remember, all I'm offering is the truth, nothing more....

Don't know about anything like that, but my wife swears by Pilates. So far, the advice you've gotten is great. Especially from Marl. He is correct that you shouldn't cut yourself off from the "bad" foods that so many of us love. Just don't eat it everyday. Even better, watch what you eat during the week and set aside a day or two to eat whatever you want. But more important than anything else, EXERCISE! If your really committed to staying healthy and keeping weight off, this is best option.

Remember, the key to heath and fitness can be summed up in one sentence: Expend more calories than you take in.

How would YOU be able to tell the difference between the dream world...and the real world?

Here's how I stay fit and healthy.
I do Tae Kwon Do once, sometimes twice a week for the physical endurance part of staying fit, it also keeps the mind stimulated.
I eat what ever I want to eat, but I don't eat McDonalds much. Infact, if I'm in a food court, I buy something Asian like Indian or Japanese food. I only get McDonalds if it's the only thing to get.
Barely ever eat meat. I just don't really see meat as a nescessity. If you have Zinc problems, there are vegetables the restore you from this defiency.
If I'm sick, vitamin C tablets help quite a bit (2 a day.)
But I mainly try to walk about 20 minutes a day, which is easy to accomplish for me cus I walk about an hour a day.
I eat a shit load of vegetables, pasta, rice and salad for dinner since I know how to make all these things taste good.

Basicly, if you wanna eat heavily, do alot of excersize.
If you wanna be lazy and eat heavily. Get a better diet, but keep it tasteful.
Or have a balance, which is the best choice.

Well..... here I am.

Yes, Gpieters, i`ve heard of this pilates thing. Something involving rolling around on a big inflatable ball, supposed to be good for the back. That could actually be good for me, i get a rough back from my time in care work and lifting clients.

Hungarian kid, i see you are on the vitamin c tablets too, so thats good news for my health plan. Anyone tried this Atkins diet?

What about wearing copper bracelets? I get joint pain, anyone tested them? Maybe acupuncture or ayervidic tea?

This is probably the one thing that get under my skin. It drives me abso-fucking-lutely nuts! Now restaurants are offering Atkins this and Atkins that...WTF! In my opinion, the Atkins diet is a microcosm of America.

"I'm too lazy to exercise, but like drinking bacon grease. Is there a diet that allows me to pack my arteries solid but takes off weight fast?" Why, yes there is! The diet all Americans should use, ATKINS!

Jesus Fucking Christ. Whatever happened to everything in moderation.

you aint kidding

the atkins diet produces lots of ketones(alkanones)which are toxic to the human body and make your breath smell like shit...you may also fail a breath test while on the atkins diet despite not having a single drop

I saw this documentary on the Atkins Diet.

It was brilliant, not necessarily for the diet itself, but for the "experts" who kept getting everything wrong.

Basically they started out to prove it was a sham - it was filmed over several months with commentaries as they went.

They did scientific trials to demonstrate how it couldn't work - but it did.

Then they concluded that the effects wouldn't last - but they did.

They decided to "enhance" the diet by removing some of the things that they beleived couldn't contribute to the effects - It stopped working.

It's kind of satifying to see them all stumped "we can see that it works, but everything we know about diets tells us it shouldn't".

In the end the conclusion was

Eating high protein/low carbohydrate diet satisfies hunger quicker - ie though you can eat as much as you like, you get full quicker and so stop eating sooner.

Hmm, I feel there was a lot of guessing going on.

But like I said, watching 'em running in circles totally failing to disprove it - Brilliant.

I really don't get the atkins diet thing. you eat all meat and nothing else. not even certain vegetables or fruits. sure, you might lose some weight because you don't eat any starch, but the thing is...STARCH IS GOOD FOR YOU! jeeez weirdos these days

First of all. If you are a bit big around the waist than you should lose the fat GRADUALLY. Try to replace fat with muscle. Drink plenty of water but not too much. And who said that eating healthy tasts nasty! It does not! There are plenty of great tasting food! And get off of your butt and exercise. Screwy

You need to be careful to not hurt your knees when exercising. Shocked

Take a break if needed. We don't want any hospital visits. Cool

If your muscles hurt while you exercise than it is good. Just be careful okay. Thumbup
