Ok so one of the first images we see in the Matrix is Neo asleep at his computer while it's searching for info on Morpheus and/or the Matrix. Being comuter literate he obviously had a medium to go searching for likeminded people who didnt feel like the fitted into this world and something wasnt right.
Now there must have been countless other people who were not computer literate and therefore limited in the amount of information they could have found about why they felt strange and 'out of sorts' with the world. Maybe these people are considered mentaly ill or to have depression? There couldnt have been many support groups advertised in the local paper saying "Feel the world isnt real? can you make spoons bend just by thinking it? then come see us and we shall help explain what the hell is going on!"
It would appear that computer literate people or 'geeks' are at an advantage in escaping the Matrix. You could almost say the whole film is revenge against all the people who picked on the skinny bright kid in school! Seriously though it does seem a bit one sided to people with computer knowledge....i wonder what the verious ways a person with no access to internet or news could find members of the resistance and escape the Matrix?

Firstly, it will take geeks to rescue the world from control of the Uber-Geek Bill Gates.

Secondly, don't spoil it, I've got a nice place lined up in the new order. Cool

Hey anything to keep Uri Geller out of Zion is fine by me.

Could it be another side effect of the systemic anomoly. I offer three ideas on this - A Trinity of possibilities if you like..

1) That that certain "something" that makes 1% of the people feel out of place also gives them an affinity with computers.

We are told that this 1% or so are the people who made a different choice to the majority, they are effectively the Chaos in the Order, the Humanity in the Machine.

So perhaps a side effect of this is that they have a little order within their chaos, a little machine in their humanity.

It's kind of like recursion only different.

2) Another idea is yet another system of control. A little going away present from the Architect.

Since this minority have effectively rejected the system, their life experiences are manipulated to keep them and computers linked so that this affinity develops.

3) Or Finally, perhaps the reason is simply because it is an understanding of computers that leads them to make "the different choice".

The answer is in the digital realm.

What about all the kids in Oracle's apartment in M1?

I guess they weren't so familiar with computers and they were not searching for another people like them. I think it happend the other way round, that they were found, probably by the Oracle or with her help.

Neo is exception. Rebels usually do not free the older people as Morpheus said.

Another question is why are the kids still with Oracle? Why they weren't unplugged and send to the Zion? Maybe they have another task to do? I am a bit confused by that.

Yeh, that't right ... maybe the kids were just being prepared by the Oracle for unpluging? To mitigate the shock it would cause?

Nevertheless, WHO found the kids? I still think Oracle has her fingers in it ...

The kids in the Oracle's apartment were going to be my second arguement. They were either found or made their way to the Oracle somehow. Where are their parents? Either people who have doubts about the world they live in show up within the code somehow to the resistance(if thats the case then surely the machines would see them within the code too?) or there are places and signs withing the Matrix that are easy for the 'gifted' to find if they try.

the younger age you are the easier you pick up on things, maybe thats why there are so many and they were all doing something, ie spoon boy, or block girl. so maybe she found them because they could minipulate things.

I'm thinking about the conversation between the Oracle and Neo on the park bench in Reloaded. Where she tells Neo about all the weird stuff, aliens & vampires etc. being programs doing what they should not be doing. Neo says, 'programs hacking programs' and then the Oracle says 'we're all here to do..'
I'm thinking that the kids might be the gifted offspring of people that could be unplugged (those contacted by or aware of the existence of Morpheus, Trinity and the like) but choose not to be, but allow their progeny to embrace the possibility.

it crossed my mind that all the kids don't have to be unfree minds..why not programs helping the oracle, kinda like seraph to help to one realize what he needs to realize?

The woman who opens the door for neo and morpheus says that the kids are the other candidates.... so i don´t think they are programs.

Or maybe they´re just candidates for other "jobs"... maybe the oracle tries to have several opportunities to end it up just like she wants it Smile

Ok people....

The spoon kid and the others are potentials. They are addressed in one of the comics. They have higher abilities in the Matrix and are practicing these until the Oracle thinks they are ready. After that they are extracted from the Matrix and taken to Zion. Read this line-

Morpheus- Consider that in the past 6 months we have freed more minds than in 6 years.

So it makes sense to me that the spoonboy got freed sometime back and came to Zion. Then he heard that the One was here and he wanted to send him a good luck message. Best way to do that- send a spoon.

That makes total sense.

The 'spoonboy' actually imparted Neo a crucial piece of information and eventual wisdom with the 'there is no spoon' lesson, which allowed him to embrace his ultimate 'One' status.
A crucial nudge at a crucial time.
In Zion, the spoonboy sends Neo a spoon via the only person who has ever self-ejected from the Matrix, right before Neo goes and gets himself trapped in Limbo.
Maybe this was a deliberate message, or another nudge for Neo?

that was also a part where it seems "outside" influences progress the way they need to go...without "spoonboy"(i'm glad i made that name...i need to copywrite it) gift, bane would have killed neo, just like the bridge collapsing forcing trinity to go into the matrix....so of the stuff which we can only explain with the matrix within a matrix theories...(which i don't believe) maybe suports the theory of a God outside the matrix and the real world? trying to help the peace along? just another crazy theory by yours truly..

Ya I really like those examples showing relations between the Matrix and the real world and how they really do affect one another. It doesn't necessarily mean that the real world is another Matrix. It could mean that there is a higher system of control governing both the worlds that the humans/machines dont know about. If the Matrix is parallel to our world, then that also brings about some interesting philosophical ideas about who is in control.

yah that really is an interesting subject....makes you wonder about tank and cypher in M1....

Quote:

Cypher: Don't hate me, Trinity. I'm just the messenger, and right now I'm gonna prove it to you. If Morpheus was right, then there's no way I can pull this plug. I mean if Neo's The One, then there'd have to be some kind of a miracle to stop me. Right? I mean how can he be The One if he's dead? You never did answer me before if you bought into Morpheus' bullshit - come on - all I want is a little yes or no. Look into his eyes, those big pretty eyes. Tell me. Yes or no?
Trinity: Yes.
Cypher: No.

[Nebuchadnezzar]
Cypher: I don't believe it.
Tank: Believe it or not, you piece of shit, you're still gonna burn.

that was the first example of this "outside" power or fate or whatever u wanna call it...note that cypher says he's just the messenger...and the message is there are miracles at work here? it does take a few of them for the one to get where needs to go...

Sorry, One-der Man, but you aren't the first to think of "spoonboy." I have seen it before. I once read an idea for a band name (quite some time ago, and I don't recall where or when, sadly) that stuck with me because it made me laugh: Spoon Boy and the Potentials! I do remember that it was in something relating to The Matrix, though, so, you're too late!

Interesting topic, though! Smile

by the way annaerullo, what do you think about the above discussion? about the outside influences helping the story along?
