I find the scene just as important as most of the other scenes in the movies.

I believe the symbolic language in the scene is about love, emotions and feelings. The very things that makes us differ from machines.
The fact, that the population of Zion (at least the ones dancing) is primarily coloured people is a reference to the fact, that life itself begun in Africa (Mesopothamia).
Furthermore it is important to show, that Zion is a dirty, casual place in contrast to the scene of the Architect (everything white and clean). And of course there is a perfectly clear Hell/Heaven relationship between those two scenes (ex. lava is flowing straight though Zion!).

Conclusion: I find the scene way to important to be removed...

actually that was the point when i started to enjoy the movie when i saw it the first time.. it was bland, but in a lovely way, plus there's some wonderful shoddy dialouge scenes between neo and trin before and after.. that arc was great too.

Well for me I love the song as well as the dance. It was really cool and neat. That was one of the parts of the movie that I liked alot.

If you are looking for the title of the song that played as the musical backdrop for the Zion rave/Neo and Trinity love scene then it is simply "Zion" by the artist "Fluke".
It is available on the Matrix Reloaded double-disc soundtrack which by the way, I thought was one of the top CD's of 2003 and I still play it or parts of it only a nearly daily basis.

After Morpheus sets the atmosphere, closing in prayer, Neo says..

"I was thinking...everyone is here". To which Trinity responds...

I quite liked it, I found it to be powerful in explaining how these people function in their times of celebration when they aren't being attacked by machines.
