Quick thought on The Merovingian and Persephone....

Here's just a little something that I thought up all of a sudden.

The Merovingian told Neo that he has "sampled" every language. We also know that he is a trafficker of information.

From Persephone we know that she likes to "sample" kisses.

We know that both of them are exiles.

Conclusion:

The Merovingian's purpose before becoming what he is today was to investigate human intellect. On the other hand, Persephone's purpose could have been to investigate human emotions. Both complementing each other.

How's that? Evilredeyes

Unfortunately no one can be told what The Matrix is...You have to see it for yourself.

Ahh....another good post and idea by Oscar.

Well, I have also recently thought about what you say about Persephone. She most likely was a program designed to understand love but the machines screwed up. Compare the love analysis of Persephone with that of the Oracle. Quite a difference, heh? Also it is probable that Persephone became corrupt and lustful (difference between love and lust) and thats why she feeds on the emotions of others (Neo, Ghost and Niobi).

However, I have different feelings about the Merovingian. Many have suggested, and I agree with this, that he was orginally created to help the Architect understand why the first Matrix collapsed. This explains his obsession with understanding the WHY and his obsession with causality as he was asked to find the cause. Also it would explain his immense hatred of the Oracle. Because after he failed in his job, the Oracle was created to replace him.

Thoughts....

A lot of people have theorized the above, including me. It would be a very good explanation as to why Mero hates the Oracle so much: she rendered him obsolete when she discovered the trick to keeping the humans jacked into the matrix from rejecting the programming (that 99% will accept the programming as long as they are given a choice about it, even on a subconscious level.) Merv was probably scheduled for deletion, and went into exile with Persephone rather than face destruction.

I'm writing a fanfic to this effect, in fact. Smile

Thanks Akshat, I have to say that you, Fatpie, Agent Zero, Grendelvs, Another Smith and me (modest bastard! LOL) have become the fundaments of this forum. So coming from you, I take this as a compliment.

I'll post more ideas when they come to me. Cool

I'd posted this on another thread that deals with the Merovingian and Persephone.

Quote:

From this site:

whatisthematrix.warnerbros.com...

“He’s the personification of all forms of indulgence in the voluptuousness of life,” says Lambert Wilson of his voracious character. “What he lacks, and therefore what he likes to indulge in, is emotion.”

“ The Merovingian and Persephone are like vampires in that way,” says Monica Bellucci, who plays the manipulative trophy wife. “They want to provoke emotion in other people so they can feed on it. Persephone is very elegant, very sophisticated, but also very corrupt, and she’ll use her power to get what she wants – which is to feel.”

Well, coming from the actors themselves, I think it's true then. It makes sense. But that surely is what they do now. The things that make me wonder are what did they do before? and WHY? I hope the brothers explain this a many other things on an Animatrix 2.

hi, i have to say i´m glad to be in this forum for it has given me some very cool inspiration on this whole matrix thing.

thanx dudes Smile

So what do you think, wouldn´t it be beyond the merv´s purpose when he wants to get the oracle´s eyes, or is it just to get more information about humanity, casualty (that he´s so keen on). Maybe he just wants to figure out what this talking about choice means Screwy

I think it has to do with The Oracle telling Neo: "What do all men with power want?...More power."

He just wants to see the future to have more power.

merv's whole being is brought up on cause/effect...with the oracles eyes he could see the strings of the puppets in front of him...getting him ever so close to the "why" he has been searching for...

in regards to him wanting the shell? i'm guessing he wanted the believers in the oracle to have some doubt in her...(like when morpheus isn't sure to trust her when she looks different) to impede their progress because his paradise is in jeopardy with this "new one"..."i have survived your predecessors, i will survive you"...sounds likehe's wanting the cycle to continue, yes?

Or just to fuck with her. Remember he told Seraph that while it was dissappointing to know she found another shell, it wasn't unexpected.

Going back to the Persephone thing....I think she may have been introduced to investigate the human emotion of love but from a machines limited interpretation. From an entity that does not 'feel' the whole love thing it could look quite basic:
Two humans are attracted to each other, they touch and share personal space alot, they kiss and have sex, and ultimately reproduce as the result of the above equation.
As a machine would mathematically look at this, as an equation, would it not look like this?
physical attraction + physical contact = offspring (the symbol of creation from love ie: Sati?)

Anyway, I think Persephone is the machines interpretation of how to investigate the love emotion. She is the apple for Adam so to speak, the temptation for every man to fall in love with.
The failure is that the machines did not understand the depth of the 'love' emotion, seeing it initially as a physical thing that Persephone could 'sample' by initiating physical contact.
What say you all?

Very good. Thats what I tried to say earlier too. Also compare the love of Persephone and that of the Oracle. I would say that the Oracle replaced both Persephone and Mervie

I think that while Mero knows that the Oracle is probably too powerful for him to extinguish entirely, he would like to do as much damage as he can.

Damn, I wish I had more time to work on this fanfic, because it deals with this very issue. It has flashbacks of when the Oracle replaced Mero, and my theory of what happened. I'm juggling it with my original fiction, and I'd like enough time to do both. Cool BTW, the prologue is up on my website:

I think it is a very good point. Thanks guys!

I guess the reaosn why Merovingian want to have Oracle's eye is that she is so good in human psychi, able to predict the human reaction more accurately and able to direct the human all around.

Look at him, he even don't know his wife will betray him. So, no doubt he failed in his past job !
