Religious/Mythological Character Connections

Okay this came up in another topic so I decided to give it its own home for debate.

Ok assuming that the matrix is the world we currently live in. Which of the movie characters would be our Religious and Mythological figures. Heres my take.

The Architect

The Architect can be argued to be God but I actually believe he is the voice of God, The Metatron. A part of God that can go into the matrix to speak with others.

The Oracle

The Oracle I believe represents Hades. Her sole goal is to take humans from the possession of the machines out of the matrix. Seeing the matrix as our world she's like the devil. Bending her words so that we will do what she needs us do to.

Deus Ex Machina

Deus Ex I believe represents God in his true form, the "God" machine in the real world which if the matrix is our world, the real world is eternity either in Zion (Hell) or the Machine City (Heaven)

The Merovingian

Gatekeeper between our world and heaven. A reference to Saint Peter

Neo

Obviously Jesus Christ... Nothing more to say there

Morpheus

Morpheus is actually a mytholigical God.. He was the God of dreams. Fitting huh? I'm not sure if thats who his character would actually be. That one im open for ideas on.

Smith

Okay im going deep with this one. I know its even said that smith is neo's opposite, his negative. But my theory is based on the other words about the two. Especially when Smith says "I'm you". I see smith as Jesus Christ after death, Christ died to free us of original sin. I think maybe Smith represents Christ doing that copying every person showing that with his death (when neo killed him at the end of M1) he was present in us all to free us of our original sin. Now this next part is a stretch because we don't actually know when Smith got back into the matrix after his death. But I think its awfully close to 3 days which was the length of time Jesus Christ was dead combating the devil and whatnot to free us of our sins until the end of the climatic battle where in one his job is done and everyones sin is gone. Of course you could also argue that smith is the original sin and Christ (Neo) had to give up his life to free us all from it. Could argue either way. Ill let that up for debate.

As for now Im done listing, anyone else anyone wants to name based on their theories or name your own theories on those already listed.

Its up for debate

Thats interesting stuff. I think though that Dues Ex represents the devil and Neo represents Christ. I think that Neo died to break the bondage of the matrix or sin. Christ died to free us from sin, bondage. In the end when neo goes to the source he did that. now in the bible Jesus died and went to hell for 3 days to break our sins. thats what i think. Neo represnts Christ and Dues Ex represents the ultimate evil. Smith is just a bi product of that. Satan has many demons and smith is just one, you know what i mean. Theres kinda a big hole there though isnt there. Maybe someone else can fill it.

Well your not thinking in terms of the matrix. Your looking at it from an outsiders perspective. You have to see it like the matrix isn't a bad place, the matrix is our earth. Our planet. And see the real world as heaven and hell. If the matrix is our world I can't possibly see how its creators, the machines and the architect would be anything but God and the Metatron

I can really wreck your brain and go with my computer system theory. Same as this one but instead comparing characters to parts of a computer system based on the theories of how they act in reference to the matrix. But ill save that for another day and its own topic

Architect: Denial is the most predictable of all human responses.

I've never thought of the Oracle that way, this greatly intrigues me. I had always seen Mero as the devil. His power and dillusion. The way he talks about choice, which was "given" to man by the devil, and of course Club Hell, but you give a compelling argument. Oh yeah and his wife Persephone (wife of Hades.)

Flip a coin. Choose heads or tails but, if you knew every variable, there would be no choice, only an answer. That is how the Architect works.
