Cool John, is that what you would like? To have your concioussness uploaded into a computer?
I think it would be totally excellent! All we would have to do would be to wait for a new body to be created for us... What is real

Yeah but it wouldn't be YOU would it? It'd just be like an identical twin.

Besides where'd you find this info?

2030...hmm...26 years from now...i'd be....STILL ALIVE! in fact, still VERY MUCH alive.

wouldnt you be bored hanging around earth eternally though...? i mean like, it's not like you're young again, you just don't die, so your body is still old and ancient and you wouldn't be able to do the stuff you would want to do anyway.

You're just jealous 'cause the voices only talk to me.

And also the fact that if you can imagine that all the things you hate about life would be there. forever, at least when you die you dont have to worry about stupid crap like will i get the job or who to vote for.

Sorry let's get this thing straight. This thing can take your mind out of your body?

I always thought that the part of you that makes you who you are is your brain (certainly personality-wise). So unless the machine is housing your brain, how is it YOU anymore? It seems to me that "uploading your consiousness" merely means creating an A.I. that acts just like you would. If that were the case you could look at your uploaded consiousness while still in your body, using your brain, as usual.

How is it not just like having an identical twin and (more importantly I feel) can you really attribute any of its acheivements to yourself?

Well it didnt say excactly...and i wonder is it the electrical impulses of the brain (software) or the neurons/veins/brainmass (hardware) that makes us who we are? coz electrical impulses (energy) cant be destroyed just turned into a different kind of energy, which makes for an interesting conclusion...but i dont want to power someones radiator when i die 3Tooth

Man this topic makes my brain hurt. Its interesting to think about but i would never be able to transfer bodies. Its just not possible all of your friends will eventually die and your family to. its sad.

If you could do it, what makes you think your friends wouldn't? Then we could all be robots together. I just don't think it would work.

I'd accept that they might be able to make an A.I. of me (like the holograms in Red Dwarf) but I can't imagine it being of any use to the real biological me. It might be useful for those left behind though....

Good to hear, i`d certainly do it. I remember posting in the "would you choose zion or the matrix" thread that i would rather choose zero 1 and be a computer loaded consciousness. I have always thought that if we could change our bodies at will then we would all be much happier. We could do so much more, the human body is neither versatile nor durable when it comes to the problems of survival. The sooner we are rid of it, the better.

Interestingly, if anyone has played the very old computer strategy game "Total annihilation", this very issue caused a war that destroyed all of civilization. So, it could well be a bad thing when it gets invented.
