his human body is dead in the sense that we know it.. but there is so much more to it than that.. he attains enlightenment and is therefore freed from the burdens of physical existence and reaches a state of nirvana.. or if u want the scientific instead of the spiritual explanation then u might also say he lives on in the sense that the code he carried was returned to the source and will be re-used at the emergence of the next integral anomaly.

The biggest pieve of evidence I use to decide is when the Oracle tells Sati she supposed they will see him again sometime.

Well, maybe the oracle means that they will see him (The One) again, not necessary Neo.

anomaly i agree...hes almost as bad as nick cage...but to give keanu some kinda credit... he was suppose to be using that well known matrix monotone we all know and love... i bow to his acting skills!

Neo's ultimate purpose is to preserve. But this is more of a self decided purpose (since the One is the product of an unpredictable anomaly).

For the machines, his purpose is to preserve by allowing his code to be absorbed and to balance the equation.

For the humans his purpose is to preserve by saving Zion and the human race.

Another way to answer it is to look at Smith.

Neo and Smith are perfect opposites. So while Smith's twisted purpose is to destroy everything, Neo's purpose is to preserve (or create, if you look at the peace he generates).

This is what Smith means when he says: "I want what you want. I want everything".

Smith wants to destroy everything, whereas Neo wants to preserve it.

Yes and I think that the W. bro gave us enough hint to assume that wAkE_uP_nEo got it right.
On the official site, there is a pic with a plate "dedicated to Thomas Anderson", wich implies that he's physically dead but the Oracle's comment suggests that Neo's mind is still somewhere there, under the form of a program.

Like Rama said it, love is just a word, what matters is the connection that implies. So, if that program thinks like Neo and has all his memories, can't we say that he's still alive somewhere in the matrix ?
After all, all the programs have the right to go hide in the Matrix or to be deleted, why could not the One have that right too ?

that is a great point! i always thought neo had to survive one way or another because of an article i read about matrix online which stated clearly that the world was inhabited by agents and large groups of Neo's. Also if you look at my topic about the end of the matrix i said why i thought he was still alive...

when he stoped the sentinels he wasnt ready and it should have killed him BUT HE WASNT READY FOR THAT EITHER so maybe neo is in mobil ave again!

He possibly be in Mobil, or in custody of Merv, because he take cares of programs that lack od purpose (after to make the peace with machines)

I think hes not dead, but any way the purpose of this thread of forum is not to discuss about he's dead or not, only his purpose.

The purpose of Neo is to entertain those rebels who does'nt accept the matrix, everithing is a Ilusion, the difference in those who have power and who doesn't as Merv says, He's the only one saying the Truth, because is his business to know, he cannot lie!. Machines will become faster, intelligent than we are, they are our post-sesors. Our final destination of our evolution, as homo sapiens coexisted with previous species not developed.

He is part of the 'Oracle' program's coding to maintain control of the 1% who don't accept the 'Matrix' simulation.

In the context that 'Zion' is a simulation, 'The One' is introduced by the machines to end the current 'Zion' cycle and move to the next version.

We know from M3 that the 'Neo' avatar is taken away by the machines as a result of a series of events that was not planned by the 'Architect' program. We know from MatrixOnline material that the inhabitants of the 'Zion' simulation are upset that the body of Neo has not been returned.

What we don't yet know is what happened with the real human behind the 'Neo' avatar. Perhaps he is actually freed in the real 'Real World', in which case yes he can conceivably interact with the 'Oracle' and 'Sati' programs in the future.
