Can't overlook the Bruce Lee greats:

The Big Boss
Chinese Connection
Way of the Dragon

...and for shear comical value 'Game of Death 2'!

Are there any 'Kung Faux' fans lurking on this forum?

Dont forget Mortal Kombat (just the first one). Good music too.

Equilibrium has some interesting fight scenes in that involve close combat stuff and alternative fighting techniques.

Similarly Blade and Blade 2 for the sword fights and close quarter rumbles.

well i think we can give Brandon Lee a bit of slack on that, since he died during the filming of it. had he not died, The Crow would probably have been considered his "breakthrough movie" and he might have gone on to make some more good movies.

I personally think Brandon Lee would've just gone on and made more shit, the Crow was just a lucky break.

Mortal Kombat 1 is good yes. 2 IS JUST BLOODY AWEFUL! If the costumes weren't enough to put you off, the movie's poor acting, fighting, cgi and story would have. But 1 was different, it wasn't great but it was watchable and the fighting was worth watching.

It was a quick ten. I wouldn't say it had good acting or a good soundtrack or a good story, I just liked some of the pen-ultimate fighting. Besides I've got Hero and Shaolin Temple, two of Li's best movies and he also did some of the fight coreography for Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.

Kill Bill is awesome, I'm gonna get the DVD soon. I can't wait to watch the sequel - it'll be awesome! Smile

I really want to see Zatoichi but since it is a foreign film you can bet it'll be ages before it comes out. It took over two years for the anime "Spiritied Away" to get to the cinema - that's how little Britain seems to cater from the foreign movie market (we aren't counting American or Australian films as "foreign" here, as you all well know!) Anyway Takeshi Kitano rocks Smile

i have to say, i really disliked the special effects in The One.. it takes the astonishment out of it.. Jet Li is almost special effect by himself.. masking a lot of his technique is so unnecessary..

that doesn't mean i'm a purist when it comes to martial arts movies.. i think effects can be great if used appropriately.. Matrix trilogy is a great example of that.

Kill Bill is the next best thing to the Matrix Saga. So raw and full-on. "You're names buck and you're here to fuck" SLAM SLAM SLAM. Awesome fighting, awesome story, fantastic music, great characters and just an all out awesome movie. Lucy Lui shocked me with good acting and theres a brilliant anime sequence that goes for about 15 minutes.

I've seen Ninja Scroll, fantastic.

Any anime/ kung fu fans? See CowBoy Bepop the Movie.

Yeah, Kill Bill is the shit. Not to mention Tarantino. I've loved every one of his movies. But seriously, go see KBv2. It's not as action-heavy as KBv1, but it's still great. And Samuel L. has a cameo!

As for great Kung-Fu movies, y'all have pretty much nailed 'em. Especially Anomaly w/Zatoichi. Also, you guys are forgetting about the master...AKIRA KURASAWA! Ran, Throne of Blood, Seven Samurai, all great.

As for great Gun-Fu, check out these three:

The Killer - John Woo's best film w/o a doubt
Fallen Angels - just...cool
Hard Boiled - Another one of Woo's best

ouch, that's too bad.. although i wonder what he thought it was going to be like!

personally i think the violence is depicted so outrageously that it serves as a reminder that it is a tale of fantasy
