I'm trying to put together a couple of CDs to play DJ at a friend's 80's party and I'm looking for multiple people's opinions on what their top ten favorite 80's tunes are. Would you folks mind giving me your input?

Oh oh oh! I'm on a Mega80s kick! Here's my current playlist:

INXS: New Sensation / One of my kind
Pet Shop Boys: West End Girls
Robert Palmer: Simply Irresistable/ Addicted to Love
A Ha!: Take On Me
Crowded House: Hey Now, Hey Now
Spandau Ballet: True or Gold
Sting and the Police: Every Breath You Take
Phil Collins: In the Air Tonight (if you listen to the words, it sounds like Neo talking to Smith)
Duran Duran: Rio /Dance into the Fire/Save a Prayer
Michael Jackson: Billie Jean, Bad, Smooth Criminal, Thriller
Frankie Goes To Hollywood: Relax / Two Tribes
Adam Ant: Prince Charming/ Stand and Deliver
ABC: Look of Love / Poison Arrow
Dexy's Midnight Runners: Come on Eileen
Soft Cell: Tainted Love
WHAM: Club Tropicana and Jitterbug, of course.
Simple Minds: Don't you Forget About Me

That should be enough to give you some ideas from the glorious decade Thumbup

Edit: thought of a couple more, unfortunately - these always seem to go down well at clubs on School Disco nights (yes, I went to School Disco. And yes, I wore a schoolgirl outfit as well... well I *was* a Catholic schoolgirl, straight up - and everything you've heard about us is true Twisted Evil ):
BUT I digress...

Hey Mickey!
Walk like an Egyptian
Kraftwerk's Robot Dance
Madonna's Vogue (late 80s but is always good to get people up dancing), Material Girl, Dress you up in my love (shudder)

Unfortunately U2 wrote great stuff in the 80s but none of it dance-able. If you wanna include some U2 (perhaps mix it in if you like), I still haven't found what I'm looking For and With or Without You (I'd dance to U2 but then again I'm a sad U2 fan from the very beginning). If you want to go further back into their 80s catalogue, I suggest Sunday Bloody Sunday or New Years Day. And of course, Pride (In The Name of Love) of which there is a remixed/reworked dance version you should be able to track down.

I want to be an Agent of the Matrix when I grow up...

Ha, Ha, Buns 'n' Toasties

No seriously, I liked the early stuff until I heard the band they totally stole their look and sound from.

Now they're just a faded memory of a pale imatation of some real talent.

Don't ask me the name of the band, a friend played them for me a while back, the only thing I do know is they predate G'n'R by at least Ten years.

80s were a disaster for movies or songs or anything...thank god i was too stupid at that age

The 80's are just one huge blank for me, it's like I woke up in 1992 and had all this music I didn't remember buying and all these clothes I'd never knew existed! Otherwise, the 70's were heaps better for music.

Nothing has really changed since then, the majority of movies, fashion and music are still crap. Every decade has it's highlight though!

There are some very famous c64 songs that everybody knows (who has used c64 back then). There are remixed mp3s of these tunes. Always nice to have some of them flying around when you are a party DJ.

You can't go wrong w/The Police. Pick any song off "Ghost in the Machine" or "Syncroncity" and you'll be set. Even if Sting is a weird fuck, they were pretty good.

How would YOU be able to tell the difference between the dream world...and the real world?

Uh, yeah...you could say that. Appearently, Sting likes the "rough stuff." Along with the "orgy stuff" and the "tantric stuff" and the "having sex with your students when you're a professor at a college while your rock band is trying to get off the ground stuff." Whitelaugh

The Smiths - This Charming Man
Suzanne Vega - Luka
Nena - 99 Red Balloons
The Cure - Love Cats
U2 - Gloria (preferably the live version)
Peter Gabriel - Sledgehammer
Michael Jackson - Bad
Rocky Horror Picture Show (soundtrack) - Time Warp

Hmm a bit of a mixed bunch my tastes....

Ooh silly me nearly forgot:
Soft Cell - Tainted Love (though I prefer the Marilyn Manson)
