I think I know what the main message is in all three movies.

Ignorance is bliss....

In other words, there are so many variables in the equation that eventually you have to give up and realize that you have to die in order for peace to come. That is why Neo died.

Um... the main issue of the first was Faith
of the second, Hope
and of the third, Love

The most important thing seems to be choice (of beliefs perhaps?) and purpose is fairly irrelevant. Does there always have to be a point to everything Smith?

I feel the themes and messages of the trilogy were many and it is very interpretive but I feel that Big Mista's conclusion is wrong.

Cypher thought that ignorance is bliss and, debatably, no one is potrayed as more evil than him....

Cypher couldn't help it

He "Burn out", but his POINT OF VIEW wasn't evil. He couldn't stand living in a world where he wasn't loved....he wanted the Matrix back because he felt rejected in the 'Real' world (notice how he was jealous of Trinity liking Neo a lot) and he wanted to experience a world which was 'normal' to him again.

Sure, it was wrong for him to kill people, but he DID realize that the Matrix is the way to go.

The whole point of the movies is to make you think. They are intelligent movies, that stimulate your brain cells. So that whole "Ignorance is bliss" argument being the main message in the movies is dead wrong.

Unfortunately no one can be told what The Matrix is...You have to see it for yourself.

Ignorance may be bliss, but knowledge is divine.

I can't believe anyone who would post on these forums would really hold that view... if this really is what you think, Man-oh-man, BigMista... I think you need to watch the movies again. And when you're done, watch them again.

If this is really what you think, then you obviously would have taken the blue pill. Let me guess... are you by any chance a conservative Christian? It would appear that you would prefer to be told what to believe, rather than to make your own decisions.

The trilogy is about, as Fatpie42 said, Faith, Hope, and Love. But it is also about Initiation. The first movie is about Neo's reluctant acceptance of the truth of the mysteries of the matrix, and his initiation into the outer mysteries as the One. The second is about Neo's initiation into the inner mysteries, as he touches the source. The third movie initiates Neo into enlightenment/nirvana/gnosis as he BECOMES one with Smith, thus reconciling the conflict between the One and the Many. Neo did not "give up." Neo WOKE up. In fact, Neo wakes up no less than twice in each film, literally and figuratively. That's the point: not to give up, but to wake up.

When we watch these movies, we walk with Neo along the path to enlightenment. If you choose to walk with Cypher instead, you really are walking in (blissful) ignorance, and you are matrix-explained.com... You are taking the blue pill.

You are welcome to it.

'faith, hope and love'....haha....the three main ingredients to keep humans bound. 'faith' is not knowing. when one KNOWS then 'faith' is irrelevent. 'hope' in what? all one can do is 'fix' themselves and to do that it has to be done."ill try harder next time"..."no try..do or do not". and of course..love,ah love. what kind of love? there are countless perceptions and interpretations of 'love'. 'love' as an attachment? 'love' as true expression of realizing the connection with the 'universe'?
