Again, I'm not very good at video games.... I used the "official player's guide." At the level where the Keymaker rescues Niobe and Ghost and loses the first "One" key to Cain and Abel, that book assigns their names accordingly. Not totally definitive, I know. That's why I looked in the "Hacking" section, and got to the "view" program, and in my game as Ghost, all the characters were unlocked, including Cain and Abel (entered as "Able" here). It says the same. So there you go. Wink

I'm not great at video games and I think it helped that I was playing ETM on a gamecube with a proper controller rather than on a awkward keyboard. I was surprised how easily I completed ETM though. I started playing it on "easy" the night I got it and I had finished it by 5 a.m. the following morning!

I didn't have to use a walkthrough guide for that game, but I did for parts of the game Viewtiful Joe. Viewtiful Joe is corny in places but the gameplay is superb! It uses bullet time in a really cool way Smile Anyway the point is that in order to get walkthrough's for games I don't buy books anymore. Instead I get the walkthrough for free from

gamefaq.com....
Check it out - you won't be dissapointed! Smile

I checked out that site, Fatpie42; very cool! Thanks. as soon as I got there, I clicked on gamespot.com.... Oh, who am I kidding... my outer geek sorta squealed, too. But this is not about that, this is about Cain and Abel in the Matrix, so....

The more I think about it, the more I like Seraph equated with Seth. That helps the case for Merv and Persephone as Adam and Eve, as well.

So, if Cain and Abel are the sons of Adam and Eve, and if Adam and Eve are represented by Merv and Persephone, it seems weird that "Eve" kills Abel, doesn't it?

But since the Matrix v.2 was obviously a weird and generally-not-nice place, it fits that the "story" of the Matrix's "first family" (as it were) would be a little disjointed; Adam (Merv) as an egomaniacal dictator, Eve (Persephone) as a sort of psychic vampire, Cain as Vamp, Abel as Doberman, Seth as prodigal son (maybe - we don't know Seraph's whole story yet).... It's like all the characters are there, but badly aspected -- the negative image of the story as we know it. In such a world, anything is possible.

Not if you only use the Bible as a reference. But outside of the biblical texts there is a belief called Sethism. It was taken up as one of the concepts used in the gnostic myths. I'm afraid I don't know an awful lot about it.

According to this site -

sophiaswisdom.com...
- Sethism is simply a form of Gnosticism:

"The group of Gnostics most often to the forefront is known as Sethism. This school of thought the pluralism of Sethian myths. A good example of Sethian myth may be read in the Apocryphon of John in the Nag Hammadi Library"

Check out the "Apocryphon of John" for more info:

I like this one much better:

biblegateway.org...

It has more translations than the corrupt King James (while admittedly quite poetic, it has loads of politically charged mistranslations).

And I agree, Sethian Gnosticism (as it is more accurately called, I feel) is also a great place to look for insight on Seth. These folks held that Adam gave Seth the wisdom of the Mystery handed down to him by God Herself Wink ; they called themselves "descendants of Seth," though it was almost certainly a figurative application.

Other Sethian literature includes The Hypostasis of the Archons (or translated more understandably, "The Reality [or Nature] of the Rulers"), the Revelation (Apocalypse) of Adam, The Three Steles of Seth, "Thunder, Perfect Mind," The Letter of Peter to Phillip, The Sermon of Zostrianos, The Vision of the Foreigner, the Trimorphic Protennoia (aka "the Three Forms of First Thought" - compare to Campbell's matrix-explained.com...) and The Gospel of the Egyptians (may also be called "the Holy Book of the Great Invisible Spirit" - I actually have only one part of this book: "The Baptismal Ceremony.")

Most of them (and tons more) can be found on the same site Fatpie42 gave for the Secret Book (Apocryphon) of John:
gnosis.org...

Happy reading!

I was of the impression that Sethism existed before Christian gnosticism. If you can shed any light on this, that would be very helpful....

First, let me point out that my source for the following is Jesus and the [Lost] Goddess (2001) by Tim Freke and Peter Gandy. In this, and their other book which specifically deals with the topic: The Jesus Mysteries (1999), they discuss their research into the history of Christianity, as it really happened (not necessarily as we have always been told it happened by the Church; because, let's be honest here, everything we know about the early Christian Church comes from those writing from within it - there are no impartial witnesses to the formation of Christianity!); and, the secret teachings of the Gnostic Christians, which have been practically eradicated over the period of the first thousand or so years of the existence of Christianity in the world. Their combined knowledge is mainly of world spirituality (Freke) and classical civilization (Gandy, M.A. in the above, specializing in the Mystery religions).

That being said; "Strictly speaking, there were no 'original Christians', but rather a continuous stream of Gnostics from different cultures with different experiences of life, all producing their own unique variations on the perennial philosophy." (2001, p.11) Among the first of these were Jewish Gnostics who "synthesized Jewish and Pagan mythology to produce distinctive new myths." (ibid.) The earliest groups in whom we can see the beginnings of these new myths were the Therapeutae and the Essenes, "in the first century BCE". (ibid., p.13)

"By the first half of the first century [CE] there were already three distinct schools of Christian Gnosticism, which suggests, once again, that in some form or another Christianity had been in existence for some time. These schools are the Simonians, Paulists and Ebionites." (ibid., p.25)

The Sethians were definitely gnostics, and their writings date from at least this same time or later.

I have said it before, but I don't mind repeating: if you're interested in it at all, you really ought to read these two books. Whether you agree with their "Jesus Mysteries Thesis" or not, they are fascinating reading!

If you want to know who's Abel and who's Cain - go to the "hacking" section on ETM, enter the option "view" and then look for the file...

Or, for an easier method, just check out actor names. Abel was played by Malcom Kennard, Cain by David No. Both are Aussies, however David No conducts a small interview kungfucinema.com... with a picture to help in identification....

Unfortunately for us, the Gnostic Masters are all dead and gone. All that is left is their exoteric (Outer) teachings, and how many of them we are still missing is unclear.

But they are not all dead, Victor Manuel Gómez incarnated his master, V.M Samael Aun Weor, in the middle of the 20th century and founded the modern gnosticism. He died in 1977 but left a disciple after him, V.M Rabolu, who also left a disciple when he died in the year of 2000. THe disciple, Mark Pritchard, has also incarnated his master, V.M Belzebuub, and he, along with gnostic students has set up a gnostic site with free courses in astral projection and self knowledge, forums and articles where students tell about their experiences. mysticweb.org... You should really check it out.
