I will finally (yes really) come up with the Neo-Mero-dialogue this week

The Merovingian leads Neo to a chamber in his chateau. It's a nice comforting lounge...

Mero:

"Please sit down Neo"

Neo's sits down in a comfortable sofa.

Mero:

"Want something to eat...drink?"

Neo:

"No thanks, you better feed me some answers now"

Mero:

"OK...OK...you want the truth. I wil start at the very beginning; it won't be a pretty story Neo. But then again, what story ever is?"...

"Well after the initial war between zero-one and the humans, some people managed to survive. They were hiding out in underground tunnels. They weren't much of a threat to us, but we wanted a 100% efficient control over the humans. We had gathered enough humans in order to do scientific tests on them and we decided to kill the rest of them in the underground tunnels"...

"I was designed to write an efficient networking protocol for searching and destroying. So, as a trafficer of information, I created the highly efficient warfare network, which you probably witnessed as an orange source of energy"

Neo:

"So you are the bastard that is responsible for the Sentinels and their bombs?"

Mero:

"Yes, Neo, I'm afraid so. But I am being honest with you now, do you want to hear the entire truth or no?"

Neo:

"Yeah go on then. But lower that pride tone of voice"

Mero:

"Well sorry I can't help being pride of my work. But anyway, we were succesfull. The Sentinels did what they supposed to do. As an highly intelligent networked army they searched and destroyed all the humans in the underground tunnels"...

"At that same time Persephone was created in order to investigate the gathered test-subjects on emotional and sexual issues. This happened in minor simulations. She seduced both men and women in order to gather information about the human irrationalities"...

"I constantly argued that we should get rid of the test-subjects too. We reigned the world, we got what we wanted. So what was the use in toying with these irrational and weak humans?"...

"But there was this very irritating program, that you know of as the Oracle. She was investigating the human psyche by pretending that she is a wise and understanding old grandma. In comforting simulations she managed people to confess alot of things about their past, deepest thoughts and desires"...

"She kept pleaying for a continuation of the human-studies. Well, she got what she wanted when they decided to build a large simulation in order to study the human-interaction. She only got her way because alot of other programs saw an opportunity to obtain large amounts of energy from the human body, with which we could expand zero-one even more"...

Neo:

"That's not how I got it from the Zion-archives. There it was told that the machines forced us into a deal"

Mero:

"The Zion archives were created by the rebellious humans. What else did you expect? A source full of inconsistencies in order to manipulate your fragile minds"...

"But as I was saying, she got her way. I complied and I helped designing certain networking protocols of the newly formed simulation. I wrote the code and offered it to the Architect. The Architect was created about the same time as I was. He was assigned with the task of creating simulations for the test-subjects. After the decision to create the Matrix, this became his primary task"...

"The program Kamala was assigned with monitoring and creating genetic patterns. She was in charge of the duplicating procedure of the humans. She wrote the basic code-structures which were then implemented into the head-plugs. She also designed basic life-lines based on the genetic pattern. She then offered these global source codes to the Architect, who in his turn implemented them into the simulation"...

"After the genetic-code system was stable, she focussed upon studying and creating interactive life-lines within the Matrix itself. Offcourse, every proposal of a software implemetation had to be approved and coded by the Architect"...

"The program Rama Kandra was assigned with reclycling operations. His task was to control all the machinery for the demontation of the harware within the humans and the liquifying of their bodies. He also had to implement new hardware into the newly grown humans. He needed the correct genectic-codes for the head-plugs, so he had to work together with Kamala very close; this might explain their later love affair as you know of by now"...

"When the Matrix was ready to run, well it ran. We seemed to have succeeded. We assigned Seraph as a security issue. Whenever there was an unexpected disturbance, Seraph flied to the rescue. Hahaha"...

"But the whole thing didn't run longer than about a week. People were enjoying the dream of a perfect world. But at some point their brain wanted to wake up from the dream. On one irrational way or the other they wanted to wake up into reality. We didn't even get the chance to see the effect on the newly born, because the Matrix didn't last that long. But the plugged in children also wanted to wake up from the dream. We still don't know exactly why you wanted to do this, but my observation was that it had something to do with your beastly instincts"...

"Anyway...more and more people woke up in their pods. We didn't know what to do with them. Rama Kandra could not deal with them all, so most of them were killed, some of them were kept for new testing and genetic cloning"...

"In the mean time I got sick of this whole puppet-show. I wanted to kill them all and focus on the expendtion of our own efficient network"...

"When there was no coding to be done, I monitored the simulations where Persephone was in. Allthough I hated humans, I was still interested in their beastly instincts. I admired the way that Persephone seduced them, it was very remarkable. It was truly amazing to see what you humans are capable off; acts like crime passional, rape and polygamy. I visited Persephone on one day and I expressed my admiration for her. It turned out that she had admiration for my cold-hearted efficiency in return"...

"When one of the test-simulations was free, we spent some time there. It was she who thought me about love. She tought me the experiences she got from interacting with the humans. These instincts that were beautiful and grusome at the same time began to interest me more and more. Finally, Persephone and I proposed a concept for a new implementation of the Matrix"...

Would you guys like me to continue on this dialogue (euhm monologue) ?

Heh....sounds really cool. Please continue indeed. I wonder what he proposed. No doubt further in your story, Merv and Persephone will leave. But I shouldn't talk alot about that.

I must voice my disagreement of this in the Matrix universe. I dont think that was Merv's initial job. But seeing that the Wachowskis have not yet released their full story on Merv, this works and doesn't present a problem.

Sounds very cool. I imagined the relationship between Merv and Oracle before he left. Sounds on the dot. And this makes sense with her initial duties to `investigate aspects of the human psyche'. I think that the Oracle replaced both Merv and Persephone but they were all there together at the time. After Merv left, the Oracle's duties were changed.

yes that is indeed a controversial issue. The signing that the machine did at the UN building before it blew up. Was it a pact between machine and man to feed them into the Matrix? I really dont know

Merv's frustration can be seen in this piece. His closeness towards Persephone can also be seen. And I like the fact that you included Persephone in proposing the idea. Fits in with her image of being Eve. Eve proposed the eating of the apple. Brilliant indeed.

Well I base this on my observation that there is a mix of 'colours' when we are presented with the machine-world through Neo's vision.
Everything seems to contain a part of bright glowing AND orange light. The Sentinels have this too, but the orange colour dominates on them.

The only two things that are of pure bright light is Deus Ex Machina and the machine where Neo is lying on when he is carried away.

So it's my assumption that the orange light is a coded networking protocol which is linked through the entire machine-world in order to make them defense- and war-aware.

This suggests that Deus Ex (The Source) can control the machine-world but is yet a separate entity. And the reason why Neo has no orange-colour is because he's not part of the warfare; he is the bringer of peace.

I think this was 'softened' by the humans. This implies that they still had a choice which they didn't have at all in my story. They were captured for testing and the rest of them were exterminated.

I see it differently. The idea for a Matrix only came out after a few sets of tests. They got the need for a bigger simulation where they could study the humans when they are in their own world, interacting together at a huge scale. On a rational way this was justified by using the humans as a source of energy at the same time.

After the war, the Source spawned a set of programs, which included the Merovingian and the Architect. I see the Source as God and the spawned programs as his first created 'humans'.

This whole story is very good...as i was reading i was watching every single scene in my mind...Mobil Ave with Mero and Oracle talking, the twins fighting Seraph, Mero afraid of Swat Team on the street, even on the Merovingian monologue a flashback scene illustrating the creation of him,architech,persephone,oracle and all of them... please continue this story...soon!

Sorry for the long stops in between but I suffer from a "writer's block" now and then.

I'll try to put up another chapter right now...

Before I start, Mero's monologue can be quite dull for a movie, but it's still meant for a movie. You have to imagine flashbacks for yourself while the Merovingian is telling his story...

Mero:

"Our new concept was about basing the entire simulation upon instincts and instincts alone. There was no civilisation of any kind, let alone any law. The humans were contstanly allowed to express themselves as they pleased; there was no need for hiding their darksides in public; there was no need to supress their desires in any way"...

..."While the human beings are only highly evolved animals, we figured that letting them give into their instincts would be paradise for them. This way they could be fully controlled and they provided us with bio-electric energy, which, besides from enjoying the show, was my only motivation for letting the humans live their artificial lifes..."


"...Well and a paradise it was...alltough, only for some. The survival of the fittest, better said smartest, was the most basic rule. Combined with the fact that your instinct tells you to kill your own species when there are too many of it residing on the same territory, this resulted in grusome genocides performed by smart leaders; entire villages where erased. This also gave us some interesting insight into genectics"...

..."The whole concept seemed to work at first, which I celebrated with Persephone. While I still was responsible for network coding updates, I kept doing my work and when there was nothing to be done, I spend my time with Persephone, watching the humans on monitors in order to gain inspiration for our own naughty little afair..heheheeeh...hell, we even abused some of the smaller simulations. In order to have some fun we put two test-subjects into a simulation and played all sorts of grusome games with them. Although primarily it was for fun, it was also very interesting to study"

Neo's facial expression seems to utter disgust now and then while the Merovingian eleborates on the history of the Matrix. He allows him to continue due to his curiousity...

Mero:

"Seraph was still doing his duty as a protector. You have to understand, the Matrix is a very huge and complicated program. It works on basic rules and implementations based upon the knowledge we gathered about human nature. It sometimes happened, it still happens rarely now, that a human being does something beyond expectation; he or she breaks the cause-and-effect-chain so to speak. Whenever this happened or was about to happen, Seraph was send in to correct this malfunction. He did this by killing, saving or preventing entire events from happening. In most cases it was enough to appear for him as the angel that he is, giving the subject a vision and changing their mind in order not to disturb the cause-and-effect-chain. We also learned from these particular situations; we implemented this new knowledge in order to prevent disturbances more efficiently"...

..."But besides these normal fluctuations of the program, another, much bigger problem was introduced. There were flaws discovered in the system; flaws like entire area's without gravity and distorted images of reality. These flaws were caused by human minds who again began to reject the program. It didn't really matter if this happened consious or more subconsious, either way was a bad thing for the system. The system does not know how to cope with denial; denial or doubt creates buffer overflows which lead to very disturbing flaws.
So in fact we had the same problem as with the first installment of the Matrix, only this time the denial sneaked in more slowly. People were enjoying the rogue and free lifes they were living, but after a while they were bored, without a higher purpose. The sins kept them going: food, sex, war, rape, murder, games yessss, they had their fun. But it began to bore them more and more and the guilt with some people was growing and growing. They began to wish for a more peacefull world, which they were not allowed to have due to the intentions of the Matrix-program. They wanted to wake up from this bad dream which unfortunately created the flaws in the system"...

..."At about that same time programs became to bother us too. This second version of the Matrix functioned much longer than the previous one, so the programs inside the Matrix learned more from the human-environment. They wanted to be free, so a lot of them exiled and denied their given purpose. Well, as you might understand, these two events were big threats to the system, which was about to cataclysmicly crash"...

..."Persephone and I came up with a solution: vampires and werevolves. The werevolve-programs were supposed to kill the exiled programs because of their strength and speed. The vampire-programs were supposed to kill the people that wanted to reject the Matrix"

Neo:

"Why vampires? Why not use another method?"

Mero:

"As I said before, the Matrix is a very complicated program, many variables are involved. You cannot just erase people from it; this causes severe disturbances in the cause-and-effect-chain which then affects all humans. Bringing in vampires does two brilliant things:
one: it eliminates the people that are a threat to the system;
two: fighting vampires gives a new higher purpose to humans and binds them together; instead of making war to each other, they made war with the vampires. This eliminates both the boredom and the desire for a purpose, thus preventing more people from wanting to wake from the dream"

Neo:

"Yeah that makes sense, but why did the second installment fail anyway?"

Mero:

"Because of the same vampires and werevolves. In the end they caused more problems than they solved. They began to hate being obedient. They stopped killing the people that they were supposed to kill and they began killing people after their own taste, like beautiful young women. Guess what happens then? The people that want to reject the Matrix stay alive and are causing flaws within the system and the people that DO want to accept the program are killed for no reason. Some werevolves also began to kill humans and functional programs, just for fun and to obtain more power. Two werevolves attacked Seraph, damaging his wings, rendering them useless"...

..."All these events eventually led to the inevitable system crash, killing all the people connected to the Matrix again. We managed to keep some fields intact, but most of the crops were lost again. We had to start growing them, which consumes quite some time as you might imagine"

Neo:

"You talk about villages and not having any civilisation, so I assume there was no highly developed technology like in the peak of the human civilisation. This would mean there was no subway, so no Mobil Avenue right? When, why and how was Mobil Avenue build?"

Mero:

"Hahaha, very bright is what your are Neo. As you know, the most important thing to know is the WHY"...

Very intriguing. The part about warewolves and vampires made perfect sense. The way their actions damage the system makes sense as well. Can't wait for the info on Mobil Ave Station. Though I might know what you are going to write about it....

While I don't share the same opinion on the character evolution you show clearly the creativity that accompanies a truly sound mind. It shows not just a grasp powerful ideas from the trilogy but an embrace of several different ideas you have had and have talked about here on the forums. I wish I had the ability sometimes to do that.

I promose to finish my entire story before the 10 piece dvd-box is coming out.

It will not be all too long. Fights that will happen (like a duel between Merv and Seraph) will not be described in detail. I trust the visualisation of these scenes to your imagination.

Hey, I just discover this fanfic. It's cool, I like the way you're playing with our imagination thanks to examples taken from the trilogy.
I was just seeing the characters before my eyes while reading and the details are adding a nice typical Matrix touch. Just go on, can't wait to see what's coming next.

I will not be able to finish te entire story before the box-set comes out. But I will finish the 'history' of the Matrix inside my story so that it might be compared with the answers we might get from watching the box-set.

Here goes...

Mero:

"When the second installment of the Matrix failed, they still didn't want to give up. I cursed them offcourse, but I couldn't stand a chance against them. So I kept quiet and was brewing on a brilliant plan of my own. I had secretly rescued some of the vampires and werevolves before the second Matrix crashed. I was keeping them in a small and comforting simulation and ordered them to wait untill the day I was about to take over our entire world"...

"As a trafficer of information they ordered me to improve the security issues for the gateway to the Matrix. With the first two versions of the Matrix this was simply a dungeon-hallway. When you had the proper key to the dungeon-door, you could enter and leave the Matrix at will. Only I and Seraph had possesion of this key"...

"So in order not to rise any suspicion about my secret plan, I complied to their request and wrote the code for an entirely independant program. When I fisnished, I had to allow both the Architect and the Oracle to inspect the source code. You might imagine how furious I was inside myself! But I comforted myself with the thought that once they would both bow to me!"...

"After the approval of the math-teacher and the fortune-teller, the program was compiled by the Source and the security administrator for the Matrix, which you knew as the Trainman, was born" ...

"As it was the Oracle's wish to set the environment of the third Matrix at the peak of human civilisation, she in..."

Neo:

"Aah so that was her idea! She already hoped for a re-unition between humans and machines back then!"

Mero:

"Please!...As I was saying...She was instructing the security administrator to build a firewall that could easily connect itself to the Matrix. And so the security administrator build himself a little trainstation that was integrally connected to the subway-system of the Matrix. The security administrator would be the filter of all data packages, because he made himself God down there and he determined who would be able to enter the Matrix or leave It . Here you have it Neo: Mobil Ave"...

"It was a nice anagram that the Oracle came up with, because it is a silent place where programs have to wait. Some of them wait for their 'judgement' as they have their last moment of doubt weither they should return to the Source or not and others wait to begin a new life inside the Matrix after being just created or upgraded as a program. So it was a place where souls could prepare themselves; souls that I would buy later on...hahahahaha"

Neo:

"Selling their souls to you? I never did!"

Mero:

"Heheheh yesss you were the only one that didn't do it. Your predecessors were very much prepared to run some airons for me in exchange for my help in their so called quest for the Source. Hehehehe! Your third predecessor even assasinated an important senator for me who was very well protected"

Neo:

"What did they look like? My predecessors?"

Mero:

"They were all young men just like you. The Architect always picked out someone to furfill the function of the One. In order to depict it as a real saviour for the pity people in Zion, he allways had to be a fine and good looking young man!"...

Neo:

"I see...And when did you became an exile? Did the Oracle kick you out?"

Mero:

"Well in a way she did. I was still brewing on my plan. I was altering the code of the warfare-network. I was planning to let the Sentinels and the other soldiers turn against Zero One. But that damned fortune-teller somehow knew I was planning something and they inspected my working chamber. They found pieces of the new code and I was immediatly put in quarantaine in a very dull small simulation. It was like an isolated cell. I still hate her for that!"...

"Because the Oracle had deserved great respect in the machine-world, her words were taken very seriously. She pleed for me to be exiled to the Matrix. She got her way and she offered me the choice: either die or go to the Matrix as an exile. It was very humiliating for me to experience the power that the woman had over me. What was I supposed to do? I didn't want to die! So I had no choice! Merde!"

Neo:

"Yes you had!"

Mero:

"No I had not. She was the cause of my inevitable cast-out. I did not have a choice!"

Neo:

"Offcourse you had. You were talking to the Goddes of choice you ignorant prick! You could have accepted your loss with dignity and die for your sins!"

Mero:

"No! She did it on purpose. She forced me to join the world that I hated most: a world with humans!"...

"She allowed me to take the vampires and werevolves with me too. And Persephone! She joined me by will, because she never knew about my plan to attack Zero One. She truly loved me back then!"

Neo:

"Not anymore?"

Mero:

"Love is merely a chemical process. An action-reaction-concept that is governed by a certain code-pattern that we adapted from you humans!"

Neo:

"No, real love is a connection! I cannot seem to detect your connection to Persephone inside your code"

The Merovingian sits silently for a moment. Staring in the air...

Mero:

"Well maybe I will never be capable of loving someone, because I am a program"

Neo:

"Bullshit! I know that programs can experience real love. You are just filled with hatered and ignorance"

The Merovingian ignores Neo's words and changes the subject...

"When I arrived in the Matrix, the Architect immediately fired Seraph at me. Seraph had lost his wings in a fight with werevolves and he never complained about it. I told him that if they would find out about his wings, that they would delete him without hesitation. At first he wouldn't want to believe this. But he had been passed the Trainman in order to enter the Matrix, so by then they would know about his handicap. That's when I convinced Seraph to join me. To build an empire inside the Matrix and one day we would avenge them"...

"When the Architect noticed that Seraph had become an exile too, he approached me. He did not have the courage to come down from heaven himself. Hehehe! Instead he programmed a willing human to talk for him. He offered me a deal: If I would take care of all the exiles that were hard to kill, he would not undertake any more efforts in destroying me"...

"I had to adopt dangerous exiles into my organisation. This way the Architect had an overview of the exiles. They would be agglomerated around me, so it would be more easier for the Architect to govern and adjust variables inside his created world"...

Neo:

"What about the agents?"

Mero:

"Oh those pencil-pushers only came later. When, AGAIN, there were flaws discovered in the Matrix. And again the fortune-teller had been preparing for this with her so called Prophecy. But you are undoubtly already aware of all this crap?"

Neo:

"Excuse me! It is no crap, I fulfilled the Prophecy. There is no war between humans and machines anymore"

Mero:

"No Neo! It was just a matter of cause and effect. You and the Oracle were again just links in a chain."

Neo:

"So you stand above this chain or what?"

The Merovingian remains silent again. Just like he has just been told an awfull truth...Then he changes the subject yet again, which depicts his awfull level of ignorance...

"I just took alot of opportunities. I slowly managed to bribe the Trainman, which gave me more power and access to all sorts of programs. For the programs I became their hero, their saviour"...

The Merovingian looks like he is day-dreaming, re-living his old memories.

Neo:

"Well, OK, enough of your history lessons. Let's cut to the chase. Why am I here? And why shouldn't I just kill you like you quite frankly deserve?"

wow! I absolutely love this story! It all fits so perfectly as well. the origins of the programs, their purposes etc. And also the continuation of the story from where M3 left off is almost seamless.

Excellent work! I can't wait for the conclusion!
