White Rabbit/Grace Slick

There are undoubtedly innumerable metaphors, references and wordplays in the Matrix movies, although most of them implanted intentionally, some might be incidentally.
I have recently stumbled upon one of those references, which I think to be only a coincidence.
Many of you may be familiar with the song "WHITE RABBIT" by the Jefferson Airplane from the album Surrealistic Pillow released 1967.Although the song is released in the 2nd Jefferson Airplane Album, it was written by "Grace Slick", originally performed with The Great Society, her previous band.
Grace Slick replaced the lead singer Signe Anderson and performed with the Airplane for the first time during Jefferson Airplane's public debut at "The Matrix".
"The Matrix" , San Francisco’s first folk night club, opened at 3138 Fillmore in the Marina District.
Grace Slick's trance-like monotone seems to be inspired by having just read - Lewis Carroll: The Complete Illustrated Works: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found here.
Here is the lyric for "White Rabbit":

One pill makes you larger
And one pill makes you small,
And the ones that mother gives you
Don't do anything at all.
Go ask Alice
When she's ten feet tall.
And if you go chasing rabbits
And you know you're going to fall,
Tell 'em a hookah smoking caterpillar
Has given you the call.
Call Alice
When she was just small.
When the men on the chessboard
Get up and tell you where to go
And you've just had some kind of mushroom
And your mind is moving low.
Go ask Alice
I think she'll know.
When logic and proportion
Have fallen sloppy dead,
And the White Knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen's "off with her head!"
Remember what the dormouse said:
"Feed your head. Feed your head. Feed your head"

I think the lyric speaks for itself, but if you take a "literal" approach, you will certainly find enough allusive references within the movie like "Pill" and "Call" and....

You could safely bypass this paragraph...

Due to the immensity of Matrix phenomenon which had spawned innumerable websites, forums, boards, essays, etc. I have never been able to read through one of them completely -one of he worst excuses I have ever delivered, sorry-, and I decided to cherish the movies by themselves and occasionally read materials regarding niceties of the movies. At least this approach suited me best, although I have always appreciated the devotion and the involvement -both supporting or contradicting- shown toward the subject.

This is my first post regarding the movies, and in my opinion there are still many basic subjects about these movies which have not been fairly covered. Also in my opinion the majority of posts are pure "speculation" about the third installment, which by the time of its release will be an end to all these speculation, nevertheless the delight in all those theories.

I will appreciate any opinion about my post and its relevance toward the movies.

In case of reproducing this subject anywhere else, You are kindly asked to provide the link to this message.

Confusion will be my Epitaph

I suspect a misunderstanding here........

I wanted to express my appreciation, which I did.
I also would like to know if you have heard this "particular" song before, which I consider not exactly relevant to my post, but interesting to me.

Now would you please answer your question for me, and also mine if possible? Rolling Eyes

What part of my post made you use the Evil or Very Mad ?????

This made three q`s, hope it`s not that annoying.......

White Rabbit has been a favourite of mine for many years - I was always dissapointed at how short a track it is.

And it did come to mind the first time I watched the matrix, but thought little of it at the time.

That was before I came across sites like this and the amount of hidden references in the films.

I didn't know about "The Matrix" venue, which I found very interesting.

@marl64

I wasn`t asking anybody in particular, so your response is welcome.

No doubt about the vastness of hidden references in these movies, which sometimes seems to be more trivial than related to plot points, on the other hand unraveling those references "actually" helps understanding the plot better, not mentioning the delight in challenging the puzzles of the Pop mythology, which at least was a determinant in shaping my ideology.

Also I personally tend to overvalue the "random coincidence of events" thesis but these coincidences are sometimes really staggering -at least to a poor human mind like mine whose been fed many overdoses of superstition even at the sub-conscious level!!!-.
But performing the "White Rabbits" in "The Matrix" for the first time, now that reminds me of the prelude to Magnolia.A must see movie -in my opinion, which is highly subjected to change although not frequently!!!-.

@Another Smith

You`re welcome, no need for any apology, I should have completed the phrase "pretty dumb of me", which I didn`t.

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Still you didn`t respond to my question, Have you heard the song?

@Agent Smith

Grace Slick.......Legendary for her wild lifestyle, she freely admits to having little memory of the 1960s, and is still considered to be one of the most liberated and independant women in the World today.

Funny, only in the sense of being funny, coincidence, if this will ever come true in revelutions.......

P.S. I`m not in the favor of The Oracle being the Mother

I tend to agree with you, I don't think that the Oracle is the Mother she may be intuitive but I have a feeling that we were being led up the proverbial "Garden Path" with this one...Even the Architects response when Neo said "The Oracle" spoke volumes to me, when The Architect said "Pllleeeaasse" it seemed as if Neo had insulted the Archs intelligence..

I think I just discovered the real truth about the matrix. In the movie "Fear and loathing in Las Vegas", the main character has a flashback saying something like "It was the high of the great LSD wave, I found myself in a place called the matrix.". He is talking about the club in San Francisco.

So the matrix plot is really made by a bunch of hippies sitting in a club called The Matrix, taking a lot of acid. When revolution ends, the main characters wake up from a LSD trip inside this club, after being connected on a higher level and dreaming they were characters in a future world. They would use every religion, theory and idea there was.

This is why there is no Microsoft, etc. They just imagined the future.

Dear emp,

Since you have revealed the plot of Revolutions and ruined everything, I recommend you edit your reply and include the sign "Spoiler" in large font and psychedelic colors.

By the way, have you been contacted by W brothers about your sinister intentions?

I'd noticed this myself while reading a bio of Grace Slick..

And it occured to me to phrase it a bit differently:

Neo learns about the Matrix at a club he got to by following the white rabbit.

Grace wrote a song about a white rabbit while at a club called the Matrix.

[That's close enough for gov't work; I had it better stated when I read the bio, but I've forgotten some of the details.]
