Which comic? The one that was released in 1999 but was recalled and destroyed by Warner Bros or the collection of Web Comics released last October?

How would YOU be able to tell the difference between the dream world...and the real world?

the matrix is based on a lot of things...including manga and anime...

also "the magus" novel
possibly dark city the film...
other influences were all the religous stuff in the symbolism thread

the wachowski's are lovers of many different strange sub cultures which are only startig to be taken into the mainstream in the western world

i suppose as these influences creep in more and more then peoples understanding and appreciation of the matrix will become more apparent

Nope. The W. Bros. used to write for different comic publishers and took ideas for the Matrix from comics and anime, but an actual Matrix comic/anime didn't exist until the movie was released in '99. There are numerous threads out there that talk about which movies/anime the Matrix is influenced by, but you'll have to do some searching. Cool

Anomaly,

My post is not is reference to yours. We must have been posting at the same time.

I have a Matrix Comic - I only managed to get hold of it recently. It cost me £16.99, by Titan Books. ISBN 1-84023-806-2. U.K
It was printed in 2003 & it is of excellent quality, I have posted a link here so you can get a look at the cover.

Do any of you think that the Matrix was taken from anime? One of my friends thinks so, but I was wondering on your oppinions.

TRUE! --nervous --very, very dreadfully nervous I had been and am; but why will you say that I am mad?

Ghost In The Shell was definately an influence. There are of course the mini-mechs in Zion too. (Patlabor involves large robots used by the police force and it is also done by mamoru oshii - director of ghost in the shell) It is also worth noting that Mamoru Oshii makes references to Christianity in his films too.

If you look at the little featurette on the Animatrix DVD it says tons about how much the matrix is based on anime. The wachowskis are particularly fond of Ninja Scroll it seems.... Smile

Hmmm...I wonder if they are going to sue them. This isn't the first time something was stolen from Anime. The Lion King was stolen, too, and Disney got their pants sued off too. I personally think they should. If it's very similar, it's quite possible that a few names might have been changed, the kind of material that they were switched, and then, VUALA! That also might explain why Matrix 2 and 3 were so crappy (but oh so fun to mock)

Oh no! It's not that similar. We are talking about similarity in terms of the fact that they both have similar science fiction ideas and similar ways of portraying action. The stories in anime and the story of the matrix are both very different! No ones gonna want to sue - believe me!

Good, good! I didn't want to believe it, but that would explain for cruddy 2 and 3. But I'm glad, I wouldn't want them to rip off anime/manga, it's happened too much.

Haven't you heard about how Sophia Stewart is accusing The Wachowski brothers et al of stealing her story?

If it's true, it could actually explain why the story-line in the first film was so well developed...[/img]

of course we have heard.. there's an entire section on this forum devoted to that story...

personally i thought the story was more developed in the sequels.

i have to say, the Sophia Stewart thing is getting ridiculous.. i can't believe she now says Terminator was stolen from her too.

If anyone reckons they have some legitimate NEW news about Sophia Stewart, this seems to be the most sensible thread to talk about her for a while.

matrix-explained.com...

(It's probably the only one not containing some rantings by Agent Zero saying that she plagurised from the Bible)

What we really want is a copy of her 'third eye' script. So far the only thing we've seen was a rather naff thing which actually has the name Zeniba as the author. Seems pretty dodgy and it isn't even a script!

It seems really unlikely. From what I heard, the W. Brothers were working on the script for a long, LONG time, even when they were still carpenters. So somehow I don't think that she is very real. There might be some similarities, but that's bound to happen. With so many people and so many creative ideas, there are going to be a few ones that people both think up. Coincidences DO happen.

Thank you! It's nice to be back (and nice to know that I was missed. ^_^)
I will do that, it sounds like a fun place to be for super-liberals with an oppinion!
