Hey,
I was just wondering, who were the agents before Jones, Smith and Brown? Even though in my opinion, these guys look quite skimpy compared to the new and buffed up Johnson, Jackson and Thompson my guess is that Jones, Smith and Brown were probably upgrades as well. I've just added some pictures below for comparison:

I think I remember in a couple of the episodes in the Animatrix that we saw some Agents.
One episode was when 3 agents were chasing Trinity down a train
The other is when an agent comes to check out the glitch in the mansion and clears the whole place up. I don't know if they were Jones, Smith and Brown or even the agents before them. But I don't have a screenshot.

and BTW, Jones and Brown WERE ABSOLUTELY NOT IN RELOADED!

Offcourse there were other agents before Smith, Jones and Brown. Who they were? No one knows! Does it even matter?

The agents in Animatrix look totally different.
Animatrix is at it's own totally different I think.
Not all animations were 100% approved by the WB-brothers if I am correct?

I don't like the Animatrix much anyway. I like the movies much better.

If the matrix reloads, and at each "reloading" EVERYTHING starts from the begining, then the Agents at the begining get upgraded before the END.

Jones e.t.c.

--> Johnson (Reload)

Jones e.tc.

--> Johnson (the matrix reloads yet again)

What exactly is loaded?

I'm pretty sure that when the Matrix reloads, the newer upgrades are included, not the older ones. The Architect, when referring to the destruction of Zion claimed that the machines have gotten "exceedingly efficient at it" over time. I'd assume that if there is change and progress outside the Matrix, then there would be no reason to lock the conditions inside. Though the Architect does seem to have accepted the balance that was in place (pre-revolutions), he doesn't appear to like it, there is still a lot of danger involved, logically he would try to improve the methods of control within the system.
Although I will admit that it may be possible the machines where completely satisfied with the situation, I feel that there is change (one good example: if there is a glitch somewhere on the Matrix (as in one of the Animatrix episodes), would it be reloaded? It is an iteresting discussion though...
Although a lot would probably be reloaded (the clock would probably be set back 100 years or so), improvements to the system are saved to help make the overall process smoother.

The matrix reloads, and everything reloads with it.
