The meaning of blue and red clothes in Zion

DUDE, I HAVE THIS LITTLE THEORY WITH BLUE AND RED......

In zion there are alot of people in certain colors, Morpheus wears red, Ghost weres blue, Counciler haaman wears blue, Niobe wears red, etc........ I belive that the $ell outs are ones in blue, i also think they are machines, and the ones in red are the good, but half human and half machine, the others are just real humans........i think the ultimate betrayle is the blue dudes killing everyone, or keeping something from everyone, like the ones predecessors, but if the color thing is true which is probably not, cypher would have been a goodguy(he also wears red). maybe he was, just somehow the machines altered his mind.... or it only applies to reloaded and revolutions....welp tell me what u think.... I know!

Red + Green + Blue = White.

Red Herring + Green Matrix Code + Bluescreen = The Architect.

I bet there aren't rainbows in the matrix.

The colors could be a political reference to the liberal-conservative division in America, with "red" America being the 34 states that voted for Bush and "blue" being the Gore states: the latter tend to be coastal, secular, and internationally minded, the former tend to be more patriotic and religious and indifferent to the opinions of France.

If the "blues" are the traitors mentioned earlier, that would mean the W Brothers are implying that the liberal left-wing today is not to be trusted. The conservative "reds" are willing to shed their blood in defense of freedom and the primacy of the individual over the group, but the blues will appease an opponent.

Colours were very important in the films, they were used in subtle and sly ways.

For example,

The interior of the neb contained no green except the monitors showing the matrix (anything else green you find there is accidental). The wiring in the Neb was Blue and Red to mimmic life. Representing Arteries and Veins. The neb itself is designed to look organic.

I haven't heard an official explanation of the colours in Zion, apart from the obvious blue tint to make the difference apparant for audiences.

Also I don't know if the characters were aware of the difference. Was the colour diffference for our benefit or was the matrix really green?

If it was (really green), people stuck in the Matrix would definately not see the tint - they would have no other frame of reference to compare it to.

I have often wondered if people being unplugged wake up, look around and think, "Hey this place is a lot less green than I'm used to".

Though in actual fact, they would probably see "The real world" as tinted slightly purple, since they would be used to the green as a base colour.

So my conclusion to all of this is that IF the characters were aware of the greeness of the matrix, a large number of them would probably choose not to wear it. Anti Matrix ~= Anti Green.

SIDENOTE:

I've just seen a review of the Reloaded DVD which included the same old criticism as the matrix;

"...it is in the transfer's often muted, sickly green colour reproduction - but we suspect this has more to do with the Wachowski's stylised cinematography than anything else".

Poor ignorant fools, slaves to the system the lot of 'em Wink

Not to mention "... And even the DVD was straight out of the box, there was alot of problems with the playback. In several scenes the action seemed to almost go into slow motion, and sometimes you could see the bullets... "

I belive that color denotes rank. Red is a ship captain, grey/white is your "soldiers", I dont remember Links..., complicated robes and such denote importance. (Not counting religious garb, like the monk we see.)

there are aparent uniforms in zion

ship captains wear red (niobe in red)

ship crew wear blue (ghost and sparks in blue)

the guys that go to the neb to tell morpheus to see the comander have a uniform, kinda like officers or something

that is not to say that you can't wear whatever you want (or whatever you have) some crew members do not wear the blue shirt that others wear, they wear some second hand crap that is usually a very dirty white or grey

council members don't really have a uniform

they don't wear tinted shades, we can see the world in a blue, red, yellow whatever tint

I always thought those in red were ship captains(Niobe, Morpheus, Sorren, Ballard) those in blue are subordinates(Ghost, Bane.....)

Red = passion, passion for the truth as well
Blue = Knowledge, seeker of knowledge or disseminator of knowledge.

Maybe? The characters roles do, mostly, fit into these ideas.

In orthodox christian icons red in blue has meaning. Mary is portrayed wearing red over blue and is shown with the baby Jesus in gold. Christ is shown on his own wearing blue over red. Red means divinity and Blue means humanity. Mary is shown as outwardly divine but inside she is only human. Jesus is shown as outwardly human but inside he is divine because he is God. Would that apply to the movies?
