I really like this one, pretty interesting and dark. I enjoy them all as a matter of fact. The most important ones though are the first 4 stories.

Final flight of the Osirs was the bet one, but i thought the two that helped explain the reason for the machine takeover and how the whole matirx began gave the clarafacation i needed for the confussing plot of the three movies

my favorite is FFoO, but in Kids story i was wondering if there is any significance, when he puts

Quote:

Am I alone?

Alone indirectly means 'The One'

Alone split it up in two 'Al' and 'one'

'One' stays the same

'Al' if you changed it around to 'La' is the french for the.

equaling: The One

There for a double meaning with 'Am i Alone?'

1)Am i alone?= Am i on my own?
2)Am i alone?= Am i the one?

My theorey would also be backed the replied shown on Kid's Storey

I think Second Renaissance 1 & 2 is what EVERY Matrix fan needs to see. It tells the whole story about what happened during the Humans v. Machines War and how we became slaves and put into the matrix. I felt sorry for both humans and machines...

But the only ones that really tie into the matrix Trilogy is the first 4 shorts. Fial Flight, Second Renaissance 1 & 2, and Kid's Story.

But i HATED Matriculated... what was the point in that one? Screwy Thumbdown

Matriculated was actually my favorite as far as the shorts went. I dunno why it is so hard to get, they free the machine giving it the choice to help them or stay with it's bretheren. The idea of human's freeing machine's from their own kind of matrix was fascinating to me. Turned the whole film idea on it's head. But what do I know Smile

Matriculated to me was the 'we need another short movie, can you think of owt?' movie and we ended up with a short movie which didnt fit with the triology or any of the the other animatrix movies

I agree with Dee. Some wasn't really necessary (actually the only ones that really tie into the Trilogy is Final Flight of the Osiris, Second Renaissance 1 & 2, and Kid's Story) but Matriculated was just way too dumb and made no sense at all. Yeah, the machine gets plugged into the matrix by gthe humans, then the other machines come and kill them all? Right...?

Some other ones that most don't like are World Record, Detective's Story, and Beyond but those make a hell of a lot more sense than Matriculated. But yeah... just seems they put in Matriculated just to fill in that spot for a short and they couldn't think of anything else... Screwy Nono

No i have to say i agree with hexediter, even though the short movie had no colleration with the trilogy. the whole basess was reveresed. the movie is based on machines giving chioce to the humans blah blah blah etc. But in matriculted it is the humans who now give the choice. it is quite fascinating.

I think all episodes are good. It's so great that they made the Animatrix, since it provided us with the backstory to the whole thing and explored the Matrix even further. Fantastic. My list goes like this.

1 Kids story

2 Second renaissance 1-2

3 Final flight of the Osiris

4 Detective story

5 Program

6 World record

7 Beyond

8 Matriculated

I truly enjoyed the scene in Beyond where the kids are jumping, coming nose-close to the ground, only to pull away from it. The magic lies in its subtlety.

Yeah, Beyond is awesome, I liked how the kids were able to do some extrordinary things and didn't know how or why they were able to do it. Then the agents come and fix the bug/glitch and they're disappointed that they can't do their 'tricks" anymore... I thought it was really interesting and cute.

I liked Detective's Story... It just had me interested the whole way through.
Final Flight of the Osiris was graphically amazing and the storyline wasn't half bad either Smile
I really didn't like Matriculated... Probably because I didn't understand it...

I DEFINATELY agree Megtrix, I still don't understand Matriculated fully. I get it that the humans try to plug the machine into the matrix so that it'll go to their side... but what happens at the end? The sentinels come and kill everyone but the machine saves the girl (I guess the machine has feelings for her or something...). THEN while plugged in, they both just disappear.... I didn't get it. What was the point?

They should've thought of something more connected to the Trilogy, I guess that's why we need an Animatrix 2 with more stories! I'd LOVE to see that!

This is something I thought of before but my thread only got one response heh.

The melody playing in the beginning and end of Beyond was used in japan before (it is still used in some places but the sound dudes had a hard time finding a street crossing that still played it) to help blind people across the street.

I think the tune was used because the people crossing the street in Beyond are blind in a way, blind from the truth about their lives. Does this sound completely ridiculous?

It is one of the few, kind of cool things I have thought of, and I don't think I've heard it mentioned before.

No, I don't find that strange at all. I don't think it's mere coincidence, the Wachowski Bros. really do their research and that's really awesome that you figured that out!

I still think this is turd but i believe that is purely because i dont understand it. Im fine up to the point when the machine is jacked in. At first i thought 'woah this is a realy cool idea' but then i spent the last part of the film staring at pretty colours and getting the strong feeling i missed something. I think this is common for most of us.
I realise that they are teaching the ai a lesson but i wanna know how the hell they are doing it. Can someone who understands it go though it step by step and finaly get this cleared up?

oh and can i add that it isnt my favourate but i love the look of the agents in world record.

basically, in matriculated, the black centipede thing represents the machine world control over that particuliar machine. While being jacked in to a construct that the humans desinged, they free the machine from it's control (the black centipede) and where it goes from their is a choice the machine makes itself (of course the humans are creating conditions to encourage the choice to help them). You see the machine control try to recapture the "freed" machine a.i. The machine at this point becomes aware, probably for the first time, that it is not free, and that it's controler does not want it to be free. You see the machine drown in the machine control, reaching for help to get out. Then all the pretty colors, and then the girl comes and shows the machine the "other way" so to speak. At the end, the machine jacks in with the girl to try to comunicate with her one last time, she screams and fades out, which to me kind of means she died right there. This leaves us with the end scene of a free'd machine all alone in the world of the real.
