Okie dokie, here's the whole d.l. about deja vus:

When you stop a movie (which is kinda like what our lives are in the matrix) and push play again, you will notice that the movie is rewound a bit, this explains the kind of instant deja vu Neo has in the first Matrix.

But, for a deja vu that has happened some time ago, the machines simply slip some random memory into your brain which gives them the time to change whatever they want, an we would never know the difference...

my only question about them though, is why doesn't everyone have deja vus when something is changed?

they probably do...the only thing is that it is the people who reject the matrix that take it for more than face value

I doubt they NEED to change things very often. Only when they have problems with rebels broadcasting into the matrix. Even if someone not yet unplugged DID see a deja vu they would simply shrug it off like Neo did. Do remember that when Neo saw the two cats he was unplugged. Originally even the unplugged wouldn't think anything of it. It is only after a number of experiences that they will begin to notice the connection between the deja vus and the encounters with agents.

Since not yet unplugged persons generally don't encounter the agents they are not going to think that deja vu has anything to do with a computer environment. Simply the mind playing tricks on itself as we all know the mind is apt to do.

It's a good question, why doesn't everyone experience deja vu at the same time? If the Matrix is stopped, re-written and started again.

Unless it's not stopped, the code being re-written might cause a kinda ripple effect, people further from it are less effected, maybe caused by the new code 'knocking out' the old code?

I think the Bros. didn't think enough about this.

It's not the entire code being changed. Only part of it is changed. Only in the last movie near the end is there a ripple due to a large amount being changed at once.

In the first movie the only tell-tale sign of a change to the matrix was one cat doing the same thing twice. That is something that could be dismissed by anyone, just like Neo does initially.

Online, there's a comic called goliath that talks a lot about time in the Matrix, as well as deja vu. It shows how that even though most people experience the deja vu, most ignore it or don't actually realize it. Also, time can reshift, go backwards, or restart in the Matrix, as also shown by this comic, though I'm not sure they can affect hacked people...

this kind of problem is addressed in the animatrix called "beyond"

it is the one where the kids find the so called "haunted house" where glitches in the matrix are present that causes the gravity to be messed up as well as more severe glitches such as newspapers passing straight through the ground...the problems for whatever reason are confined to a small area...when fixing the matrix we see a screen similar to neos screen in m1 with the black background...we see the "search running" style message and the "anomaly detected" "anomaly deleted" and finally "anomaly replaced"
