Why does Agent Smith want to kill Neo so bad? Neo IS the one that set him free. That is what Agent Smith wanted. He said so to Morpheus himself.

Ya thats pretty funny. Neo set him free and yet Smith wants to kill him. I guess its just because he hates everything from the beginning. He hates the Matrix, humans, Neo, everything.

That brings up another question: Why doesn't Smith realize that if he destroys Neo, he himself will be destroyed.

I don't think that smith CARES. He wants to hurt/kill Neo (and everyone close to Neo) so badly, it's become an obsession. It's kind of like Moby Dick and the White Whale.

TRUE! --nervous --very, very dreadfully nervous I had been and am; but why will you say that I am mad?

He does know that killing neo will kill him. He says in the first movie that he wants to get out, what better way to get out than to die? What better way to die thatn by killing your arch enemy and with him , destroying nearly everything else he hates so much.makes perfect sense to me.

no. Notagain He didn't even know about the connection until reloaded (or the 6 months in between). He wanted to get out of the Matrix. Read the script, it said that. www.comingsoon.net...

Duh he didn't know about the connection untill Reloaded, who said it didn't? But for a slight revision, i don't think Sith knew i would kill him, but I think he thought if he copied himself onto Neo, instead of neo being copied onto him, it would "get him out" which is what he wanted in the first place.

Another thing that's been troubling me since Reloaded came out is if Neo is just another system of control, why do the agents, including Smith, want to kill him?

Unfortunately no one can be told what The Matrix is...You have to see it for yourself.

NEO is not another system of control, the PROFFECY is the system of control. Yeah, I guess he could be part of that system, but he can do anything, so in a way, he is the system breaker. They want to kill him because he is trying to save people, and disrupt the peace. It's their job to go after people like that.

Smith is expanding ego. It has grown so large (clones of himself) he wants to control everything. If you need to be top dog, then usually you will try to edge everything out that stands in your way. Killing Neo is a natural progression of that need. Also Neo is his opposite, and shadow, and he faces Smith down with his lost bits.

what does Smith mean when he says "i must get out"?
what does he mean when he says(in Reloaded):
"I killed you, Mister Anderson, I watched you die... With a certain satisfaction, I might add, and then something happened. Something that I knew was impossible, but it happened anyway. You destroyed me, Mister Anderson. Afterward, I knew the rules, I understood what I was supposed to do but I didn't. I couldn't. I was compelled to stay, compelled to disobey. And now here I stand because of you, Mister Anderson, because of you I'm no longer an agent of the system, because of you I've changed - I'm unplugged - a new man, so to speak, like you, apparently free."

Plz explain to me the bold part. Tripleconfused

Smith will suffice

And this fits perfectly, because everyone ALWAYS hates 'people' with inflated egos! Whitelaugh I don't know if you meant it to be, but this is really quite funny.

He means, "I must get out of the Matrix." The script is really helpful. The site is:

You need a PDF reader to be able to view it, though.

In this scene, Smith, Neo's opposite, remembers becoming free. He's saying that he knew what happened when a program got deleted (which Neo did, he deleted him in the end of M1), he knew the rules, which he was supposed to follow (and thus COMPLETELY be deleted). But he chose not to because he wanted to stay to kill Neo.
