So how old are computers? Are you sure they are only 20 years old? Surely the metal is as old as the world itself?

Give me a break!

I, personally, did not start learning until after I was born. That gave me 21 years. Computers have access to just as much information as I have access to. In fact with their increased memory they have access to even more! The fact is that computers can't learn because they are not self-aware and do not have any kind of an adaptive system to make themselves self-aware. (I think some animals are self aware - call me crazy....)

yes, we live in a dreamworld,

to know the rabit hole, you must know the meaning of meditation, it can mean:

1 to reflect upon (see reflection in matrix)
2 to pay attention

you must see alice in wonderland, you must study yoga (real one, union with the one)

you must, after achieving satori see the matrix movie, you will start maybe to see the message.

everything that has been told his illusion, nobody can be told what it is.

you must also look at the signs in the news they are everywhere

Call me crazy, but have u ever wondered how things are done, created, though up. you know. How did Ford comup with the engine? how did ederson come up with the light bulb and electricity? how did man come up with the idea for computers and AI? how were languages created? mathematics created? etc.

Maby we do live in some sort of matrix, controlled by AI, How else could xplain man going from primordial ape to what were are today, without help.

How did we get here? Oooooh I reckon it's God.

Well that's how Descartes solved the "are we in the matrix" problem and he was pretty clever. Very Happy

John Mirra,

Why don't you tell us how you really feel? Cool I guess we need people like John to keep things in perspective. Your purpose is well served, John.. Thumbup

Personally, I feel there may or may not be a thing as Astral Plane, but people that so claim to have an astral projection (out of body) experience and have travel to that astral plane is full of crap. Theoretically, only dead people or people that have near death experience can even make it to that Astral plane (fourth/fith dimension). So unless you are dead or had a near death experience, you have never been there. Also, if you had a near death experience but came back, you never made it to the astral plane, because once you are in that dimension, there is no turning back.

At night, we all dream, and for lack of better way to describe it, we will say that we had an astral projection and our astral body separated into a dream world. But after all, a dream just a figment of the imagination. It's ok to fantasize and stuff, but believing it's real? Wake up people and get back to real world.

for once...im with you

this is just false philosophy...leave that shit to the experts and stop with all the horse shit

its one thing to discuss the matrix intelligently but its another thing entirely to start harping on about whether or not a computer is as old as the universe because the stuff it is made of is as old as the universe...what tosh...it makes me want to "blow chunks" as the yanks would say

stick to what you know and dont just jibber crap

cheers

Wow...really wasn't expecting those kinds of responses at all. Most of the people I've seen on these forums are fairly intelligent, respectful human beings...Some of those remarks were a bit uncalled for, wouldn't you think? We're merely discussing possibilities. If it's something you don't want to think about, or don't want to read, please don't insult others for thinking about it. We are all free to think/say/believe what we want. If I were to go to a forum where you were discussing YOUR thoughts, I would respect you right to have your own thoughts. I would not disrespectfully bash you and tell you to "stop talking jibberish" or whatever. Please, have a little respect...

I wouldn't take it too personally Dweeb,

Some people are bound to take offense at the suggestion that their reality is not what they think it is. Even if the suggestion is hypothetical.

To refer back to the matrix, there's a reason they don't free minds above a certain age...

Well, I'm not pissed off or anything. It is, after all, the internet. This kind of stuff is to be expected, it happens everywhere else. It just seemed like we had a good thing going for a while, what with the lack of attacking comments. I can handle them, I just think we'd ALL be a little better off without them.

No skin off my back.

I think this thread has kinda got off topic a tad.

Neo1 wrote:

Yes, in so far as the world as we know it is largely based on information channelled to us rather than what we experience directly.

We know what we are told and our beleifs are based on what we know.

Neo1 wrote:

Does the Matrix exist?

The matrix represents systems of control and these definately exist.

From revisionist history to monopolistic, politically motivated media corporations. The truth is often harder to find than you think.

The matrix may be "just a film", but it contains many metophors for life.

By not answering all the questions, it promotes debate.

Try finding a news channel that offers the same "freedom of thought"

Agreed 100%. It may be just a film, but there are things that we can think about that compare a bit to reality. Granted, nobody around here has super human powers (except maybe that crazy fruit claiming to be the 7th one...lol...). The movie does, however, allow us to explore new options of discussion. Try to find anything in life that makes "freedom of thought" easy. It never is. Some enjoy thinking abstractly. It is their freedom to do so. Some choose not to think about things "so far out there." That is also their freedom to do so.

What do you mean by "freedom of thought", do you think that if there was a real matrix and we were all plugged in that u would get to see the movie about it? Do you think that this forum would exist? The only thing where u are plugged in is the hollywood moneymaking matrix where u pay for triple dvd editions of your favorite movies...use some of that freedom of thought dude...

Umm...do you even know what you're talking about? As was clarified earlier, the movie simply contains metaphors for real life. No one is saying that the matrix really exists, no one ever said anything about whether or not "if there was a real matrix and we were all plugged in that u would get to see the movie about it," and people can decide for themselves whether to be "plugged in" to the triple dvd editions based on whether they thought the movies were good. So why don't YOU use some of THAT freedom of thought, DUDE....

Here's a real live metaphor for ya, just in case your dirt stupid and don't realize the connection:

Oracle: "I expect what I've always expected: for you to make up your own damn mind."

Real life connection: People can make up their own damn minds about whether or not to be "plugged into" Hollywood's big money maker, as you call it.

Enough...stop the hostility already, would you? Why not just let those interested in discussing the movies discuss them. No further need of your remarks here.

I have to refuse allowing this to go much further than it already has. I appologize if I came off as rude, but your remarks did seem quite on the offensive. You are, of course, entitled to your own opinion as to whether or not believing that there really is a matrix leads to insanity. I was unaware that you were directing your comments at those who BELIEVED in the matrix existing, as opposed to directing your comments at those who discussed the possibility. There is a difference, and I appologize for the misunderstanding. Can we agree to drop the "fuck you's" and all the rest of the bullshit?

John Mirra you are generally the most offensive person on this forum.
The criticism Dweeb made that you seemed out of touch with the conversation was fully justified.
Your reaction to Dweeb's criticism who over the top and completely irrational.

Now let's get back to the topic. Everyone seems to agree that you'd have to be nuts to think there were really a literal matrix. However, the matrix seems to be a metaphor for many things in life.

Which ones of these do you agree with?

Religion
(Christianity)
(Gnosticism)
(Buddhism)
(Hinduism)

An oppressive government
(Capitalist)
(Capitalist America)
(Communist)
(Facist)

Astral planes (someone suggested it)
Any oppression of any minority group

Of the above I would choose all of the religions with Christianity in particular and I would choose "an opressive government" but wouldn't choose any particular one. Anyone want to add to the list?

i hope that we can, but u must remember that when u call someone an "idiot" that "fuck yous" will come right back at you...
Now the very name of this topic is "do we live in the dream world" and if u read comments of many people in this forum u will see that many truly beleive or want to beleive that matrix exists, which is by my oppinion a bad thing and in extreme can lead to very bad things.

thank you

sorry mate...i was in a bit if a bad mood...but seriously though...

some of the theories in these forums have absolutely no basis in the matrix context or in reality...i can understand them and i am as guilty as anyone about coming up with outlandish theories...

sorry again
