My take on the movies...

Good day, this is one of my first posts here.
Its basically a short illustration of how I understand the movies (Including 2 Animatrix "Second Rennaissance" clips downloadable from the Matrix website).

I believe there will be numerous holes in my understanding, please point them out to be but don't be too harsh Razz

I start my theory from one word: understanding.

From what I see, the whole movie's premise - is that the human race was enslaved by machines (correct me on this). But, after that premise, all that is given to us are from the movie character's own understanding of their situation.

Let's just talk about the entities. There's a Matrix, a Machine City (01). I have not seen any evidence that the machines are actually thriving throughout the whole planet per se.

IF we accept Morpheus' (And the Zion Database which narrates the stories for the second rennaissance), the machines farmed human bodys for power. Unfortunately, this is what the humans think. (And probably applies to the Zion Database thing to, the data had to be put into it by humans...or something else). Thus, the usage of humans as power supply...are what the humans think is happening.

If we think of it this way, the matrix is just a sort of 'dream world' which is part of their power supply grid. Some sort of a control system for use in a power station. There isn't much need (for me at least) to see that it might have spread throughout the world, is incredibly large, or is incredibly important to the machines as a power supply.

Think of it from a human point of you. We have coal, oil, geothermal, wind, hydroelectric, fission power stations. We have several of each. We don't derive our power from just one single source, we have a few. (Don't put all your eggs in one basket). It wouldn't be too difficult to think as a machine and have several power sources too. (Think RAID arrays, APS backup systems now...). Thus, the loss of a big power supply might cripple or lower the system's performance, but would not neccessarily endanger the whole system. If a power station is down, power would be cut off from sections of a city, a whole city, or even several cities. But, after a short while, backup systems come online, technical teams get sent in and fix the problem. Would it be too farfetched to think that machines could do the same?

What if the Matrix, as we know it, is just...simply a mundane power station. There might be lots of other 'Matrices' (like power stations) providing power. The loss of one temporarily wouldn't be catastrophic. It wouldn't be designed that way.

However, a Matrix is immeasurably complex in comparison to current computing technology we have. (Try taking a model R/C aircraft back 100 years in time and showing it to people). But it is only relative, maybe in the future, many things could be taken for granted. Now, a simulation like a matrix seems impossible and will take up enormous resources and is not efficient, but in the future it might be very possible, or simple even.

Ok, enough of my useless drivel, I think I'll go into other things now.

What are "programs" in the matrix? What are programs in the machine world? Or what are machines? It is assumed that most machines require programs (software) to work. There would definitely be some machines which require none (Eg, bicycle...food blender....vacuum cleaner..) Thus we could conclude that not all programs could enter the matrix, only certain ones that has the compatible interface. (Like you couldn't really run Mac Apps natively on Windoze...)

Sorry, I had to go, I'll continue posting when I get back... sorry if it all seems pointless and idiotic :-/
