It's kind of long but you will not be dissapointed at all i promise.

This theory i finally put together accounts for everything except for how Neo can see the coding of the machines, and how he ended up in mobil ave.

"you are the sum of a remainder of an unbalanced equation inherent to the programming of the Matrix"

"I killed you Mr. Anderson i watched you die, with a certain satisfaction i might add, but then something happened, something i knew was impossible"

"He is you he is your negative, your opposite, the result of the equation trying to balance itself out"

"It is inevitable"

"Everything that has a beginning has an end"

We all know that Neo isn't called an anomaly untill the Matrix Reloaded, in fact it's one of the first things the upgraded Agents say when they meet him. And he is still only human. As if after the first movie he turned into the anomaly. Why is he now the anomaly? Because he contradicted one very single statement that exists in the programming of the Matrix...."Everything that has a beginning has an end".

Smith was suppose to kill Neo on Matrix 1, that was his end. Smith was Neo's end. But then something happened that shocked the hell out of Smith, Neo came back to life....he contradicted the statement and unbalanced the equation. Then he destroyed Smith contradicting the equation even more. Yet Smith comes back on Reloaded..why? because the equation is trying to balance itself out. Smith has to kill Neo, no matter what happens,If Smith has to multiply if Neo gets stronger Smith will get stronger, if Neo goes out of the Matrix, Smith will go out of the Matrix, if Neo learns to fly, so will Smith eventually, the equation will find new measures to balance itself out....and that balance can only be achieved when Smith kills Neo.

Bane/Smith: There's nowhere I can't go, there's nowhere I won't find you

Neo: what is he?

Oracle: He is you. Your opposite, your negative, the result of the equation trying to balance itself out.

Smiths' purpose on the first Matrix was to kill Neo when Neo came back and destroyed Neo, he almost took smith's purpose away and that was to kill Neo. Neo's purpose on the first movie was to give hope to the human race then die. But when he contradited it.

Oracle: Everything that has a beginning has an end. I see the end coming. I see the darkness spreading. I see death. And you are all that stands in his way.

Neo: Smith.

Oracle talks about the end but she says his way...as if she was reffering to Smith....she was, smith is Neo's end and thats why Neo is the only one that can finally get rid of him...because once the equation is balanced..there is no need for Smith any more his purpose is done he can finally be destroyed. Everything in the machine world and the Matrix must follow the function of this equation. No program or machine can disobey this equation.

Oracle - "The Power of the one extends beyond this world (The Matrix) it reaches from here all the way back to where it came from"

Neo - where?

Oracle - "the source"

Part of the function of the equation is that "Smith" has to be the one who destroys Neo....nothing can disobey this...whatever does will glitch instantly. When then sentinels went after Neo as soon as they got near him... they instantly glitched and shut down. When they were about to send a bomb to destroy the ship Neo knew it was a bomb...because whatever happens the equation will make sure that Smith is the one that destroys Neo. When they bombs were sent after Neo and Trinity when they got close to the ship they exploded and they kept exploding even when the ship got closer and closer....if you watch the movie again notice when the ship is really close to those big machines shooting no matter how many times they shoot at the ship, the bombs just keep exploding right in front of the ship....because it's a glitch it's going against the equation, the machines world obey's to the equation also. Even when the sentinel tried to enter the ship and attack Neo...it instantly disintegrated...because no matter what they can't kill Neo....it will instant glitch and the equation will try to balance itself...the machines will not/cannot kill Neo, Smith has to do it.

Even when Neo reaches the source, Neo tells Dues Ex Machina that he cannot stop Smith...only Neo can..Deus gets mad and tell him we dont' need you...and Neo says if this is so then kill me right now, why didn't it, why did it flake out? Because it cannot it will not! It obeys the laws of the equation it's a slave to it. Notice Dues tries to attack Neo with all those little machines but it just creates a sort of barrier around Neo it gets really close to his face but it cannot kill him no matter how hard it tries, Smith has to do it.

Dues Ex Machina: and if you fail?

Neo: I won't

Because he can't fail, because all he has to do is let Smith end his life.

That's why Smith always told Neo it was inevidable...that's why he asked why did Neo try to hard to fight it, Smith/Oracle: "Everything that has a beginning has an end" Smith is your end you have to let him kill you. Neo finally realizes this at the end and accepts it. Once Smith overwrites Neo, now Dues Ex can destroy Smith, because "It is done", the equation is balanced out.

Once Neo is killed and the equation is balanced, all the other smith's just fall like a domino rally, because Smith's purpose is done he can be destroyed now.[/i]

One flaw you need to remove from your theory:

Quote:

Because he (Neo) can't fail, because all he has to do is let Smith end his life.

If what you say is true, then why did Neo fight Smith at all? He could have just let Smith infect him... but no, he fought a long-drawn super battle with Smith.

Neo "believes" that the only way to save Zion is to reach the source and persuade the source to end the war with the humans and machines. He tells the source that he is the only one that can destroy Smith by fighting him . .

when Neo begins to fight Smith he believes in his powers, it becomes clear at the end of the fight that Smith is more powerful, Neo believing in himself wont destroy Smith so the only thing left for Neo is "choice".

now I know what your thinking well . . why would Neo give up on Zion by quitting? he doesnt quit, he just realises the choice to be made ( guided by the words of the Oracle ) do you remember that Agent smith overwrote the oracle? well the oracle knew what the resultant outcome would be if Neo made the correct decision and because she told Neo all along that he must make a "choice"

the oracle had code in her that returns rouge programs to the source and Neo was Jacked into the source ( as we saw ) . . . . that's why Agent Smith was deleted!.

so I dont think it is so much of a flaw . . . am I wrong?

He could just end it, but Neo chose to fight Smith, even when knowing he couldn't win. Hope, he tried to find another way out but finally realized it was pointless.

How Neo seperated his mind from his body,

Ok consider a couple of things.

Neo is a program
Mr. Anderson is a man

Neo : Can you fly that thing?

Trinity : ...Not yet.

Tank : Operator.

Trinity : Tank, I need a program for a V-212 helicopter...Hurry!

When Neo passed out after stopping the sentinels, he passed out. This is, Mr. Anderson passed out, the program Neo was still up and running. Now you may think ok how did Neo and Mr. Anderson remember everything that happened in Mobil ave. Because all the information was downloaded back into his mind after Trinity and the others saved him. Notice when he jacks out after coming from Mobil Ave. and seeing the Oracle he pops up with shock on his face, just like when he was learning Kung-Fu on the first one. Because the program Neo was downloaded back into his mind. Just like Smith downloaded himself into Bane.

This is why Neo can have those dreams about the future, because all the information is downloaded into his mind even when he's sleeping. This is why he can see the machine processes even out of the Matrix, because all the information is downloaded into his mind. The information is part of his mind and it allows his brain to interpret the Machines in a new way. It's just confusing because we believed that Mr. Anderson was still awake when he passed out while Neo was in Mobil Ave. Remember when he tells Morpheus that he wants to see the ORacle one last time, and Link reads the monitor and can't find Neo on it, that's because that Neo sitting in the car is a program. And when he jacked back out he downloaded all his information back into Mr. Anderson. Now Mr. Anderson is one with The Neo program again, and it seems as if he was the one who went to Mobil Ave. The Program Neo can see the Machine process and gives these signals to Mr. Anderson's brain.

Yes, Neo realized only during the fight that he should let Smith overwrite him. The point is that then:

1. How can we say that NEO knew all the time that "he wouldn't fail." Was he confident when he said that OR was he simply buying time.

2. And, what if he had been able to defeat Smith, however improbable that may seem... what if he had repeated the trick of M-1 by plunging into Smith and then "cutting" him from within...

3. And, why did Neo not repeat that trick of M-1...

4. OR did he actually repeat the M-1 trick by letting Smith overwrite him in M-3 and then cut him from within... is that how Smith was eradicated in M-3?

5. If so, then what happened to Neo's body (even a "dead" body) INSIDE the Matrix? (Note that when someone dies inside the Matrix, their residual images (or dead bodies) can be seen inside the Matrix--recall the scene in M-1 where Cypher killed so many...

6. If there was no Neo-dead body inside the Matrix in M-3, then what actually happened? Even if Neo died in the real world, why can't we see the dead body inside the Matrix... so many people are saying "positive" meets "negative" and the result is "vacuum." Is that what really happened?

Questions questions...

the reason that you couldnt see Neo's body inside the matrix after was because Agent Smith overwrote his residual self image, Neo thus became a smith and then the code was sent back to the source to get a bit of "Norton Anti-virus" treatment and they were all destroyed!

Why would Neo do the same thing from Matrix 1? It didn't work the first time it won't work the second time. It will just keep the equation unbalanced, Smith has to kill Neo not the other way around. When Smith overwrites Neo, Neo is finished, Now Smith has taken over Mr. Anderson. Now the machines can take hold of Smith and destroy him. Neo does not/cannot destroy Smith we saw this result on the first Matrix. In the end of Revolutions that isnt Neo's body in the Matrix and the end that's Mr. Anderson's RSI.

Mopheus: It was Smith?

Neo: Yes

Morpheus: nows there's more of him?

Neo: A lot more

Link: How is that possible?

Neo: I don't know, somehow he's found a way to copy himself.

Morpheus: Is that what he was doing to you?

Neo: I dont' know what he was doing, but i know what it felt like

Trinity: what?

Neo: I felt like i was back in that hallway, i felt like dying, I felt like dying.

Neo was able to sense the equation trying to balance itself out, Smith is suppose to kill Neo and he was able to feel this, it made him feel like fulfilling his purpose, and balancing the equation.

Maxis, I think I see a basic error in your theory...

You say "Smith was suppose to kill Neo on Matrix 1, that was his end. Smith has to kill Neo, no matter what happens..."

Your entire theory revolves around the central idea that Smith was supposed to kill Neo. Now consider this... Smith actually DID kill Neo in M-1. Till the time Trinity kissed him and revived Neo, Neo was dead! So, during that time between Neo's death in M-1 and his revival by a kiss... Smith's purpose was achieved... if your theory is to be believed. So at that time, why did not the Matrix system or the Source "vaporise" both of them? And why did not the system reset soon after? (Meanwhile, if Trinity was alive, I'm sure she would have kissed the second-time dead Neo again in the final Neo-Smith battle in M-3).

By the way, yes, even I think Neo and One are separate entities and have been writing about this....

matrix-explained.com...

and

matrix-explained.com...

Now another question:

You say: "When Neo passed out after stopping the sentinels, he passed out. This is, Mr. Anderson passed out, the program Neo was still up and running. "

When Neo stopped the sentinels, at that point, both Thomas Anderson AND the code carried by the One were out of the Matrix (at that moment Neo's mind and body were together)... not inside it! It was only AFTER stopping the sentinels that Neo passed out, and his mind got stuck in LIMBO---Mobil Ave, just on the border of the Matrix, in the Trainman's link... AFTER touching the sentinels---Neo's mind was "thrown" inside that link and his body left behind in coma... unjacked...

Recall that the code is "carried" by Neo... the Architect says as much... and before he stopped the sentinels, NEO was successful in coming out of the Matrix as a whole person... mind and body together....

And the reason why this "thown in" mind of Neo's without a jack into the Matrix is not recognized by those monitoring is that an RSI is there without the body attached to the system projecting it. Here's the dialogue:

Link:...Did you find Neo?

Morpheus: Can't you see him?

Link: No, sir. We were reading something but I couldn't tell what it was.

Link can't even say what it is that is traveling in the car--he never says "we can see a program..." it's something new to all... it has never happened before... just the mind...

Yes Smith killed Neo on the first one, but then Neo came back and it was unbalanced. Ok consider this on Matrix Revolutions Smith became out of control!

Neo: The Program smith has grown beyond your control, you cannot stop him, but i can.

On the first movie Smith wasn't out of control, so there was no point of destroying him right after he killed Neo, now he just had to return to the source. But before he got a chance Neo came back to life and threw the equation out of whack again, so the system is now trying to bring it back to it's intended state, that is Smith kill Neo.

On revolutions Smith was a big threat and he took over almost every one, even the Oracle so on Revolutions it wasn't so much return to the source, it was destroy him.

As for mobile ave. Neo was a program but he was an unrecognizable program, just like Link couldn't recognize Smith as an agent in the fight between Neo and Smith. Because the codes that make up their programs are unbalanced and read in a obscure manner.

i think that when smith takes over Neo he is unbalancing the equation, thus crashing it. when this happens, Neos body is encapsulated by the source.

Neo has returned to the source. The matrix can now be safely reloaded with the code that he carried.

Neos purpose is not to balance the equation i dont think.. I think his purpose is to save humanity. He chooses to fight for freedom because he loves Trinity so much. Neos purpose is not to balance the equation (thats the arcitects job) the oricles purpose is to unbalance it.

As for the whole Smith killing Neo in m1 i htink your a biut of target too. Smith (as an agent) has a purpose to keep the matrix under control. after Smith kills Neo he still has a purpose to continue maintaing the matrix. but Neo comes back and kills Smith. Smith can't complete his purpose ebcause he is compelled to fight Neo. Smith looses his agenthood. But he doesn't get diseminated at the source, because he has a new purpose. REVENGE! He becomes a rougue program inside the matrix with a purpose to kill Neo.

Neo definatly ISN'T a program at all. he is human. Humans arn't programs. The reason Humans aren't programs is that they make random choices which the matrix can't understand. (tries to) if you REALLY wanna know how Neo stopped the sentinals then i can tell ya. Check out the this forum.

IF Smith's purpose was to maintain control, and Architect said that Neo's so called purpose was to return to the source, then why was Smith sent to kill him? That doesn't make any sense, it's like saying i need you to come back here, yet i'll send someone to kill you and end it all.

Smith's purpose is to kill Neo, because his purpose wasn't fulfilled.. he is still sticking around, he's compelled to stay, compelled by his purpose. Smith was in a previous version of the Matrix, he knows the purpose of The One, so why was surprised that Neo came back to life?

Take a look at what Smith tells Morpheus in M-1:

************************
Agent Smith: Can you hear me, Morpheus? I'm going to be honest with you. I hate this place, this zoo, this prison, this reality, whatever you want to call it. I can't stand it any longer. It's the smell, if there is such a thing. I feel saturated by it. I can taste your stink. And every time I do I feel I have somehow been infected by it. It's repulsive, isn't it? I must get out of here. I must get free and in this mind is the key, my key. Once Zion is destroyed there is no need for me to be here, don't you understand? I need the codes. I have to get inside Zion, and you have to tell me how. You're going to tell me or you're going to die.
************************

The bold-formatted text will tell you that Smith's purpose in M-1 was NOT to kill Neo, but to destroy ZION, and after that was achieved, Smith would not need to be in the Matrix at all! That is why, after Neo died the first time in M-1, Smith continues to exist... because Zion still stands at that time.

Therefore the central idea on which you have based your theory has been checkmated ;--)

his point while flawed may be validated by the fact the before neo got out of the matrix Smith saught him out...(although it was to get at Morpheous) Smith could have gotten those codes from Niobe or any other Hovercraft Captain but he chose morpheous, why....It was enevitable. Neo was going down the path to be the one Smith was going to be the Counter One his path for morpheous only led him to Neo once finding Neo and Neo "unplugging" him his focus shifts to Neo and once that happens then the Matrix needs Neo to cancel Smith. Because without neo smith wouldn't have went rouge.

What do you think?

Xhadow, what you say may be true and we can argue on that but Maxis based his entire thory on the idea that Smith's purpose was to kill Neo, and that very central idea is what the error is. A building standing on a weak foundation won't stand for long.

Not exactly. Let us be reminded that just because we have a purpose we don't always know what that purpose is. and in M1 Neo wasn't a threat to Smith (at least for most of the movie) Morpheous was. Morpheous stood in the way of smiths dreams of freedom.

He also says here [quote]I must get free and in this mind is the key, my key

Smith has already made getting Morpheous something personal a desire or lust as it were...

Now after his encounter with Neo Smith is free so he has no reason to want to or have to break morpheous. But he has only had a taste of the power of the one and like the old fable the goose that laid the golden egg he figures he will have it after killing neo. so he stacks the odds in his favor thus elimenating the chance that the matrix or even the machines would dare try to stop him from his goal and garunteeing his victory against neo. Thus the machiens couldn't let neo die because he was the only answer for this problem.

Xhadow I am not disputing anything you say... all I'm saying is that in M-1, Smith's purpose was NOT to kill Neo BUT to destroy Zion... and because he wasn't able to do so for a long time, he was frustrated... he simply did not like the the Matrix environment and wanted to go back to the Machine World--the software environment he was originally from.

Note Smith was not human---so I can't really say I support you when you say that "sometimes we do not know our purpose"---this may be true for humans, but in the movies, this is not true for the agents and other programs--they know their purpose right from the start... right from the time they are made... and the day they have no more purpose they can either "exile" themselves into the Matrix and "hide there" OR return to the Source... Smith in M-1 clearly knew his purpose and so did the system--destroy Zion.

All I'm saying is that and that only: "Once Zion is destroyed there is no need for me to be here, don't you understand?"

Other ideas of yours are good and should be discussed separately, without reference to this incorrect interpretation of Smith's purpose in M-1.

Allow me some time and I will post a topic in a day or two.

about HOW he gets here...

what if when he left went to the architect (M2) NEO gets "saved" when he leaves the matrix and he passes out from the sentinel it is because the machines cant kill him but something happens to the "downloaded NEO" the machines notice this and NEO is placed in an extra part of the matrix then when he is "downloaded" again the old parts of neo are deleted and "updated" then NEO is updated by the info MR ANDERSON has

just a little thing i was thinking of

also what if the reason neo fights in revolutions is if neo gives up to start with then smith will think somthing is up or maybe smith cant take over neo because he is too strong and had to be worn down first
