In the credits of the Animatrix, Thaddeus' lover was called Jue. But in the episode (the last flight of the Osiris), Thaddeus CLEARLY said to "Jue":

Quote:

Jue: Goodbye, Thaddeus.
Thaddeus: Goodbye, Joanne.

So what was THAT all about?

Could it be:
1. her real name, and Jue is her nickname
2. a nickname (although generally nicknames are SHORTER, not LONGER)
3. The name she had in the Matrix (but wouldn't that be an insult to call her by her old name? Only Smith and agents do that! Or people who used to know her in the Matrix)

Here's where Grendelvs and I previously argued:

Hmmm.... :whatthe:

That's strange, I thought he said Jue... I remember that because at the time I thought he was calling her a Jew. That's what happens when you watch Animatrix on very little sleep.

I don't think that, after someone is saved, they still believe in God, or Christ, or any religion. They seem spiritual (like in the rave/sex scene), but they don't seem religious.

Religion doesn't come into it because it is a symbol for religion. Recognising yourself as having escaped from the matrix is the analogy for Christianity (Christians believe "the truth shall set you free" - Trusting in Jesus saves you from sin (smith) and judgment for sin (setinels))

As for Jue or Joanne thing he says Jue!

He says Jue pronounced Jo-ay

It's an eastern name geddit? Not pronounced Jew!

this is what i think. i think that JUE was her chosen name (like Neo, Trinity, Deadbolt, Morpheus, etc). (just for more background, a jue was a sacred bronze ceremonial implement employed by the kings of the Shang Dynasty during the dynasty's last phase (ca. 1300-1050 BC). it was used as a kind of a beaker for dispensing an alcoholic beverage being offered along with a kind of ceremonial stew in various bronze pots as a kind of sacred meal being offered to royal ancestors perceived as gods. so the name actually MEANS something on it's own, and not just a shortening)

i think that Joanne was her name when she was in the Matrix. Slinterinyourmind said:

it's possible that Thaddeus did know Jue in the Matrix. ot nor...that is speculation. because (in Reloaded and in Enter the Matrix) Niobe calls Deadbolt "Jason." did they know each other in the Matrix? who knows? what i DO know is that they're an intimate couple.

whoops...i forgot my main point: what should WE call her?

of the characters whose Matrix-given names we know (Deadbolt, Cypher, Neo, and i guess now Jue), do we call ANY of them by that name? no, we don't. i would ask that since her Zion (self-chosen) name is Jue, that i (personally) would call her that, if for no other reason that i don't call Cypher (Mr. Reagan), Neo (Thomas Anderson), or Deadbolt (Jason) by their Matrix-given names. i would say that since the credits rolled as "Jue", that's her Zion-chosen name, so why call her Joanna? why make an exception for her and only her?

Didn't you hear what I said? Go back to the animatrix and listen carefully this time!

He says "goodbye Jue"

Jue is pronounced jo-ay (NOT jew)

At NO POINT is she called Joanne. That is rubbish. She chose the name Jue, she is called Jue and we have NO IDEA what her name was before she left the matrix.

The End.

ooh, is it alright if i sit here and cower before your might before i continue to post in this thread? gee, i hope so...

now that you're done being King of the Forum, lemme say...
1) you'll notice the posting times, mine was posted about one munite (but it could be like, ten seconds) after yours, so we were probably typing at the same time so, NO i didn't hear what you said.

2) as far as pronounciation, you're right. i have the Animatrix on VCD (so i don't get subtitles) and listening to it loud enough to get the pronounciation of Jue (and not Joanna) tends to annoy my neighbors. so, your highness, you don't have to be an ass. unless that's your pre-dispostion, in which case, i know that there's nothing you can do about it and you're forgiven. Your last post (before the offensive one) was TEN minutes after mine. Sorry if that wasn't enough time to read it.... :s

Ay! Guys, there's no need to get angry. So we've basically covered some points. Her name is Jue. It sounds like Joanne (with an E Grendey, not A. That would be Johanna, which is completely different. Tongue Mryellow ). So you're right, but I have a point. Cool

PROOF WE HAVE FOUND:
1. I read in a manga/anime magazine that was reviewing the Animatrix, and it said that her name was Jue. I don't think they'd make typos that large.
2. In the credits, it says Jue.
3. The whole pro-nun-ci-ation thing that Fatpie42 was talking about.
