Going back to the meaning of Neodammerung and assuming that it means doom of Neo, or even new doom--
Realizing that dammerung is a german word (I got that from this forum) and assuming that doom is the correct meaning/intent/translation of dammerung, there is a strong tie between the word doom and the word fey, which is something like surrendering or being resigned to destiny/fate (someone with more knowledge can correct me, I am sure).
That being said, I believe another translation of neodammerung is new doom/fey/destiny which could represent the new destingy of the human/machine relationship and the attitude of the architect when asked if he would release those who want out (What do you think I am? Human?).

That's my two bits. Feel free to rip it apart if you wish.

Well it definately has so many bloody meanings, probably why the Brothers chose it, since it can be interpreted from so many angles and each angle works.

What about the verses in neodammerung? How do they relate. At the end of super burly brawl, the song why mr anderson plays, containing some of the words from neodammerung (many do). What is interesting is how the first verse is sung in y mr anderson as neo is taken away by the machine, suposedly dead. But as we all know, 'from death lead me to immortallity' is one of the lines. Does this suggest he is not dead? perhaps he has been reinstated as a program?> i dont know, anyone got any thoughts on this?

Why does man lament the state he should envie?

here is something i wrote on it from a post from a long while back:

wAkE_uP_nEo wrote:

If u ask me.. and i'm pretty sure no-one did, but i'll tell u what i think anyway...

the answer to the question of whether Neo is dead is.. yes & no

his physical shell is dead.. he had to sacrifice his physical self to Smith in order to "balance out the equation". Hardly anyone asks.. is Smith dead? And we all know they are equal and opposite. If you want to look at the religious symbolism of it, like Christ, Neo sacrificed himself so that mankind could be saved.

On the other hand, after Christ's human body died he ascended to heaven. Similarly, in Buddhist theology, you could say that Neo achieved immortality through enlightenment. Neodämmerung, the music that plays during the Super Burly Brawl (the final Neo-Smith confrontation), is sung in Sanskrit and the words pretty much explain the essence of the final chapter:

From delusion lead me to truth
From darkness lead me to light
From death lead me to immortality.

He who knows both knowledge and action,
with action overcomes death and with
knowledge reaches immortality.

In him are woven the sky and the earth and all the regions of the air,
and in him rest the mind and all the powers of life.
Know him as the ONE and leave aside all other words.
He is the bridge of immortality.

Beyond the senses is the mind, and beyond the mind is reason, its essence.
Beyond reason is the Spirit in man, and beyond this is the Spirit of the Universe, the evolver of all.

When the five senses and the mind are still, and reason itself rests in silence, then begins the Path supreme.

And when he is seen in his immanence and transcendence,
then the ties that have bound the heart are unloosened,
the doubts of the mind vanish, and the law of Karma works no more.

If you're not a fan of the religious symbolism then there is also a more technical explanation, namely that Neo's essence will live on because when he dies, the code which brings the power of the One returns to the Matrix and will be present in the next anomaly.

I think a lot of people misunderstood the final words of the Oracle, causing a lot of people to roll their eyes and cry foul, thinking that we'd been jipped into thinking Revolutions was the end when actually there will be a Matrix 4. A lot of those people hated Revolutions. I, on the other hand, didn't but as sad as it may be for me.. i'm pretty sure there will be no more matrix movies.. or rather, no more regarding this cycle of matrix. The Matrix trilogy gave us a comparatively small glimpse of the overall picture but Revolutions closed this chapter on the story of Neo, Trinity, Morpheus et al. That's not say there would never be anything on a different story within the Matrix, but don't hold your breath for that either. I know the Wachowskis are seriously considering another video game to expand Seraph's backstory though.

. The Upanishads are a collection of approximately 120 literary works written mostly in the form of dialogue between a spiritual master and his students. Responding to a series of inquiries about the nature of reality, the master leads his students to a state of enlightenment or realization. Similarly, Morpheus leads Neo to seek the truth.

Generally it is thought it is some religous texts, although hindusim uses that. But the upanishads are not any thing religous but are excellent conversation between a master and a student.

In Sanskrit, the word Upanishad literally means “to sit down near” or “to sit with complete attention near the Master.” This indicates the close proximity in which the Truth was imparted by teacher to disciple in the Upanishadic tradition. Students lived with the master in a spiritual community (ashram) as part of his family, just like Morpheus and his crew on The Nebudchadnezzar.
In this familiar and close atmosphere of mutual trust, the student could ask questions close to his heart and the master could answer them fully. The students would ask the following questions:
• Who am I?
• Where have I come from and why?
• What is the relationship between me and the universe and other human beings?
• What is the true nature of myself and the universe?
• What is the relationship between consciousness and the objects of the universe?
• What is Truth and how do we realize it in a rational manner?
This form of question and answer also describes the relationship between Morpheus and Neo.

Upanishads encourage questioning and allow free thinking. As mentioned earlier, most of the Upanishad texts are question answer dialogues between a student and teacher, a father and son or a husband and wife.

Matrix has been strongly been influenced by Upanishads. Look at Don Davis interview

music.ign.com...

" I asked them (wachowski's) if they would look for something in literature that represented some of the ideological themes that had influenced them when they were writing The Matrix. They eventually came up with about six passages from the Vedic scriptures called the Upanishads. And these texts are amazingly apropos to the whole ontological concept of The Matrix. It refers to “The One.” And the first text you hear sung in the burly brawl sequence is Asatoma sad gamaya. I think that adds a whole layer of meaning to the entire trilogy.

It is very interesting to know that Neo's journey to the source, is our own story about our inner quest to know about the mystery of our life, universe and the purpose of our life.

Upanishads and the Vedas
The earliest Indian Texts are the Vedic hymns, orally composed and transmitted in four collections, from around the beginning of the 1st millennium BC and long regarded as too sacred to be written down.
These collections, containing poems of praise and invocation to numerous deities, but usually alluding to myths about them, are the earliest part of the Vedas.

The Aranyakas and the UPANISHADS are speculative texts which nonetheless make use of myth to communicate their ideas.
The predominantly male Vedic deities, the Devas, display very human characteristics. There are often said to be 33 of them, later usually divided equally between the three regions of heaven, atmosphere and earth. Their chief attribute is their power, and hence their ability to help mankind Cool

i'm sorry but the upanishads are older than that...they date back to at least 4-5K BC...
imho, they go back MUCH MUCH later...
but as you mention, they were not originally "written" down, but were passed along orally.
so this does make dating very difficult...
1000 BC is perhaps the earliest WRITTEN examples of these teachings.
now...if you really read the upanishads and/or the vedas...you will know that it is not about "devas" or "gods"....but a teaching of how to find "god" within you...
the basis of hinduism is a way of life...hinduism is not a "religion"!
it does not tell you "what to do" and "when to do" and "how to do" and "why to do" and etc. etc. etc.
no where in the orginal "texts" is there a reference to "sin"....
what is there is basically....
"dharma"....leads to...."karma".
your "actions" determines your "ghathi".
everyone knows "karma" means fate...
but....this "fate" is the western understanding that has been superimposed ("roll of the dice")...
remember not everything can be translated "exactly".
you need to actually "live" the language/culture to understand the nuiances...
