[Matrix Reloaded]
Neo: "So we need machines and they need us. Is that your point, Councillor?"
Councillor Hamann: "No, no point. Old men like me don't bother with making points. There's no point."
Neo: "Is that why there are no young men on the Council?"
Councillor Hamann: "Good point."

THE "OBVIOUS" THEORY

There is clearly a lot going on in the film and it all warrants discussion but for me there is one obvious thing with a strong meaning which stands out above most others:

- The end of Matrix 3 represents existense in our REAL world - today.

Can anybody come up with a reason why this is not true? Is there anything in the movies which suggests otherwise? I can't think of anything!

Actually, if Neo is the sixth anomaly, then it be more reasonable to think that the Matrix at the end of Revolutions would be the 7th Matrix because you could assume that there was a matrix before the first anomaly.

However, I wouldn't say it's obvious that we're living in the seventh Matrix. Although there is no evidence against it, there is no evidence for it. We could be living in the past of the Matrix movies before the "Golden Age" of Man and the rise of the machines. The Matrix is modeled to resemble our present, so according to the movie, our present could be the real present or the Matrix. I think one of the meanings of the film is to explore that question. But you can't know for sure unless you're outside the Matrix (and even then, according to some theories, you still can't be sure).
