Solar Cross motif is found in the decoration of in Hel Night Club and the windoes of Zion Council Chambers

altreligion.about.com...

The Solar cross is one of the oldest religious symbols, and represents a calendar marking the solstices and equinoxes:

Definition: The Solar cross is probably the oldest religious symbol in the world, appearing in Asian, American, European, and Indian religious art from the dawn of history. Composed of a equal armed cross within a circle, it represents the solar calendar- the movements of the sun, marked by the solstices. Sometimes the equinoxes are marked as well, giving an eight armed wheel. (The swastika is also a form of Solar cross.)

The cross in its most simplified form is known in Northern Europe as Odin's cross, after the Chief God of the Norse pantheon. It is often used as an emblem by Asatruar, followers of the Norse religion.

Does that really make you wonder? See:

matrix-explained.com...

Matrix is imho about the old indoeuropean wheater and sun god Rudra aka Odin and the battles of shambala and armageddon mixed together.

Well, yes it is a very ancient religious symbol, but not in the form you have pictured, that dates from mainly post Christian times, altho in some middle eastern and asian cultures it pre-dates Christianity. But then, since Christianity also post dates these religions (Buddism most noteably), there you go.
The solar cross in more ancient and original versions are similar to those found in Iraq. Try searching by Assurnasiripal II of Nimrud (Kalah, Iraq), and you'll seen the more ancient version. This symbolism is worldwide, and stems from the ths sun viewed during full eclipse.

While typing this, I did a google search of the above, I found the link :

suncrossxsymbol.homestead.com...

Read thru it and you'll find the phrase :"there are comparatively few ancient cultures that did not utilize this universal symbol." Which is pretty much what I was already typing.

Hey, can I use my favorite word again? ?

All religions and symbolisms are palimpsestic. ?

Roman crucifxion tool of course everyone knows this

Actually this was kind of taboo to start with because it was not thought of by some as a sign of life but of death of mockery of Christ's crucifixion.

It was a symbol of life (the wheel of life) long before it was abused that way.

oeaw.ac.at...
Iovi O(ptimo) M(aximo) as gaul sun god taranis.

Its the indoeuropean red sun gods symbol of power, rudra in vedic belief, the red eagle. Well known from india over iraq and anatolia to gaul and ireland. In phoenician syria his name was baal-hadad, in anatolia the hethite god tarud, later prayed to by roman troops as jupiter dolichenus. Note the "rud" in nimrud, tarud and rudra, it just means red (germanic rudh). So he is called "The Red" - ta-rud.
(Not to be mixed up with the ammonitian molek please! *g*)
Indoeuropean culture started spreading around 5000 bc from the black sea area, so the sun wheel is by far older than the christian symbol that made a symbol of death out of it. Its a symbol of life and light, no matter what others later made out of it. I think of it as a sign of life, i pray to the red, no taboo for me...

Or did this simply touch your christian taboo-"Matrix" program rules? *smile*

What's more basic than the worship of the Sun?

Well, to invoke the name of Baal. Next we should invoke Moloch (Molekh), who was also the sun god of the Canaanites, Ammonites, especially in the Valley of Hinnom. ;p

I thought Rudra was the Indian verb to scream or howl, and pronounced "ru-dra", not "rud-ra", and not sure it has any relation to red. But in Mythology, he was the father of the storm gods, Marut, etc. And you're correct, in Assyrian he was Baal-Hadad or to the Canaanites he was the Ugaristic Ball Sapon, god of the seafarers and mariners and in other manefestations in the region, Akkadian Adad. And then there's Shamash( and Sin and Hadad) for the Sumerians, Mesopotamians and the Semites. To the Romans he's Jupiter Optimus Maximus. with various other names, as in Aelestis, Lucetius , Totans, Fulgurator .
In Greek he would be Zeus (Dios). If we get into the Greek, then we wind round to Persephone, daughter of Zeus and Demeter (Proserpina to the Romans). Persephone might be interesting in this discourse, as her name means roughly "she who destroys light."

Just grab a bunch of scrabble pieces, toss them onto the ground, and you'll probably come up with the name of some sun diety somewhere.

>>Sorry to edit/add, but I almost forgot, isn't red in Syriac: Sumoqo, in Arabic: Ahmar, and in Sumerian si or si4.

Or Akai in Japanese, like the electronics manufacturer. Wink

For the semite nomades in the desert the sun ment death, for their northern farming neigbours light and life...

I was following the indoeuropean language path. *g*
Rudh = germanic red

Rudra in hindu
Ruda in ancient arabic
Tarud in hetithe
Rudianos in gaul
Erudio in ancient spain
Ruadan or Mog Ruith in Ireland

Alsways the same old sun, wheather and mountain god, bearer of the wheel, holder of the trusul, roaring in fight, feeding and healing his people in peace.

Respecting Marvels and DCs educative work one may also call him "The Flash"... *g*

This is a hint on the used spiritual myth mix in "The Matrix". Some parties seem to fight under a non christian flag. The solar cross is a symbol of old indoeuropean deities. Neo is not just Jesus V. 2.0.

Or, the W Bros or the art directors just liked the basic iconographics. Looks, cool, it's used in several religious doctrines, so go with it.

I read this thread with great interest. If we can hunt out some more of these subtle links between zion and the matrix world locations then we can certainly draw some powerful conclusions as to the reality of both. Its a lot like the architects screens and the time we axamined those for possible zion pictures. There is almost certainly some throwaway link between the two, its just finding it that will prove tricky, keep those eyes peeled.
