Will there be a 4th Matrix movie?

There's a lot of speculation going on in these forums, but a key question that could affect all the theories being discussed is whether there's more information to come or is that all the info we'll ever get? In other words, will there be another matrix movie, or some kind kind of Wachowski-created device to continue the story. Perhaps the reason that so many questions were left unanswered (in fact, more questions were raised), was to set up for a continuation of the story. To start things off, has anyone heard officially whether there is definitely going to be something else or definitely not going to be anything else? The Wachowski brothers seemed to want this to be a multi-media experience (i.e. movies, animation, video game, website), perhaps they are thinking T.V. series or books or something. Anybody know or does anyone have comments?

What i want to know is did the Wacho bros have this story down on paper before the online game was proposed or did they leave the ending of Revolutions wide open so that Matrix online had an 'universe' to exist in? Tripleconfused

From all sources that seem near reliable, the Matrix Trilogy will stay a Matrix Trilogy.

But, that doesn't rule out other things. Of course the Matrix Online is scheduled to come out in 2004, but i'm completely skeptical of it. With any luck i'll get to try it out in beta; because i feel it has potential. But, we'll see.

I definately hope another console video game will come out, even though the first one didn't do so hot outside of hardcore Matrix fans.

What i would LOVE to see is another series of Animatrix's, but whether or not that will happen, none of us can say.

Sadly, we may have seen the last creative bit of the Matrix series; but we can hope, can't we? Hehe

I think the Brothers have made a firm commitment to the Matrix Comix, that being one of their favorite mediums anyway. Also, their homage to everything Japanimation may bear more fruit in a 3rd Renaissance type short that might answer some post Revolutions headscratching.
Whatever happens I sincerely hope it is out of creative genius and not because some studio execs feel they can milk this cash cow for the sake of the almighty dollar.

Hear, Hear! Well said. If they destroy the Matrix with sellout crap just to milk it out, I'll be really depressed. Wait a minute. . .did that already happen?

It did seem after the sheer magnificence of 'The Matrix' anything other than a cinematic equivelent of Christ's second coming would be a severe let down.
With that said, Reloaded, The Animatrix, Enter The Matrix, Revolutions and then the comix all within a 6 month window? Make hay while the sun shines is the old proverb - and the WB studio certainly hooked their cart to the Wachowski Bros and went for a ride.
Even though the hay may have lost some of it's lustre, this hungry horse has nothing better to eat.

I think there's more to come from the Whacho bros. There are a lot of gaps within the 3 matrix movies... and i think those will be covered by more and more animatrix films...

If you take the the piont of view that the matrix films resemble the life of jesus in some odd way... there wonīt be another film.. 'cause as we all know he gave his life (again) for everyone within the matrix at the end of Revolutions....
but if you donīt ... and please donīt .... there will be more.

wait.... although... there could be a resurrection ... hmm just thought abt that. good point.... but that would mean another Neo... but hey who knows we could still have pre-quels.
damn .. just thinking abt the matrix.. makes you come up with a lot of theories and at the same time questions ...

good luck with yours !

Remember Not all trilogies stay as a Trilogy, and we have a very good example given by Star Wars.

P.S. I do hope thereīs more to come.

I don't think we will see another movie. There are several themes in the movies, and several references to different religions. The end of Revolutions is about Neo, "the Christ figure" making the ultimate sacrifice, but also about the 7 incarnations of Vishnu and reaching enlightenment. Also Neo became "THE ONE" when he accepted the "light side"to join with his "dark side" (Agent Smith). This is a Buddhist Yin-Yang reference.

IMO, the Trilogy will remain just that.

I remember an interview with Keanu Reeves where he says: "Revolutions will end the story," then he stuttered and said "well, it will end Neo's story.

Has he let something slip?

I think he has.The Matrix Trilogy finished the Story of Morpheus,Trinity and Neo, but the story could continue. What if the Peace doesnt last? What if the Machines and the humans go to war again?

Remeber the Oracle didnt say it would last forever.Maybe Keanu was reffering to later events, maybe with new characters and a new One,after a new war has started.
Thoughts?

I've been told before by reading the MMORPG site, that the Matrix Online will be the continuation of the story, since the war between machine and Zion is over, but the people are still not free.

Personally, I doubt there will be a 4th movie, since most of the main characters have either died or ended, yet what happened at the end of Revolutions needs more discussion.

I'd really like that there would be 4th Matrix, hopefully the brothers will end up on matrix-explained.com and read about all the ideas and twists mentioned, they would have something to think of and they would have to do another matrix movie. Is this the end? No.
They left it for ourselves, they kept it secret - why? No reason, I love the movies (ofcourse), I even loved Revolutions, though it left so much questions unanswered. and at the same time I hate it and I love it so damn much, a religion to me so to speak.
Come on brothers, give us what we want. Gumpred

It's very possible that there will be another part.

1.Keanu said that he will not play in another part ( so they killed him in revolutions)
2. As some say the 4 part will be about diffrent characters (neo and trinity died)
Maybe the 4 part will be about thing before the fist part

also it's very possible that they will make a TV serial . (I'm rather sure about it)

My theory on the 4th film is that it will continue some time after the end of revolutions with some of the characters in the 3rd film.

There seemed to be less concentration on Neo and Trinity in the 3rd (because they were going to die at the end) and more concentration on the people of Zion.

Niobe and the kid who was reloadin the weapons on the armoured personnel robots seemed to get featured a lot. Maybe the kid is a possible candidate for a new "the one" ?

I'll leave you to stew over that one Cool

I heard some speculation that the Kid is the next "One". There was a lot of that going around, especially before Revoltuions came out. There was a rumor that the end involved the Kid replacing the Architect. By the way, was this an actual alternate ending that was circulated to mislead everyone or was this just a few smart-asses having fun? Anyone know?

Anyway, the Kid was the only Self-substantiator (person who frees himself from the Matrix without help) since the original "One" which makes him a candidate. Here's a clue that I have yet to figure out how to interpret: The Kid's name is Michael Karl Popper. Karl popper is a 20th century philosopher who came up witha theory of falsification to determine how "scientific" an idea is. He also preached against the teachings of Hegel about Determinism and stuff.

Anyway, one last thought, if the next "One" is already free, that takes half the fun out of the next movies, because there couldn't really be a search for him. In addition, that would also imply that the Matrix doesn't last very long between Reloadings because it would have to reload again within the Kid's lifetime. I don't think the new "One" has been discovered yet. (I don't think it is Sati either, I've seen that post).

I hope they don't make more Matrix movies with new characters. I personally think they should have left it with only one movie.... something that good shouldn't be messed with. After the first Matrix, there were lots of questions left unanswered, but we knew that we didn't have much of an understanding of the matrix anyway, so it wasn't so annoying. With more movies, as we learn more and more about The Matrix, more questions are raised. I think that more Matrix movies would just keep reducing in quality anyway. They were lucky to make such an amazing movie as The Matrix.

Wow, that got really off topic.

What I indended to say was, I hope they don't make more Matrix movies with new characters because then they would be more about the machine war, which I don't find as interesting - I like the stuff about programs and real world vs. matrix and Neo understanding the matrix and stuff like that better. But I guess they pretty much finished all that in the first movie.

Hello!

Interesting ideas, but I'm falling on the side that the Kid is not the one - after all Neo is doing that "job" right now and has basically ensured that any need for future "ones" are effectively ended (in the current form they have existed - a Matrix reset event/mechanism).
I would also offer that the emergence of the one from one version of the matrix to the next would take many generations, after all Zion is restarted from a handful of people and escalates to many thousands before the One is needed to reset the balance.
That is now not needed - not yet anyway....
not until, possibly, the balance is upset - after all the humans are happy; everyone in the Matrix now has a choice on if they want to stay or leave, the machines are happy; they can still have the power from the humans that remain in the Matrix. The only division not covered is the programs, for those program who are happy the enjoy the freedom that the new peace has to offer (the Oracle, Seraph et al) everything is fine, but for other programs who thrive on power and control (such as the Merovingian as his powerbase) they will most certainly want to ignite another war between the humans and the machines - maybe the premise of the Matrix On-Line will be the battle of power between the humans and those programs which seek to gain power from a new war with the machines (?)
No doubt we'll find out next year...(possibly)

As for further Matrix films - I severaly doubt it (although nothing is set in stone) - the Bros. have said no more, Joel Silver has said no more and anyone involved closely has said the same.

Heres hoping the Bros. get a concept for the Matrix TV Series in Anime format down and out within the next five years!
(They mentioned an interest in developing this when Reladed came out!)
