I just wanted to get some replies on what u guys think about the opening sequence in the matrix...a 3D matrix green script turning into a clock. I also notice that they keep talking about time. They must mention the word time about 100 TIMes Smile. what do u guys think??

Great question: probably most people thought it was just a tricky way to start things off.

In which case it might not mean much of anything: I know that's heresy to many people who think every detail has been "matrixed" into a whole. As Freud said, sometimes a cigar doesn't symbolize anything, it's just a cigar.

The opening clock sequence could be a symbol that time is running out for Zion, that zero hour is approaching (it is of course as the Sentinels dig ever deeper).

A little addition for you, I'm sure you've all seen it.

At the very end of the sequence just as the digital code fades to the clock you see the time in digital format. Kind of a reminder that even this "Analogue" clock is still digital inside.

Now I imagine you're thinking "well we know this, so what".

Well we've already seen the internals of the clock - Dials, Cogs, even screws are made up of matrix code, so the underlying digital nature is already made.

But they went and had the digital display as well, perhaps to reinforce the point, maybe even suggesting the cogs and stuff are irrelevant.

Then again, maybe it's just so we know it's midnight, not midday.

Watched it again and I take it all back.

The clock is actually a clocking in and out machine, so the digital part will be what stamps the guard's time card.

One other tiny bit of information is visible - It's Sunday Night as indicated by SU next to the time.

Security guards in the matrix sure do take a hell of beating, don't they?

And regarding "You brain makes it real", I guess there is alot of blood floating around in the energy-sucking-pods of the matrix.

On the subject of security guards, I've never understood the logic in movies of "There's a shift change at midnight, we'll attack then".

Wouldn't there be MORE guards during a shift change?

Or are they a load of "jobsworths"? when their shift is over they bog off and hope their replacement is on the way.

Yeah I reckon you are right there... less people because there is a time gap between the replacement staff and the staff leaving...

The second time I watched the movie (let me geek-out really quick. I watched it twice the day it opened then went home and played ETM)
I THOUGHT that the code in the beguining kinda looks like Zion.
My friend told me it looks like the INTERNAL part of a mechanical clock, but if you look closely it kinda looks like a center shaft and lots of connections to it coming fom the other edges of what looks like the cylindrical shape of Zion.

Yeah, it's the internal parts of the "clocking in" machine for the security shift change, but I can see where you're coming from... Laughing

REMEMBER that Trinity is the only one who fights the Security guards in great numbers.

The Vigilants crew probaly snuck in while the guards were going to CLOCK OUT before the new shift starts. (you see them in security camera while two security men argue about counting sheep at work.

See its not good to count sheep at work..is it?
and the code...reminds me of the internal workings of a clock too.
