In the fight scene in the Merovingian's palace, Neo is fighting all of his guards. One of the henchmen swings a sword at Neo, who stops it with his hand. We see blood dripping on the floor and Merovingian says, "You see, he's only human." I assume this is because he saw the blood. If that is true then agents, the keymaker, and other programs must also be human because they bleed also. An agent is cut in the face by Morpheus's sword on top of the semi. The keymaker is shot by a bunch of smiths and bleeds. Did Merovingian say this for another reason then? Please un-confuse me.

Hmm, that's a good point, actually.

It could just be a figure of speech - he might have said that because Neo looked so invincible at the beginning of that battle when none of them could even touch him. The blood just being Merovingian's reasurance that he wasn't some fabled phenomenon - that they could infact defeat him.

The bleeding of the other programs are most likely just the machines attempt to model everything in The Matrix after the actual human existence.

Hope that made sense. It makes sense in my head, but I'll try to make my theory more clear, if you want.

The matrix is based upon rules, from the time period it is set in (1999). Thus anything in the Matrix is bound by those rules (Except Neo (and Smith)and people who can bend rules e.g Morpheus and Agents blah blah blah). If a program is based on a human, then if it is shot - it must bleed its the rules.

Don't worry about it...

I wouldn't read too much into this one.

Merrovigian really was only in the movie to create complications for the humans and nothing more. With all the hoop-la about Merovigian - was he a former one?, is he a human? - the truth is, his role in the movie was not led to be signifacant. All Merovigian has to do with the script is that he's a rouge program or whatever that has pieces of the puzzel that is the matrix.Don't look to far into Merovigian's purpose like many of the people have done with several question which can not and will not be awnsered.

I am not sure if that comment work now that you metnion it... all involved in the fight were using their residual selves so that did not matter...

chalk that up as a faux pas

acutally I think that the Merovingian had great siginificance as he was an independant renegage program and he helped to explain the social structure of the Matrix

it is OK to ask questions... even if there is no answer
