Did Neo destroy the Smith virus or did the machines help him

In my opinion, Neo wasn't ready for the showdown with the Smith virus. When Smith started talking in the Oracle voice, I think Neo relized that he was not going to beat Smith. When he relized what Smith was saying, that is when he realized that, "...it is enevitable." So the machines helped him destroy the virus. The machines have plenty of power as you have seen when the machines rebooted the drill during the battle to save Zion. I think the machines were tired of having wars and the machines wanted to help Neo destroy the virus. The only thing I don't understand is, how come jsut by destroying the virus, it brought peace between humans and machines again? Let me get your feedback on this topic.

1 + -1 = 0

1 (the one)
-1 (smith, neos negative)
0 (nothing, both gone)

when they combined is the only time that smith could be stopped. unless there was someone who could destroy all these copies 1 by 1, and there wan't. smith, when done with the matrix, was going to spread to 01, destroying the machines as well as all the humans. neo didn't just get jacked in at his head, like when they enter the matrix from their ships, the machines jacked in every hole in his body. this is so a total merging could take place, and at said time, they killed neo. yes, thats right, killed. neo is dead. smith knew what was going to happen because of his gift from the oracle, knew he was going to copy onto neo. but he didn't know what that would do because no one can see past a choice they don't understand. the reason it ended the war is because neo made a deal with the machine god because he had bargaining power, he could help them stop smith, and without that teamwork he couldn't be stopped. the oracle said, i'm interested in the future, and the only way to get there is together. so neo said, basicly, i'll help save us (man and machine) if you end the war, make peace, stop attacking.

on a side note, no one that i've seen has mentioned the city at the end, off in the distance when they're in the park. it looked futuristic. i think that when sati pointed out, and they showed that scene, she wasn't talking about the sunrise, but the new matrix city that was put up after it reloading. i did only see revolutions once, but i remember it clearly. i think it has significance. it will show the people that this isn't real, you wake up the next day in a new world, you have to believe that something is amiss. and this, i think will lead to the announcement of what the matrix is to the people in it, and the actual choice to stay or go. giving sati purpose.

When you try to reason out what is imbalanced before the final encounter, before Smith went haywire, and what exactly is balanced when they merge, things don't make much sense. For example, they are opposites, but when put together they balance the matrix. If they are opposites, the Matrix would already be balanced in the first place.

I think it's a lot simpler than what we make it out to be. Smith says that he suspects a trick, or a trap. He's right (he's always right Wink. The architect said that he needs the prime program to reset the matrix. Neo giving up his prime code wouldn't help matters- the matrix could be reset and smith would go right on copying. They needed to dupe Smith into giving up his prime program, and Neo is the proverbial bait. So, Neo hooks up to the source by going to the machine world, and he confronts Smith, knowing that it is inevitable (Smith cloning Neo). Smith realizes what he is getting into, but because the Oracle herself did not understand why Neo gets up and chooses to die, Smith can not bring himself past his purpose (to replicate and destroy). Hence, Smith copies into Neo, and the machine source has the prime program within the physical body of Neo. Game over.
