I was welcoming Moongoat and was still a bit buzzed from Reading. But this is relevant, right AZ?

D1, I think you sum it up well. Obviously it is about the reception of 'truth' though cleverly Zion is an embodiment of whatever truth you think it should be. The problem that gets resolved in the end of M3 is that the truth has conflicting consequences for the humans and the machines. This conflict needed to be resolved. (Just explaining how scepticism of 'reality' does not conflict with your interpretation in that last post)

Im writing a story in which the entire thing is just a chess game played with Jesus and the Buddha. I liked this idea, but I wanted to know what it meant. I originally thought that it would be how human beings have no choice, but choice had been done to death by The matrix movies.

I now think it will be about how Human Beings have choice, but they don't have power

Oracle:You're not here to make a choice. You've allready made it. you're here to understand it.

Neo( Architect's Room ): It's all about choice.

I think so. It's all about chioce

I think if there was no love between neo and trinity, he would chose the right door to the source. So said the Architect.

Maybe it's love because the choice Neo made was the consequence of love

I think the trilogy has to do with change. Changing the matrix. Changing the state of the world. Changing the views of those people that haven't been unplugged. Changing Neo's mind in making him believe he is the One. Along with change I think you can also say one word the trilogy has to do with is believing (as discussed by many others in other threads.)

Revolution is the birth of equality and the antithesis to oppression...

we made them, they made smith, neo and smith combine (imprinted code) into an evolved synthesis who will destroy its pregenators. this movie is about irony

Neo: You were right, Smith. You were always right. It was inevitable.

You’ll either wake up and discover the path of "Neo" who wrought your salvation (i.e. freedom from the Matrix) or face Nemesis yourself.

It IS Inevitable.

You should add 'Control' to the options. That is what the entire series is about, Control.

It's hard to sum up the trilogy in one word so I'll take a chance and say that the trilogy is about choice, control, faith, love, and destiny. That's not one word but you cannot describe the Matrix in one word.

The most consistent theme throughout the movie is sacrifice.

In M1 Morpheus sacrificed his life for Neo when they were all in the walls. Neo sacrificed his life for Morpheus when he jumped out of the helicopter when Morpheus couldn't make the jump from the building. Neo and Trinity both sacrificed themselves by simply going into the Matrix to save Morpheus.

And of course you know the ultimate sacrifice in Revolutions where Neo ends up dying for humankind's sin so they could all float on again, just as Modest mouse sings "AND WE'LL ALL FLOAT ON AGAIN"

Wouldn't "Truth" be the same as "all of the above"? It seems like that ecompasses all of the themes.

I think the whole thing is just about the trials and tribulations that come with being "Only human."

well i gotta go with the answer of choice and no destiny. if you can choose ur path then its choice. but then again what if God is making you think this and making it a destiny for you to think about this....BLAH!...i think its an impossible question to answer. its actually your CHOICE of what you think the point of the trilogy is.

hmm. The movies tried to give the impression that everything was eventually down to choice, this was portrayed through all 3 films especially with the oracles comments.

HOWEVER if we are to understand the entire build up and destruction of Zion had happened 6 times before and that in reality it was a loop that was caused of glitches and problems within the computer system (which there always will be) This meant that the human crops over thousands of years ended up in the same situation over and over with the same outcome without knowing it.

Well then the films were then based on Inevitability

The Matrix is really Terminator 3

The Matrix is really Terminator 3 - its what might happen 200 years down the line when the machines start to win the war.

Of course its much better than T2 (lets not even bother with the actual T3).

The Matrix plot is full of holes & has loads of loose ends which don't stand up to close scrutiny, but nevertheless works well because (in my opinion) the viewer is in a similar position to Neo - our realisation of what is going on corresponds to his realisation of what is going on. The movie is also filled with great set pieces, scenes & dialogue, and great characters - and the pacing is great too.

M2 & M3 are simply about Hollywood cashing in a successfull movie, by suckering all you pseudo-philosophers. Which is a shame because I thought they could have done so much better.

I think it's all about enlightenment. The attainment of enlightenment.

It's also about chaos. How one person causes a chain reaction of events that can change things dramatically just from a simple choice.

But, if I had to choose one word, I'd pick enlightenment.

i forgot what i voted for, since there are so many answers....but now that i think about it im really starting to side with Inevitability.

Is is inevitable that a One will emerge, inevitable that he will be tested greatly, inevitable that he will meet with the Articect(SP), inevitable that he will return to the Source, inevitable that Zion will be under attack, and inevitable that the One will die.

I challenge someone to put more inevitables in a single post. Whitelaugh

Why love?
well, neo wouldn't be the one if theres no love, remember morpheus got kidnapped by smith, if theres no love and team-work by neo and trinity, morpheus wouldn't be saved!&the kiss! the kiss that trinity give to neo by the end part of the matrix, neo wouldn't be able to make it, if he wasn't kissed by trinity. Oh the matrix revolution! Zion wouldn't be saved if theres no neo and trinity they sacrifice themselves just to saved Zion!It is also called LOVE isn't it? So, i'll go for LOVE, actually, everything is all part of movie, choice purpose, ect... but without LOVE everything will be incomplete or meaningless!
