I thought I might make a thread that dealt specifically with the Animatrix films, because a lot of them are a bit confusing, especially to those who haven't really watched a lot of anime.

In particular, I find "Matriculated" to be a bit confusing. Exactly what was going on in there? You know, with the plugging the machine in and walking around that weirdo Tron virtual reality world? Could someone maybe explain for me?

they jacked the bot into the virtual world, they played with him in a game of tag. the reason of this vr game was to kill the 'machine' part of him that wanted to kill them, which they did, and put on a more human shell. now he noticed he looked like them and was attacked in a nightmarish scene by machine looking things and the humans saved him, so now he associates with the humans and fears the machines.

the whole reason is to get him to fight for them, they did that with the other machines they caught, except at the end this humanized machine is the only one that didn't die in the attack, he is now not a part of anything. he is not with the machines and he is not with the humans. he is a lonely and sad little robot.

the vr world was pretty trippy

I finally got to watch the Animatrix, but it was 4am at a Goth nightclub on a large screen with subtitles. I was too wiped to do anything other than just stare at the screen, which might be a good way to view it.
