The meaning (if any) of the three male-female relationships

I am facinated by the three romantic couples portrayed in ReLoaded and Revolutions: i.e., Neo & Trinity, The Merovingian & Persephone, and Link & Zee. Although Neo & Trinity are suppose to be so "in love," why is it that they seem so mechanical--so cold and sterile? The audience really doesn't feel any sort of passion from them, just a lot of talk of "love." Even the death of Trinity was difficult to watch, not because viewers felt so connected to her, but because they felt so disconnected from her. That whole scene was like watching two machine go through the motions of having emotions. Bad acting or a plot device?

The opposite of this relationship is The Morevingian & Persephone. I realize that these two are programs (as may be Neo & Trinity), but even still they seem to have a humanlike obsession with hedonism. They are all about physical appetites and pleasures--sex, food, decadence. They are corrupt where Neo & Trinity are sterile.

Finally, there is the relationship of Link & Zee, whom I think we all can agree are definately humans and, indeed, they do behave the most like a normal human couple. They have a full range of emotional displays. When Zee risks her life as a volunteer to help save Zion, we believe in her love for Link. We feel their connection. The emotional charge conveyed in the interactions (hugs, kisses) between Link & Zee is exactly what is lacking between interactions between Neo & Trinity.

Question: Perhaps The Morevingian was once a "One" and his program was too easily corrupted by human decadence, thus he strayed from his Pupose and became an exile. Perhaps the Architech altered the "One" program when programming Neo and added a "love" routine. Is that why his interactions with Trinity only seem to mimic true feelings of love?

I saw it exactly the opposite. I loved all of the matrix and after reading the replies on this board put alot of the things that I thought "lousy" into perspective and showed me the meaning. Ive been forced to watch many love story movies by my wife and found Neo and Trinity's to be particulary fascinating, emotional and true. Again this is just my opinion but I look at the 3 movies and see a masterpiece of a trilogy. Mainly because of all of the different types of movie themes rolled into one story. To me there love seemed true and sincere and not "mechanical".

I found that Neo & Trinity's love seemed more natural when they were not inside the Matrix...
I know exactly what mannekinpis meant by 'mechanical', and maybe that had something to do with the way that their programs dictated their behaviour - to a certain degree.... Cool

MECHANICAL?
I am not going to agree with that...Neo might not be the most outgoing hero, but really how many times can you scrump on a hovercraft without everyone hearing you. I think they were very much in love, but couldn't show it as much as link an zee because of their situation. But, when they did show it...they kissed better than anyone in that movie. Plus, kissing Carrie Anne Mosse could never seem Mechanical...lol.
Anyway!...what about The Morpheous, Niobe, Jason love triangle? No mention of that?
What about the Oracle and Seraph? That is the real question...was he really just her body guard? I mean c'mon, you just don't get to glow like that without gettin' some from the Oracle.

I think you may be confusing SEX and LOVE... they are part of the same thing but you don't need to have SEX with someone to show how much you love them....

I am a man another smith...so you can put HE from now on. Anyway...yeah...wasn't getting that deep. I just wanted to say "scrump on a hovercraft". I think however, you still have to admit, there were plenty of times during the movies where you could really feel the love the two had for each other. They guessed each other's thoughts, they would give anything for each other...etc..I could go on. The passion for each other was there, however, not every couple shows emotions in the same way. Some couples fight a lot, some scrump a lot, some are well-balanced, some don't talk to each other, some have hobbies that they do together, some are very independent, some are very dependent, etc.

AHHH...this post is getting boring and I am going nowhere with it...all I really wanted to accomplish here is to say that I am a GUY and I know what love is.

LOVE IS SCRUMPING ON A HOVERCRAFT WHEN YOU ARE OFF TO 01 TO DIE FOR WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN WITH THE ONLY PERSON YOU WANT BY YOUR SIDE.

...and take scrumping anyway you want...for all you know I could be talking about cuddling or playing monopoly.

I was under the impression that Neo, like all the one's, were Anomaly's rather than programs, created by the Architect.

Also, if the Merovingian was a One, and went by himself before completing his purpose, Zion wouldn't exist. The only way He could be a previous One, and Zion still existed, is if he fulfilled his purpose, which was to return to the source. In which case, there is nothing wrong with the program (if they were actually programs, which The One is not).

You were right, Smith. You were always right.

I'd just like to comment that I agree 100% that Neo and Trinity lacked on-screen chemistry and looked almost "mechanical" or at least "emotionless." However, I've seen several Keanu Reaves movies (very unfortunately) and I saw Carrie-Ann Moss in "Red Planet" and I believe that this is just their acting styles. Remember, the trilogy was not really thought out in creating the first movie. In fact, I do believe Reaves and Moss were cast because of their flat acting in order to create a mechanical/computer program type feel in the first movie. However, in the next two movies, when they needed to act more "human", they didn't have the acting capacity to pull it off. I've read lots of comments about the good acting in the matrix trilogy, but I thought the movies were good, despite the acting.
