The Matrix was definitely a cut above all the crap sci-fi movies that have been coming out in recent years, but a little too hollywood to be considered true sci-fi...

It's somewhere up around 7/10ths for me.

Big Time Movies Worse than Matrix:

1. The Bicentennial Man - great book... too bad they completely fucked it up with Hollywood romance.

2. Star Wars Episodes I & II - No one disagree, okay?

3. Starship Troopers - I was expecting cool power armor, intelligent aliens (they are in the book) and a deep and meaningful discourse on the state of civil society and the meaning of war, and all I got was stupid kids running around with guns, mindless bugs, and coed showers. (Like the showers, though)

4. Mars movies - what mars movies?

5. Event Horizon - puh-leeze... a dimension of pure evil... woooo... I'm so scared.

6. Total Recall - another Philip K. Dick movie... like Blade Runner... but every time you put Arnold in something, you're writing bullsh*t in capital letters across the screen.

7. Sixth Day - same thing... bullsh*t

8. Contact - I love Jodie Foster. I loved the book. The movie took and wasted both of them.

9. Lawnmower Man - get real... it's a f*cking horror movie.

10.

Sci-fi Movies better than the Matrix.

1. 2001 - too bad 2010 was a drag... 2063 coulda been a great movie.

2. Blade Runner - not so much better... but stylish, and filled with a lot of good philosophy.

3. AI / Close Encounters / anything else by Spielberg - more human story... Spielberg has a problem sometimes picking actors who aren't blocks of wood, but when he gets good ones, he can make magic.

4. Dark City - still debating with myself over this... but it's definitely more satisfying than the Matrix sequels... and you don't have to watch over six hours of film to see the end.

There are other films at par with the Matrix... but none so wide reaching and ambitious.

Sure, it's pretentious, over-the-top, and silly at times... but it's pretty good compared to most others. Whitelaugh

can't say that it's the best in fiction ... that's where stephen king comes in and puts everything in their little corners.

the matrix is good for inducing philosophical thoughts and sharing them with others. it is well done and the story is good. however, it needs a lot more closure at the end as to what happens next OR what is really going on. so many theories that are irrefutable unless the bros actually state their intentions.

rating: 8.5/10 Neutral

Good.

Extended version:
I like lots of other sci-fi-ish movies. But none of them pull me back in to watch over and over again like this series. Based on that, I'd have to say it's tops in my book. The closure is much better than average as well (no, there shouldn't be a Matrix 4).

May actually happen...

The only reason for creating M4 may include:
- better explanations of Neo
- what is going on in the real world AWAY from zion and 01...is it a barren wasteland ... are there real human civilizations out there (on Earth or otherwise) that survived
- who is really in control (I may be one of the few that believes that the machines are not operating on free will)

I wouldn't mind more closure.

Overall, the Matrix trillogy wasn't too shabby.
It had:
1. Good music
2. Great fight scenes
3. Good use of computer animation
4. A [ok] dialouge and plot
5. Cool and awesome charicters, weapons, all that good stuff

Always the lord of the matrix info. Very Happy Not really, but i do have a website, check it out! Wink

I agree with all the above statements in the quote. Me myself I was never a sci-fi movie fan. Never have saw Starwars didn't hear of Blade Runners til two weeks ago. Didn't see starship troopers or any of the other sci-fi movies. But when I first saw the Matrix something pulled me in maybe the futuristic look and feel to the movie I'm sure the martial arts and gunplay had something to do with it. What I'm getting at is the Matrix in my opinion ranks up there with the best movie of all-time.

As far as trilogy goes theres not another one on the Matrix level. I like the Die Hard trilogy but I hear they're making a fourth. The Matrix made me go insane at one point believing that we were slaves trapped against our will no other movie has made me think as much. And I've never watched a movie as much. This is the movie of my generation. I only watched for the martial arts at first but when 2 & 3 came out I definetly had a different opinion about it. In one word how do I describe the matrix trilogy?

Magnificient!

As a sci-fi fan, I must say that The Matrix truely stands out as the best. I adore everything thing about the whole series (that also includes Revolutions).

That's basically it. It was, over all, good. Matrix 1 was the best (naturally, being all new and exciting), and they kind of went a little down hill from there, but not by much. I agree with niky as to good and bad sci-fi movies. Of course there are more out now that are also pretty cool. For example, I really liked the Pitch Black/Chronicles of Riddick series.

And I say "good" not "awsome" or anything simply because I felt M3 was such a huge anticlimax. Little to no explanations and a final 'boss battle' that could have been so much cooler. But still, pretty good.

The first was excellent, sublime. A triumph only matched by the other two's momunmental failure.
