[Matrix Reloaded] Ballard: "You're asking for one of us to disobey a direct order." Morpheus: "That's right, I am. But we well know that the reason most of us are here is because of our affinity for disobedience."

However, the matrix sequels are undoubtedly original. No one has ever taken the "the world is not real" message in the direction the wachowskis did before. The ending to revolutions is, quite frankly, one of the most unexpected endings to a blockbuster movie I have ever seen. Where is all the sickening happiness? Where are the hobbits jumping on the bed? Where are the dancing eworks? Where is the robot being dropped into the melting pool to stop any of his evil kind being created?
The ending was much more unexpected than that and that is the most original thing about it. The original thing about the first movie was the style and that has been kept up well throughout the trilogy |
if the ENTIRE concept of a movie is NOT original then by definition its NOT original
Last time i checked the sequals of a movie are completly based off the first film.
there NOT completly different.
if that were so, all of a sudden in the movie TERMINATOR we would be watching care bares "staring" them down into acts of kindness.
but we dont.
the sequals of the matrix are completely BASED off the first film.
thats like saying that ewoks are dancing around with robots and hobbits are there jumping around on beds watching the robots and ewoks dancing.
originality is just that ANYTHING that is original.
just because a movie ends happily doesnt mean its a carbon copy of EVERYTHING else.
YOUR argument suggest that because the matrix films went a certain direction with a stolen idea and put their own "SPIN" on it that its completly original.
yes it is. by definition.
however, so is LORD OF THE RINGS and so is STAR WARS and so are the TERMINATOR series.
now if you want to say it ENDED in originality because it left so many things open, then thats not a good argument EITHER.
because TOTAL RECALL did it too.
remember he said "im afraid im about to wake up."- and you NEVER knew whether or not it was him still in the recall simulation.
-whoah, just a TAD bit the same.-
except in total recall, it ended with the bad guys clearly losing. which made for a better film because it answered a WHOLE hellava lot more than the matrix did.
therefore it ended better. (we still knew if quaid was still alive)
if they werent original pieces of work, then there would be lawsuits.
and copyright infringement.
so that arguement is NOT sound at all.
