The Architect created the Matrix. He has problems with some of the people. He creates a smaller Matrix called Zion, where those "program-refusers" think that they are free. (Maybe they are not under direct control of the architect so that they are in a special point of view "free "although captured in a part of the Matrix. That could be the reason, that Zion has to be destroyed by other programs like the sentinels and cannot be switched off).

The Architect wants control over Zion. He creates a program called NEO. The Architect manages it, that Zions citizens find NEO. NEO improves his abilities. Under contact with the Zionists he learns how to alter the matrix codes. He bahaves like a human.

When NEO is powerful enough, he comes back to the Architect. Maybe the Architect wrote NEO with a procedure/function, that would lead him, when powerful enough, back to his roots.

NEO is chosen to give his code (his power and Improvement) to the MainComputer to update the Matrix. Result: A Matrix more efficiant with handeling human beings.

NEO chooses 23 people from the Matrix, Zion will be destroyed, NEOs brain will be deleted, himself and/or the Matrix reloaded, everything starts again.

But this time NEO choses the other door. He is now powerful enough. He saves Trinity and returns to Zion, where he can stop the sentinels, because it is just another Matrix (as written before). So NEO improves his abilities even in this „Zion-Matrix“.

On the other hand there is Smith. An „evil“ program, created to destroy. He found out how to escape the architects direct control and how to copy himself = how to become more powerful.

My theory: The architect is a machine. Machines are not good or evil: they work (Terminator 1, hehe).

He creates 2 programs, one nice one (NEO) and an evil version (Smith). When they are powerful enough, there will be a showdown (Trailer Matrix revolutins: „It ends tonight“). What for? The architect wants to see, who is stronger: the bright or the dark side, the good or the evil.

ACTUALLY!!! irrevocably if you look it up is something thats final, plain, obvious, like he is plain stupid. Look it up he says he remains plain human even though they screwed with him, by making him "the one", "Although the process(Anomaly thing) has altered your conciusness you remain irrevocably human", see He is human. Zion is though probably a certain control, but not of a programming, you know. Like well for instence Zion could mean Zero 1, And thats were the machines fled to, if u have seen animatrix. So maybe the humans are machines(TANK) (DOZER) ETC..., AND the architect thought well maybe if they do manage to be free it wont actually be free still controlled by machines, just without knowing it, but that is just a theory.
