Why Matrix Answers All Questions!

I've been reading all these forums and none of you really got the point of the Matrix Revolution... Although there are some good theories out there, there is only one connection you have to make to understand what is going on Smile. At the end, all of the characters are important... but none are as important to understand then the Oracle.

Here is how EVERYTHING makes sense, and how ALL important questions are answered:

(1) Oracle and only the Oracle created Smith (hence why she calls him a "Bastard" and why he calls her "mother").

(2) She created Smith to become who he is and to multiply uncontrollably when the "One" arrives (that is what he was programmed to do...).

(3) She does this so that the Machines need Neo and a chance for peace in Zion can occur (If there is no Smith, then the machines do not need Neo to defeat Smith... and hence no peace can happen)

(4) She "shows" Smith that he wins (when he takes her over), so that he will ultimately lose... Remember that the Oracle only tells you what you need to know Smile. Smith needed to know he would win, so at the end what really must occur does...

(5) This has happened many times before, but the previous times have yielded failure... Oracle know everything that has happened so far because it has happened before... In the previous times, the "One" did not choose to go to the Machine City... that is why at the end of the movie, the Oracle nor the Architect knows how long the peace will last... because peace has never happened.

That is the juxtaposition of the Oracle... she knows what is evident but has faith that what will happen can change... (so fate necessarily isn't fate).

Is Zion real or not? At the end it does not matter Smile. What is real is what is real to you! Zion is real to those that live in Zion, like the Matrix is real to those that live in the Matrix...

If you have any other questions, just post them...

I really hope this answers most of your questions... That is why in interviews, Reeves states that people will be relieved (because they will have answers)... and the questions that arise, such as "is Zion real", aren't really that annoying...

Flaws:

1. The Oracle, if she is responsible for Smith's creation, may simply be responsible for the introduction of Agents into the Matrix. Smith, being a former Agent thus calls her mother.

2. It is also possible that The One was created as the last line of defense in case something like Smith ever comes out.

3. There are much better ways to go about it. Although we do hear "You play a dangerous game" addressed at the Oracle by the Creator, that phrase may mean the opposite - creating Neo and giving him super powers, knowing that he might turn them against the Matrix.

4. Another explanation is the fact that the Oracle simply projected whatever she wanted and since Smith could not see past the choice he could not understand ("Why do you do it? Why do you keep getting up?... etc." - Smith asking Neo in the end) he accepted the 'fake' version of events projected by the Oracle. This is somewhat obvious and does not explain anything except the Oracle's move to allow Smith to overtake her.

5. I do agree with the fact that previously peace did not start, hence the not knowing of it's duration. I also agree that previously, Neo's character did not choose the door on his left. This leads me to think that since it was all about choice, the machines needed Neo to make the choice and thus introduced 3nity this time around. Her purpose was to last long enough to give Neo enough for him to choose the right doot. She dies at exactly the right moment - before Neo is about to sacrafice his own life. Think about it. She could not have survived as that would mean that chances of Neo giving up his own life would decrease, but she does die, pushing Neo towards his own death for the cause. 3nity, as Neo himself is an anomaly, designed to stimulate choice and eforce Neo's character. She contained code, just like Neo and served her purpose. She jump-started him (through the mouth! - upgrades!) when she had to, she assisted Neo along the way, she brought him out of the coma, she gave him reason to continue and in the end, gave him reason to die.

Those aren't flaws Smile, mere opinions:

Here is why we know that Smith is created solely by the Oracle... He calls her "Mother" and she calls him "Bastard" (as an inside joke as well as to get the point across...), meaning that he has no father... She creates him as a program without choice... he just knows to multiply and does not know why... at the end Smith just wants his job to end...

Also remember that Neo is a "Christ" figure... Neo knows he will die, and he is certain he will defeat Smith... the choice comes in do I want to die to save humanity...

Watch the movie a second time... it will help you understand a little better...

Watch again, with what i posted, and then comment

Also, for future notice... Please really think about what I wrote before writing responses... I can tell you answers to alot of questions... but they will answer themselves with what i have posted, if you really think about it...

Things like "Is Zion Real?" is a philosophical question that can only be guessed on... But the plot of the story is pretty clear...

Your explanation of Smith calling the Oracle 'Mother' and her calling him 'Bastard' does not address the issue of him being he creation, just like you posted, but at the same time not having anything to do with his Virus-abilitied. She created him, may be true, just like she created all the other Agents. Remember the conversation in the park and the long explanation of governing programs? Oracle created the Agents as governing programs and Smith was one of them. She may have had nothing to do with his Virus-state and so far you have not shown me any proof of it. What comes to mind, without reaching far, is the following: Oracle is the mother of all Agents. Agents were required to keep watch over other programs and human minds. Smith was a simple Agent. Upon contact with Neo (end of M1), Smith exchanged code with Neo and as a result was altered. His simply programming could not cope with the new code and went ballistic, producing the Smith we now know. The Oracle calls him 'Bastard', but she may be calling other Agents the same way for all we know, just like they are calling her 'Mother'.

I like your take on everything. A lot of stuff I didn't catch. Another thing that I thought about the end...

Neo knows that if he dies, so does Agent Smith. Since Smith is his "opposite" as the Oracle indicated to him in their last discussion, with him gone, there is nothing for him to oppose so his purpose is eliminated.

Just a thought

Neo is played like a pawn. He is guided throughout the story, not understanding what he must do. All events around him make it look like he is making the choices, but he is not. REMEMBER: Choice is an illusion! That is the theme that keeps following us. Neo's fate was known a long time ago. previously his last choice resulted in failiure and this time, they gave him 3nity to make sure he follows his emotion. That is why the Creator was speaking in that tone. He found it pathetic and so predictable. Neo thought he made a choice, but it was made for him. When they killed 3nity, it was because she was no longer needed. Now they needed Neo to loose everything he had in his life, except his friends at Zion. So what was his choice then? Was it a choice at all? Once again - no, he was to kill Smith and die doing it, just like it was meant to be.

Oracle created Smith (Everyone agrees).

Oracle created Smith with no one else (hence the "Bastard" comment).

Smith has no idea why he is multiplying (please remember that viruses are WRITTEN... not INFECTED... certain events trigger viruses like opening your email... in this case Smith meeting the "One").

That is why this answers "Why Smith is Created" and "Why he duplicates..." because he is a virus that is WRITTEN. He did not start to duplicate himself until he came in contact (literally) with the "One".

Smith has a purpose, like the "One" has a purpose... Smith's purpose is to multiply so that the "One" can save mankind (which is the "One's" purpose)... Without Smith, the One cannot save Zion from the machines... Smith is required for the One to fulfill his/its purpose...

Everything has a purpose in the movie... each line has a purpose...

I hope this convinces you...

Yes... Smith might have known that he was going to die... but he didn't know how (he is surprised when it occurrs!)...

In response to the prophet:

Does the One have a choice?

Yes. That is why the Architect and Oracle do not know what will happen in the future (How Long will the peace last?) (As long as it can), because of his/its (One's) choice...

However... this is more of a philosophical question, so I'd rather it leave it at that (do we all really have free will... what is free will... are things predetermined... if so do we still have free will... etc. etc.)

One correction, as a programmer, i can tell you that a melicious program is not always designed and programmed to be that way. Some times careless coding and mistakes lead to trouble. We all can agree that code can be downloaded into anyone and anything in the Matrix. Just like Neo's code was inserted into his mind, that code, once Neo came in contact with Smith, was in part inserted into Smith. I do not think that Smith was designed as a virus. If the idea here is that Smith was designed as a virus so that Neo could trade himself for the destruction of the virus, thus saving mankind - that idea is a bit over-played. It would be much simpler to just design The One, have him multiply and take over the Matrix and then have him, himself, negotiate with the machines, wouldnt you agree? Why even have Smith? I think Smith is an accident, in fact, he is an unpredictable accident (even the Machines could not deal with him) and this he has a touch of 'unpredictability' with that touch resulting from contact with the anomaly.

shidoshi100, they do not know the future for one reason and one reason alone (as the Oracle stated) - they do not understand the choice. While they know that Neo will make the choice of saving his love, they do not understand it (obvious from the Creators words). They do not know the future not because they do not know the choice Neo will make, but because they do not know why.

It is repeated over and over and over. The question is why. One can not see beyond the choice he can not understand, not beyond the choice which is unknown. Everything is calculated and Neo's choice was too, but the reason he makes that choice is unknown and that is why the future is too. The Oracle, Merv, the Creator, everyone, even Neo himself keep repeating this. The question of 'Why' is the most important question of all! It is for this reason that the Creator starts by saying that the first question is the most important question of all, but also states that it makes no difference. Why? Because although the choice is unexplained, it is well known.

This is the idea behind the whole Matrix story. The question of 'Why'. Why do we make the choices we do? Many times, logic tells us to make one choice, but we are making another simply because we are in love or are in a specific mood or something else. What guides us? What is there beyond calculation, beyond rational thinking?

As a programmer myself (GE) Smile... I've explained the situation clear enough... Programs do what they should... unless the purpose of the program is changed... I keep using the word purpose to clear things for you...

Please tell me Prophet if you agree or disagree with following:

Smith does not multiply until he meets Neo.
So Neo is necessary for Smith to multiply.
Smith is necessary for Neo to save Zion (Smith is necessary for Machines to need Neo).
Smith is terminated once the purpose has been met for him (to save Zion)
Neo is terminated once the purpose has been met for him (to save Zion)

I guess it depends on if you think the movie has any purpose or if it is chaotic and there is no purpose Smile.

As a programmer, you should know that all programs have a purpose... and just like you said... once that purpose is complete... you don't need the program unless the same purpose is needed again Smile.

Does Neo, Oracle, Architect, Smith, Machines... etc. all have purpose? I incline to think so...

Smith does not multiply until he meets Neo. - Agree

So Neo is necessary for Smith to multiply.

- Do not Agree. Although Smisth started acting up even before Neo was 'freed' (his talks of having to get out of the Matrix), i simply think Neo was a trigger, but i do not think that Smith was designed that way. He is the mistake that the Machines were anticipating. I can go as far as to agree with you that the mistake was intentional and that someone coded it into Smith, but i can not agree that it was done to bring out the 'God' in Neo. It may have been done to destroy the Matrix, etc. I think that there could be 2 forces at play here. One, the Machines, coded Neo to be the last line of defense and another force coded Smith to destroy the Matrix. I do not think Smith was designed for Neo through...

Smith is necessary for Neo to save Zion (Smith is necessary for Machines to need Neo).

- Do not Agree. Neo, having enough power, could have started to destroy the Matrix himself and then negotiated with the Machines.

Smith is terminated once the purpose has been met for him (to save Zion) - do not Agree. He is terminated because that had to happen given the script.

Neo is terminated once the purpose has been met for him (to save Zion)

- Agree, but his purpose was to protect the Matrix and not save Zion.

As a programmer, you should know that all programs have a purpose... and just like you said... once that purpose is complete... you don't need the program unless the same purpose is needed again Smile.

- I agree, but i also know that your computer houses many programs written by separate sources and (Windows mostly) the software sometimes conflicts with one program killing another, etc.

Does Neo, Oracle, Architect, Smith, Machines... etc. all have purpose?

Yes, i think Neo's purpose is to protect the Matrix and the human minds in it. Smith is an accident. His purpose as an Agent was defined until he started changing. That change, or rather the possibility of things going ascew is why Neo was designed in the first place.

All in all, you do have some interesting points and i think if we explore these ideas a bit further, we can come up with something interesting... Let me ask you this: Do you think the Machines were set on destroying the humans at all? Do you think that the Machines needed the humans as a source of energy at all? If the answer is no, why did the Machines keep the humans in the Matrix and why did they attack Zion?

Prophet

I also think that all previous attempts to destroy Zion were not attempts to destroy it at all. The plan was peace. The Machines did not start the war and they did not want it either. They had plenty of energy above the skies. They kept the Matrix running in hopes that some day the humans could realize that there can be peace. They needed Neo to be the protector and the connection between him and the humans. All the hostility of the Machines is explained by their fear. Did you see the firepower guarding Machine city? For what? All that to keep out a group of Zion residents? I dont think so.

Tell me this: If noone was there when Neo and the Machines made the deal and if the Machines did not give any idication that we know of that they would follow through on the deal, if they wanted Neo dead and gone and he was not on their side and if they wanted to destroy Zion, then...

Why do they lay Neo down with such care when he 'dies'? Why do they stop the attack on Zion? Why do they so carefully carry Neo out (unknown location)? They had what they wanted - Smith gone, Neo out, why not now destroy Zion and get it over with? The answer is simple - that was not the plan. The plan was to unite. At the end, those humans that wish to, will be set free and disconnected from the Matrix. The Creator and the Oracle want peace and so do the Machines. They do not know how long peace will last for one reason yet again - they do not understand the choices humans make. They want peace, but they do not know when the humans will decide to wage war again.

What do you think?

How does the Oracle know (and she does) that Smith is coming after her... but not know that Neo will save Zion?

Simple: Smith has done this before in the previous iterations... Neo has never saved Zion... Oracle can see what has happened as the future, but not what happens outside of the loop (from the 1st "One" to the 5th "One").

Do the machines need people for energy... in Zion they do... but what is Zion? Real... not real? In either case, they do... hence the peace can last only so long...

Oh, by the way, i agree with you that answers were given, its just that the answeres could have been a bit more interesting as well as the story. I am all for re-making the Matrix (Matrix 4 - The Awakening).

Dont get me wrong, my point is not to say i am right and you are wrong. My point is to try, through the exchange of ideas, figure out what exactly the given asnwers are and if i am wrong here and there or even completely, so be it.

True, she does not see, i am not arguing with you. I was just saying that she knows that Neo will pick the left door this time and so does the Creator (and previously he always picked the other door), but they do not know why and can not see beyond that.

Why? There is plenty of solar energy. Why did the movie show us the view above the clouds? As hope for future peace? Possible, but also maybe it was to show us that the Machines only need the Matrix to contain the humans and no great benefit is extracted. The humand are wrong in thinking they are slaves. They are simply protected from themselves, etc.

I do agree with both points mentioned above... I was just frustrated because people seemed to have missed the point that making these connections is why the movie is so good Smile.

People complain that the movie is so bad because they didn't make certain connections Smile... and I think they should think about them before making any comment on the movie... (bad, good, etc...)

I would go through and answer all questions, such as why is the movie called "Revolutions" (shoot me now!) but just don't have that kind of time... hopefully more people will see this link!

I like your points, guys...

One point:

The machines never intend to destroy Zion... every previous Matrix ends with a "purge" that includes the cleansing of Zion. Note: the only opposition humans face inside Zion are the Squiddies, while we see more powerful units in the Machine arsenal guarding their city. The Squids are most effective in that they can kill humans with (hopefully) minimal damage to Zion.

Another:

The Oracle cannot foresee past Neo's decisions: true, but in the case of Smith, hell, even the most jaded of watchers knew he would be coming for her... Smith acts in a predictable manner, Neo does not... (a point echoed in the end... wherein Smith plays out his "script" and forgets his lines! "I'm supposed to stand here... and... I say something...")

Smith doesn't "forget his lines." There are no lines for him to speak.

When Smith has "seen this before," it is because this has happened with the previous "One's"... That is why Smith saw himself win through the Oracle's eyes... The previous One's did not get up...

It is like prophet above stated... although Neo believes he is making a choice throughout the entire movie, there is only one choice he actually makes... and the choice he makes is to get up and keep fighting...

The "One" has always made it to the machine city... Smith is no accident Smile. The "One" has always faught Smith... the only difference is that Neo chooses to get up (this is the real choice... not actually going to the machine city).

(Question: Why do you keep on getting up, you must know that you will lose... Response: Because I choose to...)

If all the other ones fought smith the same way that neo did, how did they get to that point if all the previous ones chose the right door of the arch?
I am not agreeing or disagreeing, i would just like clearification on this point.
