Is bruce wayne batman?
or does he BECOME him when he puts on his cape?

Is clark kent superman?
or does he BECOME him when he puts on his cape?

was PETER PARKER (always) spiderman?
OR did he BECOME him when a spider bit him.

Mr. anderson did not BECOME "NEO" or the one until he died, (hes beginning to believe)
Yes it was his hacker alias.
but he didnt "KNOW THYSELF"

he didnt KNOW or believe it yet.
it took his "near" death experiance for him to realize that he was "the one"

It was then that the "activation" of the one took place.
-(like double clicking an icon on your computer)

sure the program is there but you have to activate it in order to get it to run.

The analogy of Neo's realisation of himself as "the one", is possibly one to that of the life of Jesus... (Was he who he was before he died and was ressurected?) "The Matrix" warps the role of chance from that of decision making to one of destiny. "Choice is an illusion", thus even if Neo made the "choice" to beleive, it was already pre-written in his fate, therefore it was not actually the conscious decision of Neo that triggered the function of "the one", it was "merely a matter of time". Thus if time is the essence of the "One's" existence, it is plausible to say that the function of the one is calculated by a system, a computer, a machine. However, it is Neo's existence outside of the Matrix, in compilation with his unintended infection of Agent Smith, that provided circumstance for Neo to release the machines grip on the humans.

It is evident thus, that Neo's function is a double clause, one, an ability to "manipulate the matrix" at his will (a reincarnation of the previous one's) and two, the fulfillment of the "prophecy" in the real world, with an ability to negotiate peacefully something of an armistice between man and machine, because as "Revolutions" has taught us, one cannot exist without ones opposite, man can no longer live without machine, and perceived good cannot exist without anti-good.

Life is duality, a clashing... enlightenment is a consequence of neutrality, the shedding of good and bad karma (Sound like Neo's role?) and with one final just act, Neo gives his own life, resulting in a force neither light nor dark, neither positive or negative... something us existing organisms have yet to experience... non-existence, the end of all suffering.

*winks at Tom*

The man speaks the truth.

Ultimately, It wasn't Neo's perception that allowed him to "become" the One. That was his nature ever since his emergence. All that occured at the climax of M1 was Neo's coming to grips with his true nature and the powers he has always possessed. He is, after all, the result of an anomaly and has always been this.

true, but it was like a program that was installed on your hardrive (mr. andersons brain) and it took the climax of M1 to activate it.

He always had the potential to use his powers over the matrix. But his mind wasn't ready for it until he `died'. Then he came to terms with it and now he could use his powers.

Hows that?

That's what I'm saying. Neo is the result of the anomaly and has always possessed these powers. But it's only when he dies does he recognise his abilities.
