Why was Neo blind? Why the sky?

I just saw the movie tonight and i thought of a few questions that haven't been posed yet.

1) What was the purpose of Neo being blind? Does it have some deeper reason or meaning? As far as I could tell, he could have done the same actions with the same outcomes if he had his eyesight.

All i can come up with as an answer to this one is a means for him to see the golden code... but what does the golden code symoblize?

2) What's up with the 10 seconds of beautiful sky Trinity sees after she flies straight up through the clouds after entering the Machine City? Where was this and what does it mean?

Thanks... looking foward to hearing you guys' answers.

Neo was blinded by Bane/Smith during their fight, I'm not sure if there was any significance to it at all... The only thing that comes to mind is that Neo was still able to accomplish his purpose even though he was blinded.

They flew up above the 'scorched sky' to evade the sentinels, simple as that...
What does everyone else think or not? Cool

Trinity didn't see anything like the sun before. That means the machines cannot simulate the sun in the matrix as it is.

Since Neo was blinded with Trinity dies the only human to ever see the sun.

When I saw the scene of Trinity dead and Neo being blinded I just started laughing in the theatre because I realized why Neo was blind. They probably shot that scene before they wrote Neo being blind into the script, but Keanu was such a bad actor that they decided to fix it by making Neo blind. All cinema emotion is in the eyes, what better way to make that scene work than taking his eyes out of the shot.

Another Smith said it best...

He's blink because of the fight. Nothing more to it. Remember NEO bringing Trinity back? He can sort-of act when needed.

They avoided the sentinals and went above the skyline and seen the sun. She's never seen the real sun before.

They never say that.

Billions of humans saw the sun before they scorched the sky.

yes billions of people had seen the real sun before, but they're probably all dead now

Trinity says that just because she's never seen the real sun before, in fact that was maybe the first time she's even been on the surface of the earth before

someone said to me they thought it was symbolic because its like she's seeing heaven just before she dies, she sees the most beautiful thing ever and then gets killed, but i think thats a bit far-fetched

I don't know where you people are getting this stuff...here is a transcript from when they go above the clouds to Trinity's death.

{They get past the cloud cover and fly up into the sky}
Trinity: Beautiful.

{They start falling back toward the ground}
Neo: Pump the igniter, the ship will start. Again, slowly. Now!

{The Logos crashes}
Neo: Trin? Trinity? Trinity?
Trinity: I'm here.
Neo: Where?
Trinity: Here.
Neo: We made it.
Trinity: You said we would.
Neo: It's unbelievable, Trin. Lights everywhere. Like the whole thing was built with light. I wish you could see what I see.
Trinity: You've already shown me so much.
Neo: What is it, Trinity? What's wrong?
Trinity: I can't come with you, Neo. I've gone as far as I can.
Neo: Why? Oh, no. Oh no, no, no.
Trinity: It's all right. It's time. I've done all that I could do. Now you have to do the rest. You have to finish it. You have to save Zion.
Neo: I can't. Not without you.
Trinity: Yes, you can. You will. I believe it, I always have.
Neo: Trinity... Trinity. You can't die. You can't. You can't.
Trinity: Yes, I can. You brought me back once, but not this time.
Neo: *sniffs*
Trinity: Do you remember... on that roof after you caught me... the last thing I said to you?
Neo: You said: "I'm sorry."
Trinity: That was my last thought. I wished I had one more chance, to say what really mattered, to say how much I loved you, how grateful I was for every moment I was with you. But by the time [I knew I'd] said what I wanted to, it was too late. But you brought me back. You gave me my wish. One more chance to say what I really wanted to say... Kiss me, once more. Kiss me.
{They kiss, and Trinity dies}
Neo: *sobs*

The Neo being Blind I am not sure if there is any significance there or not? However, after being blinded he seems to find within himself the ability to see things differently. He is Jesus and is no longer seeing things as a Man, but he is seeing the world through the eyes of God.

My wife thinks that the whole Sky thing with the Sun is something that Neo has manufactured for Trinity's sake. Neo now understands what he must do. He knows as Jesus knew that he was going to be crucified. Neo making the sky and the sun for Trinity is his way of showing her that everything is going to be alright. Trinity understands after that who and what Neo is. She is now able to die and knows that Neo is the Messiah and that he will save the world and see her in Heavan.

i think that Neo's blindness is a slight homage to Dune, another book with a messiah figure in a world where humans were once enslaved by machines.

Neo = Paul Maud`dib
world of the Matrix = pre-Butlerian Jihad Dune universe

i think.

This is something that my boyfriend told me but I agree.
Trinity sees the sky, which is above the "city of the machines"īs sky, and that implies that the humans didnīt destroy sky. It was the machines that did it... get it? Waiting for opinions...

In MY opinion, Keanu Reeves IS Neo. Iīm not very experienced in movies, but Matrix has changed my mind about many things. And one thing I can be sure about is that NEO cannot be made by anybody except Keanu Reeves. I agree that heīs not the best actor in the world, but heīs as inexpresive as Neo is. Cool

The black sky was make by the humans. See animatrix.

Also if there are a clear sky, Why the machines still use the humans?

Cause the machines would be destroyed by the electrical energy zapping through the clouds. When the ship flew through the clouds with the machines attached you saw the sentinels lose power and probably were "killed" and the ship lost power.

I feel that Neo accomplishing all that he did 'blindly' makes him even more powerful than before. Think about it. He's the ONE, he can Fly, Dodge Bullets, Leap buildings in a single bound....lol Now he can See without Eyes. Wow, what a hero.

YES! I totally agree...! The fact that Neo can see after being blind makes him more powerfull... and he sees "like fire" and thatīs a symbol of power too.
Congratulations on your theory Chawell!

What if he was blinded because it would make it easier for him to go on even though trinity died... not having to see it. I noticed how each one of the characters had a different "role" to play to make peace... prolly the oracles plan but not sure... trinitys love had kept neo alive several times and im sure not seeing her in pain made it easy for him to do what he had to do.

...So neo begins:
No sunglasses
Sunglasses (knows the Matrix Truth)
No Sunglasses (knows the Architect's truth)
Blind... knows the truth beyond enyone, he sees or feels the world different than anyone before.

You could look at it, and imagine that in order to transcend your social duty and human duty you must look at the world with new eyes, like you would have to lose view of the world, before you search for a new one. Also remember the Buddha closes his eyes to the temptation of lust/attachment, so it blocks Neo's lust or attachment to Trinity making it easy for him to continue, so there's a light connection in that sense.

Possibly, Neo is blinded because Bane shoved an electric cable into his face.

Cynicism aside, I think this is one of the weakest points in the story. Neo's blinded so that he becomes aware of his inner eye. That eye asists him in the use of his powers in the real world. It forces him to look beyond reality again and to see things in a way similiar to how he does in the Matrix.
It suggests his awareness awakens to a new level. It's one of the religious themes in the movie and IMO one of the weakest.

The clear blue sky and sunset. Yet another weak story point. I would be much more efficient and simpler for the machines to erect solar reflectors inside of a tower that clears the cloud lair. The machine city clearly shows they have no lack of raw materials. But, if they did that, there is no use for the Matrix.

It's significant to the story only because it allows Trinity to see a sight that no human has seen for as long as 600 years. A real sun in the real world. You could say it is Trinity's gift for her faith in Neo. That faith and love is an essential point of the plot.

I dont think anyone has mentioned this...

It is quite ironic i suppose because the last human he ever sees is Bain (Smith) and the last thing he sees is Smith copying himself onto him.

*Humans blacken the sky
*Machines emprison humans
*First matrices fail
*New matrices work but who tells the machines how the sun looks like since all humans who saw the sun are dead
*Simulated sun in the matrix is faulty (= greenish hue)
*Trin sees real sun for the first time
*At the end of Revolutions sun shines OK

Conclusion -> Trinity is connected to the machines though in Zion
