Well, 1st of all, you're right... and 2nd of all, you're wrong... heh...

If you remember right, The Matrix was rebooted, if you recall the cat walking, then walking by again... the whole de ja vu thing...

BUT! I believe Neo is still alive... If you recall how Smith lights up, and explodes... didn't that look familiar? Well, I think this time (with the machines' help) he was able to completely delete Smith...

If you were dissatisfied with the ending, consider this... Neo IS still alive, and he can now watch over The Matrix AND the real world... and maintain the peace.

Neo is dead. Every version of Neo which reboots the Matrix likely gives up his life to do so...

Otherwise, we'd have half-a-dozen little Neo Ghost Programs flitting about the Matrix...

But there's so many reasons why this 'One' is different... I mean, the fate of the war was decided, it's not an on-going story anymore because Zion wasn't destroyed...

you have to remember that Zion was never destroyed in any version of the Matrix because Neo ended up being reassimilated with the Matrix every time to reboot the program and begin the next modified version.

He couldn't be any more dead if he was put on a cross. When he cancelled out Smith, all the other versions of Smith was also destroyed. Smith was a virus. His type of virus takes the power and capabilities of the captive program. However, when the Smith virus is removed, the original program was left intact. That is why the Oracle, Sati, Seraph, and presumably everyone else in the Matrix returned to normal. (Neo must have been a pretty good anti-Virus. Wonder if he was McAfee...? ) The Architect hadn't been attached by Smith yet, that's why he showed up as the Big Squidy Face, but I would imagine that Frenchy and all his cohorts were also taken over by Smith.

Whether or not any of us have the plot down cold, it is good to see everyone's interpretation's...maybe not so much the people who completely blow off other theories in favor of their own, but those who build theories off others in order to constructively understand what is going on. After all, the Wachowski Bro.'s intent was to let everyone come up with their own theories.

Do people make comemorative bench plaques that say "In memory of Thomas A. Anderson" for living people?

Hello everyone. Here are the reasons i believe he is alive.
1. At the end of the movie you see his body glowing, with tremendous energy. In the movie, every living organism gave off an energy, even the machines.
2. Everyone who was possessed by Smith was ok afterwards. The oracle, was possessed, and she was still alive, same goes for everyone. Plus, Neo was possessed, and then Smith was kicked directly out of his body when the machines jump started Neo. So he should be alive just like all the others.
3. The little gurl asked the Oracle if they would ever see Neo again, and the Oracle said "i suppose so"
4. When he is lying on the machine motionless, it zooms into his face, and if you look close, his lip moves, like he was breathing.
These are my reasons. Now for a question. What will the machines get their power from now. Solar energy. And, the matrix's programar said that anyone who wanted to be freed could be, so how will people know about the matrix. How will they find out. Plus, will they still be energy slaves. What happens to Zion? Too many questions unanswered, so i will make a cartoon about it. Thankyou

Actually, only machines are shown like that, and only some machines. If it's significant at all, it's probably supposed to be residual from the energy the DEM just pumped into him.

We only see Neo and programs. Neo is gone when his Smith explodes, yet the programs remain.

There are two possibilities:

1 Every human who was connected to the matrix is dead.
2 Neo died, but every other human survived.

2 is a plothole.

I think he is a live because at the end of movie we can see that he was looking at the mashines( he see everything in gold code ).

I would think the latter - it seems obvious that every other human in the Matrix survived. Remember, at the end, the Oracle and Coronel Sanders are talking, and they say more than a few things about "those who want to be freed". This is implying, I assume, that the humans who want to be free from the Matrix will be released - which is a small part of the population (so small, theoretically, that the Machines would not miss them).

Why would that mean Neo is looking at them? There're several scenes that show the gold stuff, with Neo in the shot.

The world has changed, and also the "reality" for everyone: Humans AND machines. Machines now understand a lot more of human emotions, they seam to experiment them this time (the Oracle, Sati). Maybe that "battery thing" was just to confuse us, it could be happening, but i believe that machines are capable enough to find another source of power at this very moment, so i think it is all a charade made by humans in order to find a "purpose" for their fight.
I stick with the idea that we are being defended from our selfes via the Matrix. Humans are unpredictable, machines ain't. The war is over untill humans want it to be over.

Is Neo alive? Yes. As he lays motionless on that hovercraft, the surroundings changed into a third-person view of how Neo saw the Machine City. Everything gold with light shining like the sun. But getting to my point, if you noticed, Neo's body hasn't become dimmer or dark for that matter. This signifies there is still life within him. Further proving this theory is earlier in the movie, Neo kills Bane/Smith with a sledgehammer(?). Right when he kills him, the camera changes into a first person view. Since Neo is blinded from the fight, he only sees programs from the matrix. Bane/Smith gets hit and he shatters into nothingness. So in light of this evidence, Neo's "aura" should have faded into nothing if he did die.

My reading of the film images is that Neo's body is dead. In fact it reminded me of Excalbre how his body is carried slowly off by the machines, just like Arthur's was to the Isle of Avalon.

Neo's body is dead but his being is very much alive and waiting for another reincarnation (if thats what you call it). Just think of the past 5 anomalies, the past 5 Neos. it is impossible for him to have the same body over and over again. His body is dead but his essence still remains and will reappear once the unbalance (man-machine war) is once again present.

The question now is who (actor) would fit the role better than Reeves has done?

truthfully, after seeing the first Matrix movie, i though that either of the Corey's could have been Neo, and the movie would have been the same.

matter of fact, i think Carrot Top could have been Neo and pulled it off.
