well, the spoon that neo was given by the child just as they got onto the ship in reloaded had been bent many times. Oringinally the spoon was in matrix1 and was not part of the real world.

At first I thought the spoon appearing in Reloaded might support the Matrix within a Matrix idea. Now, I think the spoon is the kid's way of giving confidence to Neo. The kid has his powers in the real world as well as in the Virtual world -- so should Neo.

Some people in our real world think people can bend spoons with their mind. Those people's skills apparently coexist, in the movie, in both the matrix and the real world.

It means that Neo is saved by a spoon from Bane's knife.

Well, depends by which dimensions you are talking about. If you are referring to "What does the spoon mean" to the movie, then as knnknn said it is to save Neo from Bane's knife. In the dimensions of the Matrix, assuming that there was no real audience ever watching, well, then I'm not too sure. Perhaps a confidence booster from the Potential that made the Kid give it to Neo, or maybe's it's something much more. I don't know, I'm an idiot with stupid ideas. Ignore me.

also...that spoon wasn't bent a whole lot, it was hammered into shape.

this points me even more in the direction that the Zionites can't make anything too technical.

you know...like capacitors for EMP's.

Reload transcript:
Morpheus: Consider what we have seen, councilor. Consider that in the past 6 months, we have freed more minds than in 6 years.

It is possible that the spoon kid (farm human) was rescued by Morpheus, from the Matrix world just like Neo was , and now resides in Zion. He still remembers Neo...

Like knnknn has stated, the spoon means Neo was saved from Bane.. Nothing more , nothing less..

Do you really think this? Its my opinion that the W. brothers don't leave anything to chance, anything as "filler" or anything that doesn't have another meaining or purpose. I believe that even small parts like the spoon (the spoon is from the child Neo meets in M1 at the Oracles and is used as a reminder and like present or a thankyou etc) or the candy. There is a meaning for everything is these movies because the W. brothers are that smart to think ahead and use something with a hidden meaning. Just my thought, but I don't think such object are there just because they can be, that wouldn't be a W. brothers film.

Rasputin is correct, those items have some hidden meaning and messages to give clues. Some are significant and some are less significant clues to the plot of the story. Most posters in this thread have indicated that the spoon was mean to give Neo confident and believe in himself, because the kid show Neo how to free his mind and bend the spoon in the Matrix world. The kid was later rescued from the Matrix and now he lives in Zion and he thanks Neo by giving him the spoon. That is all, no need to dwell further (All the juice has been squeezed from the orange)

Now to the subject of cookies and candies, there are meanings also. I believe oracle guides Neo via a cookie and candies that Neo ingests. Just like when you browse the internet, certain sites leave cookies in your browser to learn your internet surfing habit.

i believe the kid gave the spoon to neo stating that everything isnt as it seems. the same point he tried to deliver in M1. by giving it to him means that the ral world can possibly have a beauty to it, liek being able to comtrol the energys of the universe or something along those lines. thats why maybe neo was able to see everything moving and functional in the gold color and was able to stop the sentenals, and also control the energy of himself and the sentenial to allow it to pass through him and the ship they were in. just a thought!

Y'know I honestly just took that to be an old beat up spoon. Either it was found somewhere and is an antique from human civilization before the war or it was created in Zion with primitive metal fabricating techniques. I would imagine fine silverware would be really low on Zion's priorities.

I figured it was just the equivalent of the kid just saying Good Luck to Neo.

"A gift from one of the orphans. He made me swear to get it to you before you left. He said you'd understand."

This is obviously the kid from the 1st matrix that told Neo about "there is no spoon".

It is reasonable to assume that he has been freed and is using the spoon to show confidence, or give confidence, to Neo.

p.s Doubting its the orginal spoon from the matrix, beacuse as i understand it nothing can be taken from the matrix (data can be put onto their computers - last transmission of the osirsis & the Oracle's message to Neo in Reloaded), but the rest of the matrix is just a program.

Also If they could somehow recreate objects in the matrix in the "real world", why bother with a spoon...and a crappy one at that. wouldn't it be more benefitical for them to create machine guns, ammunition, grenades, etc etc... instead of spoons?

Amen, insanity and rasputin.

Neo's at a loss when the orphan first tells him "There is no spoon." in the same way he's at a loss when Morpheus jumps from one building to the next. "Free your mind" is the theme. In M1, Neo is tested on levels of mind-over-matter. In M2 and M3, he is tested on levels of mind-over-mind, having to play games of wits and patience with Seraph, the Oracle, Merv, the Architect, and eventually Deus Ex Machina and Smith.

The orphan was possibly reminding him that metaphysical and psychological rules, like the physical "laws inside the matrix, can also be bent or broken.

The spoon was given to Neo to remind him that there is no spoon or in otherwords to Neo there is no matrix.

The spoon was for him to sub consiously contiplate that the matrix did not exsist.

see to Neo there is no matrix for he is part of both world in and out of the matrix remember when there looking for him and they say he look different because from then on he was not seeing a spoon but a coexisting world
