I wrote this as a reply somehwere but I deleted it and made it a topic.

I loved Revolutions. I believe the reason many found it dissipointing (and no offense to those who were dissipointed) was because the film was really over analyzed. Don't get me wrong, I thought the theories created on this site were genius. Many had well thought out theories. And the writer of the MwM theory is a genius for all of the thinking that went into his theory. And yes, it was interesting to think about what could be in revolutions. However, the Wachowski's saw that to be different. Personally, I believe if all of these in depth theories never crossed our minds, many wouldn't be dissipointed. I read the theories, but in reality I really didn't find any of them to be possible (in my opinion). So I wasn't dissipointed with the film. I was very impressed. I understood that many wanted a twist. I just like the idea of the films being consistant with each other. I just believe lot's of the questions that arose in this trilogy are best left unanswered or for that case, do not need to be answered. For example, many questioned who the Merovingian actually was and many wondered the purpose of the leather and sunglasses. Well, it's simple as the Mero was a program and the glasses and leather was what they liked to sport in the matrix. I think it was dissipointing to many because alot of people wrote a completly different story in their minds and when people see a different story without their theories, it's only natural to be dissipointed. I loved revolutions and I will be a fan of this films for a long time to come.

I enjoyed the film as well as the ending, but it may not actually be THE END.

It has the potential of being continued at some point in time via other media outlets. Maybe even another movie(s).

However, even if it doesn't continue on in some way, I could be saticfied with Revolutions ending the way it did.

Here's a better ending...

Neo didn't have to die but instead is merged with the Machine AI. That would make the AI which controls all the machines half-human half-machine. That way, there will be total peace between man and machine since the AI now has compassion for the humans.

and maybe we can teach the stupid machines about geothermal energy, windmills, and dams.

and make all those setinels clean up the damn place!

... and they live happily ever after.

@roborat:

Maybe a feature of The Matrix Online game is the ability to propose actions to execute for the programs. A cloud cleanup project may be voted for.

You also may be able to visit the Merovingian and ask him if he has a clue that his only purpose is a part of a movie/game story. Every player contributing to the artificial persons in the game becoming more intelligent and self aware.

One day we might find that life is better within this matrix game, and will connect ourself to machines who keep us alive while we play the game subconsciously.

They set it up for sequels. That's the first rule in Hollywood...you don't kill a franchise that can potentially make a LOT of money over time. That's why Star Trek has been around for close to 40 years in different incarnations, and the Matrix has the same makings as something that is part of pop culture and can last a while...
