[Matrix Reloaded]
Neo: "So we need machines and they need us. Is that your point, Councillor?"
Councillor Hamann: "No, no point. Old men like me don't bother with making points. There's no point."
Neo: "Is that why there are no young men on the Council?"
Councillor Hamann: "Good point."

another context of christianity

obviously the merovingian was an important machine programme...

if the architect is god and the merovingian has been around since the beginning then perhaps he is a representation of ADAM and persephone is EVE

in this context then theyre 2 main servants in reloaded are the twins who would then represent CAIN and ABLE

just another thought

A MAJOR,FULL ON BRONSON

First of all, Adam has not been around since the beggining. Satan has been around a lot longer than Adam. And if you remember, Cain Killed Able, while the twins seem to get together just fine. Another note: Persephone, in Greek mythology, was the wife of Hades, which clearly makes the Merovingian ruler of the underworld.

Duality noted that the Architect didn't seem very nice, and therefore probably isn't God the Father. Well, in gnosticism, Yahweh, or Ialdabaoth, is not nice at all. They believe that he created the world out of vain, and is therefore evil. He is also called the Abomination. This is a quite different consept from the Christian idea of God.

Many people have said that Agent Smith represented sin, not Satan in particular. What they are forgeting is that Satan is the symbolic and physical personification of sin. Besides, him simply representing sin is too abstract of an idea to be very interesting.

Lastly, we should take a step out of the Matrix for a bit. How do the machines fit into all this?

The reason for using the Adam and Eve comparison for Meravingion and Persephone is....

in Pauline theology Adam is considered the first perfect man. Jesus is seen as a perfect man after Adam (restoring humanity to its prior statr of favour with God).

Satan is also the result of a fall. Only his fall is a fall of the angels and some go to hell with him while others are not fallen.

It seems clear that characters within the matrix do not have a clear personal link with each person in the bible. Instead they have a more intricate link with elements of Christian theology. Christian theology sometimes picks up traces of the pagan culture found amongst its original adherents so the use of pagan Gods in the names does not take away the christian meanings.

"I am more than man, more than life! I am a GOD!"
