your thinking of jesus, but even thou jesus was in human form he did not get angry, so this might count this theory out, but i can see all the hints that point this out.

neo says: "iam the 1" architect says: "no your the 6th 1" neo says: "wwwoooohh"

If your definition of God is by the qualities above - I feel sorry for you. God (Judaism, Christianity, Islam) is all powerful, all knowing, perfect being that created all things - not a "WHOA DUDE!" guy who can run up a wall.

He seemed pretty ticked off when he ran around overturning the tables of the merchants in the temple.

I couldn't agree more. The God of Christianity is all that plus a loving merciful God will forgive you of sin if you just ask

What is god in your defination?
The source is everything and nothing. Now, i'm not refering to DEM, but the tao. The spirit of the universe.
From this, the one is born, and shall return. In some cultures, they call their god the one.
The one is the being of the source. And is.
So the answer is, yes. Neo is somewhat like a god

God is not someone tahat can do "this things and a lot more". God is a perfect being (I mean PERFECT) who is capable of doing ANYTHING. His power is limitless!

When going to 01 he couldn't stop the sentinels so they fly through clouds. He has a limit like everyone has.

If God has no limits, why is there evil and suffering in the world? Surely if God has no limits he can do ANYTHING ie. allow free will AND remove suffering - even if it were shown to be logically impossible (which is debatable).

So a perfectly good God likes to have suffering in the world for reasons we can't understand.... and you are accepting that?

Belief in God is hard enough. Acceptance of God is even harder!

I dont think Neo can be considered a more supreme being in the Matrix (or Zion) than anyone else...

He is just another piece in the puzzle, that has to follow a certain path in order for everything to continue; as the Oracle says: "The path of the one is made by the many". So everyone has just as much influence on the story as Neo...

And if Neo is considered God, then Smith is just as much God (perhaps even more...)

And regarding the issue whether God is supreme and limitless or not:

Neo represents God. We are not saying that he actually IS God within the story.

Generally it is seen that Neo vs Smith is Christ vs the whole of human sin.

Ehhh, I don't know. Given human nature...

Agent Smith (M1) wrote:

Did you know that the first Matrix was designed to be a perfect human world where none suffered , where everyone would be happy? It was a disaster. No one would accept the program. Entire crops were lost. Some believe that we lacked the programming language to describe your perfect world. But I believe that as a species, human beings define their reality through misery and suffering. So the perfect world was a dream that your primitive cerebrum kept trying to wake up from.

Only a theory of course, but it makes a certain kind of sense. Once again, it all comes down to free will and choice. Consider the first paradise we had, the Garden of Eden. If you believe the Bible, or at least the Old Testament, it is quite clear that Adam and Eve lacked for nothing in the Garden and were happy, but what happened?

Genesis wrote:

SERPENT: Psssst, hey! Eve! Try this forbidden fruit! It's really good.

EVE: Yay!

(EVE eats the forbidden fruit and gains knowledge. Enter ADAM)

ADAM: Eve, isn't that the fruit God told us, y'know, not to eat?

EVE: Yeah! Have a bite, it tastes great.

ADAM: Sweet!

(ADAM eats the forbidden fruit and gains knowledge. Enter GOD)

ADAM: Oh, bugger.

(ADAM and EVE play Hide 'n Seek with GOD. GOD wins, being GOD)

GOD: You ate the forbidden fruit, didn't you?

ADAM: She made me do it!

(ADAM points at EVE)

EVE: He made me do it!

(EVE points at ADAM)

GOD: Whatever. I was going to give the pair of you a second chance, but you just blew it by playing the Blame Game. Out of the Garden, both of you. Enjoy the real world.

ADAM: This is all your fault.

(ADAM and EVE play the Blame Game some more)

Everything begins with choice. Including suffering.

Kids! Bringing about Armageddon can be dangerous. Do not attempt it in your home.

The thing is what is the point in putting a tree there and saying "don't eat from this" without explaining why?

It does not seem obvious that we wouldn't be happy without suffering at all. Besides, what about people who suffer EXTREME suffering and tragedy. Other people went through their whole lives without it, so what is special about that minority - is God punishing them or does he just have 'funny moods' occasionally?

I'm afraid the genesis story isn't enough to explain this and the book of Job says as much....

Quote:

God: Job's a nice bloke and he likes me a lot

Satan: Hmmph! He'd turn on you in a second if you pissed him off.

(God destroys Job's family and his land and all his possesions.)

God: There you go! He still likes me. And after I was so horrible too!

Satan: Ah! But you only destroyed things around him. If you inflict him too then he'll turn against you.

(God inflicts Job with nasty disease and makes him starving)

Job: Right that's it! I can't accept God anymore.

Religious Teachers: Look, it's simple. You're a bad person and God is punishing you.

Job: That's a load of rubbish! Other people are much worse than me and some of them are rich and content.

(Debate goes on for some time, with Job going as far as to say that he wishes he had never been born)

God: I am so great and you are so little in comparison to me. What makes you think you can judge me?
Anyway you've been a good kid, so i'm curing your illness and here's a new family and some land and stuff.

Job: Um, thanks God. Blooming 'eck I guess you're ok after all.... *shrugs*

Well there you go. All sorted then! :s

I like to think of Neo as MEGA-GOD! Because God is good and all, but Neo fights! When I see God fight like that, then maybe I will reconsider and God can be Mega-God, but until then, go Neo!

To me Neo isn't a God, more than he is a savior, and a martyr.

Neo isn't God.
Various characters represent God, but he isn't one of them.
The Architect represents a creator-God like Brahma in Hinduism. He created the world, but doesn't run it. He is detached; watching and not interfering. The scene at the end of Revolutions was akin to the Lord walking through the Garden of Eden.
The Oracle is not a Judeo-Christian view of God, but again is best compared to an example from Hinduism: Kali. Through her is death and rebirth (or growth). Could she have told everyone exactly what would happen? Sure. But then none of them would have grown (Neo wouldn't have risked his life for Morpheus if the Oracle had told him he was the One, for example).
Finally, there is Deus Ex Machina: the Infinite God, from whom all other lesser gods proceed. This is fairly obvious, so I need not explain it.
Neo is not God. He is where Buddha meets Christ. He died for everyone in an enlightened state.

It does. It's what the Merovingian calls Seraph in Revolutions in the Club Hel scene. Seraph is by far my favorite character (see the importance of seraph thread for my thoughts on him).

I dont think Neo represents god. No matter what religion you look at whether it be christian, muslim, hindu, taoist, buddhist, or catholic, there is always one god, even in a religion of many gods, there is one all powerful god and one human that understands i.e. ; Allah and Abraham, God and Jesus, the "way" and buddha. Neo represents the one human whoNeo represents God.

Isn't everyone here aware that the Architect and the Oracle represent God within the matrix?

Architect = reason, intellect

Oracle = emotion, consiousness

Right.

Just like D.E.M. represents the machine God, on earth.

Neo is not God, to me he's a hybrid, machine/human.
