The ending - it stirkes me that the problem with the ending is how utterly unworkable PEACE is.

1) All the humans to be released -so there is no more matrix. Fine. But how will the machines generate power? Won't there be a huge amount of resentement from those released because they have been violated by the machines?

2) Where will the humans live? Zion does not look particularly hospitable, and most humans would want to live on the surface. But that is where the machines live.

3) The sunrise at the end- all very nice but that is in "architect and friends" world. The real world is still lightening and misery.

Just a further question in that:
How long must it take those few humans "the one" selects to rebuild zion? It was trashed 6 or 7 times before.

Hey.
1. Oracle said "those who want to be unplugged", so I don't think everyone will be unplugged, and I think they could do tv series, books, movies, video games, music, and comics untill the end of time (like Star Trek) exploring the nooks and crannies of The Matrix, i.e., how does this information (and Neo, for that matter) diseminate in the Matrix, how does Zion rebuild and coixist with Machine City, etc. There would be, theoretically, three Locations: Zion, Machine City, and the Matrix, where they can communicate. The Architect said "there are levels of existence that we are prepared to accept," so he had a propability or two figured out in the eventuality that Neo chooses Trinity. What he did not know was that Neo would sacrifice himself to the Matrix and eradicate Smith. There is now Neo code in the Matrix code. There is humanity in the code, so now that perfect world can exist without the manipulation of the Machines. Without their control. There is also a species of intelligent, free thinking programs running and reproducing inside the matrix. A new species has evolved.

2. Coexistance is the deal the Source made with Neo to eradicate Smith. The Architect later stated that of course the Machines would unplug anyone who wanted to be unplugged. The Oracle Asked if he was really willing to let them go (doesn't that suggest a resignation to a change in thier present "level of existance"?) and he said "I said I would. What do you think I am, human?", suggesting that if a war does start again, it will be because humans start it. And to what extext the Machines will allow Human encroachment in the real world is unknown. Also, I think humans are going to need the Machines and the Matrix as a "nursery" until they are able to either wait out the planet to clean itself up or find a way to clean the atmosphere to be livable again.
