[Matrix Reloaded]
Ballard: "You're asking for one of us to disobey a direct order."
Morpheus: "That's right, I am. But we well know that the reason most of us are here is because of our affinity for disobedience."

spoliers below, of course.

There's a good number of things I don't understand. I really want to like this movie, but its getting harder and harder the more I think of it.

So, on with the questions:

Why can Neo do things in the real world? Yes I heard her say that his poower comes from the source. Does that mean he is linked to the matrix, or the machine network (collective for all us Trek watchers) and was just causing them to self destruct and such?

Why did Smith explode? Was it because of Neo's nature, and that his power and consciousness just "elminated" smith? Did he trick him into trying to assimilate him for this purpose? Or, did the machines kill smith with that big jolt they give Neo's body?

What is the nature of Sati? Sati in the Hindu religion is the act of commiting suicide by fire over ones dead husband. Does her "sunrise" have any significance?

Why would the machines allow the humans to leave the matrix? They need the humans to provide power to themselves. Its not like they were keeping the humans all plugged in because it was fun, it was for their survival. So Neo killed Smith, that doesn't mean they don't need power. also related; no machines don't lie (though an AI can be programmed to lie easily enough) but they also have no sense of honor. They wouldn't kill themselves because of a promise simply because they promised to do so.

Is Neo dead? As far as I can tell, nothing happened to his human body to cause death, and everyone else recovered from being "smithed" so why would he be dead? It looks like they might have assimilated him into the source, so would he be walking around like or as a program now?

only the programs survived being smithed... sati, seraph, and the oracle... i assume that if mirv and persephone and all the other programs were smithed, then they would be normal too

Sati in hindi means pure one.

as far as this queston goes 'Why would the machines allow the humans to leave the matrix?' i'm confused with that and would like someone to explian that.

I think that, as it was stated above, all the programs that were overwritten by Smith survived while all the Machine's Human crops (The Matrix dwellers) were killed as a result of being infected. As for how Neo can do the things he does in the "Real world," I'm going to revert back to the MiM theory. It just seems like the most logical explanation.
