Seraph is definitely not a previous One, but I don't quite understand his character. He is a program and he says he is 'the keeper of that which matters most.'He is obviously a program written to protect the Oracle. But I wouldn't think the machines would go so far to protect her... I guess I do pretty much understand Seraph, but not Sati... Neutral

Hi everyone, my first post.

I don't think Seraph is a previous One, but then again he obviously appears differently to everyone else. Someone said above that all Exiles probably appear in the glowing gold, but that can't be the case because Neo had previously met the Oracle and wasn't taken aback by the gold... then again that was when he didn't see everything in the Matrix in code... but even when talking to the Oracle after meeting Seraph he still thinks of Seraph as different.

According to Hindu Mythology Sati was the first wife of Lord Shiva. She burnt herself to protest the fact that Shiva was insulted by her father (King Daksha). She is supposed to be reborn as Parvati who becomes Shiva's second wife. Parvati is supposed to be Source of all the Indian Godesses (Shakti cult).
Sati is also the act of the wife burning herself in the funeral pyre of her husband.

Seems the machines DO want to protect the Oracle since the Oracle helps guide the One to the Architect and then the source. As we all know, the machines need the One to reboot the Matrix, etc. to avoid a crash of the entire Matrix (and, hence, the energy source for the machines . . . .). Thus, the machines need the Oracle to stay alive. (Tho, there was a new-faced oracle in M3, not sure what that was all about. I guess the Oracles bodies are disposable so long as there is still an oracle).

Thus, that makes sense that the machines would have a pretty powerful fighter (i.e., Seraph) who can beat an agent if necessary to protect the Oracle. It's like a system of checks-and-balances.

Hmm...by why couldn't the machines just make the Oracle invulnerable (to agents etc.) and do away w/ the bodyguard? I guess, they would if they could, but perhaps the nature of the Matrix and it's imperfections and anomolies, etc. prevent them from doing so. Thus, they do the next best thing and give the Oracle a body guard? Hmm....

Man-o-Man, the prequel potential is enormous!
