i just saw the 3rd movie (sneak preview in Boston). It was by far the worst movie I've ever seen. There were no deep mysteries resolved.. just 2 hours of crap.

Do you think maybe they did this on purpose?

to give you an idea about how bad it was....

Neo: "Trinity.. you can't die"
Trinity: "Yes I can"

Ive gotta say I agree with him. The film sucked pretty bad. The battle for Zion was awesome, really awsome, I should say now that it was worth watching the whole thing for it! But the acting is diabolical and the script is even worse. All in all I found the film was rather contrived, and had little content. If they didnt have content to fill it with then why fill it with a load'a'shit, instead of a bunch of fun fight scenes. There are many cringe-worthy moments like Trinity declaring her love for him (could she die any slower? for a second time too!), Neo pushing his fist into Agent Smiths face in slow-mo (what was with that, was it meant to be funny, cos it sure as hell was, sadly in at a time that didnt require a bit of humour), then u had him repeating the "come get some" hand gesture from the first film which you could tell was coming a mile off, and the little girl (aagghhh the little girl! Wallbash ) and the Christian stuff, I mean come on, with the cross of light and the crucifiction pose, talk about making a point! <sigh> Ah well, I've had my rant, its just I was disappointed with most of the film. Apart from the Zion bit! Those APUs were some of the coolest designed vehicles Ive ever seen! and there animation was superb!

I'm off to see Revolutions on Saturday...
I've just been reading some of your comments, and I feel extremely ill.
I'm almost having panic-attacks.. Shocked
Is it really THAT BAD? Thumbdown
Is there nothing left for us to discuss? Sad
I'm going to post some pictures, I'm feeling incredibly depressed...

No it's vice versa. Everything is left open for discussion. I could leave this site as it is:
"Who is the mother?"
"Who is the Merovingian?"
"Is Zion fake?"

No answers.

I thought the movie was brilliant. However, I honestly don't think the people who are trashing it are. The movie never even gave any attempt to give anyone answers, and that's the whole plot of the movie. To make your own questions and answers. Thus, KNOW THYSELF. The oracle points to the sign time after time after time.

Another indicator is at the very beginning, Morpheus:"What is real? If real is something that you can touch, feel, taste, then real is just electrical signals being sent to your brain. The whole of the scenes with the oracle+ smith at her apartment and smith's speech right at the very end are a dead giveaway.

Who is the mother? Obviously the first time we hear this question raised we automatically think of it as the Oracle? Who else could be referred to as "an Intuitive program created to investigate the various aspects of the human psyche" (intuition: having a gut feeling of what is to come) program? Persephone? All she does is sample emotions because Merv isn't giving her the data that fullfills her programs purpose.

Smith pretty much knocks the idea of Pers. being thte mother right out of the water. Right before he starts to smash the plate of cookies the oracle made, he does call her (the oracle) mother. Furthermore, she explains to Neo when he asks the equivalent of what her and the architect are, "He is here to balance the equation, I am here to unbalance the equation" If that doesn't draw a parallel between "If I am the father of the matrix, then she would undoubtedly be it's mother" I have no clue what does. Again, at the very end of the movie when the architect meets the oracle at the sunset/sunrise they are obviously intended to be seen as relating to each other in some type of parallel fashion.

As to what Zion and the Matrix are, it seems pretty much implied that they just ARE, they are being and not being, for no reason, and for every reason that could have existed, because as much as we wan't to, we can't justify our physical existence. To try to is what I believe they call indirect association. Imagine one of us saying my life is real because I'm alive and because I feel things. While we try to justify our existence, we can't because we've never been existed anywhere BUT "here". To prove something is true you have to have a reference point from which you justify your answer. Example: If i throw something up, it will ALWAYS come down. Being as you can't see all ends your argument is rendered invalid.

Sometimes great work is left ambiguous because the writer/writers put careful thought into allusions, symbols, and motifs to consruct a masterpeice that people can interpretate and reinterprate for many years to come. Mediocre work tries to miimc the traits of that kind of work. And the kind of people who think mediocre work is brilliant can be bullshitted anything and they will believe it.

The matrix 3 was a missed opportunity to do something special, but I guess we can learn from this that there really is no subsitute for your own imagination. Hollywood is driven to make money, not to make work of great content. The Matrix started off as something different, and sadly became watered down by the indifferent machine of hollywood.

I cant think of revolutions and reloaded as two separate films, they are just one plot. Do they give us all the answers? NO, but they do ask more questions. I was very happy with the end and Neo's choice to voluntarily participate in the sorrows of the world, it was really inspiring. Although some reviews said there was no action scene to top the highway chase I disagree the invasion of Zion was awesome.
Smith was right all along, he finds unble to understand his choice.
I think the dialogue was not as good as the first one, but the even with a "weaker" delivery of lines by the new Oracle; she still kicked my ass about the Architect's speech. The little dialogue was short and to the point. While the exiles didn't take a huge role as they did in Reloaded, I was happy to see the movie didn't try to explain them. I think people went to a movie expecting lots of answers and they encountered additional questions on karma, love and freedom. We expected a charismatic hero defeat the bad guy, we found ONE purpose in two characters and their mythical connection.

Revolutions was good, it answered the questions it needed to end the movie, while leaving a big blank page for our imagination. It doesn't offer a hollywood end of satisfaction, but it does satisfy it's legacy. I do see the 3 movies as one peice of work.

You're forgetting, The Matrix wasn't about answers, it was about questions. Which would you rather have, all the answers handed to you on a silver platter, or to search for them yourself?

To all you sci-fi sheep out there, stop asking everybody else to answer your questions for you. To align myself with others, Revolutions is all about 'why' not 'what' or 'when'!

To those who haven't seen it - Revolutions is like somebody saying to you "I am going to convey to you a story that will change your life, make you see the world from the greatest perspective of all and enthrall your mind" and then adding at the last moment "and I'll just throw in some cool effects in the form of a big yummy chocolate cake."

Bottomline: great movie

"who think mediocre work is brilliant"

Mediocrity and brilliance are subjective terms and can't be applied to an object, i.e. this film. So in a way also have to admit I was a bitch and take back my nasty comment on people who didn't like it being "not brilliant".
As for me or others believing anything we're fed I'd really have to disagree as I've had quite my fair share of experiences and not been led to swallow everything that's been pushed down my throat.

The Matrix: Reloaded and The Matrix: Revolutions were filmed back to back, mind you. They were to be one film then were passed off as two to form a trilogy. It would be understandable that the latter of these two felt like a shorter and less fulfilling film.

But then what makes a satisfactory movie? Did the Wachowskis send a survey to every doorstep of a nation that provided their works witht he most profits to see what would make them happy with Matrix 3? No.

Like a few have pointed out, the original movie left you only asking questions with very few answered. One question would be answered opening another set of questions to be asked. And in my mind that makes for a powerful movie.

Sure, diss it all you want. You are free to, everyone has an opinion. But at the end of the day a lot of you that visit this site will be sat there in your free time wondering what really happened and waiting for more to answer your questions. Wouldn't you say that the trilogy has had an impact on you as such if this is the case?

I wasn't overly impressed with the film, I'll admit that. But at the same time, I personally feel glad that a mystery remains. It means sites and communites like this can continue to thrive with new concepts and ideas to the unexplained. Not only that, but keep the Matrix alive in a sense.

As for me, I feel the same as I felt after the first one... (What?) I had to see the first one a few times before I pulled as much as I could out of it. Same with the second. I suggest before anybody passes judgements on the finale, please go see see it a couple more times. If you are on this site, you obviously understand the Matrix. Give it some time... possibly wait for Four?

I do have one HUGE question though... what's with the little girl? Please give me some suggestions.

By the way... This movie served its PURPOSE, how many forums fill up for Sleepless in Seatle?

The spoilers I read last week explain more than the film ever did. So from the dialogue I picked up from the film I can only assume that Sati is the daughter of Rama (a human) and his wife, a program. That would mean she a key role to the bondings between man and machine.

I agree with those who believe that the movie was what it needed to be. No, there was no MWM. No, there was no magical intellectual script beyond what many creative minds here considered.

In Reloaded we were taught that Zion was the remainder to an equation. The Architect wants the equation balanced; his job is perfection. It was the conclusion of myself, as well as most of my friends, that a remainder must be balanced to balance an equation. Enter Smith. The Architect said that Neo must re-insert himself into the source. He did. As soon as Smith took in Neo's anti-virus properties The Source ate both of them and started Matrix v.8. What the hell is the controversy?

"Who is the mother?"
You have so many posts on this board and you didn't realize the mother was the oracle? Smith calls her mother and she is almost if not the exact opposite of the architec who is the father.

"Who is the Merovingian?"
Was this not explained in reloaded? Hes a very old powerful program. What more do you want?

"Is Zion fake?
Their was never indications that Zion might be fake. Unless you believed the matrix within the matrix theory, which the wachowski brothers didn't therefore their was no reason to "answer" that question in the movie.

People are never satisfied

The little girl aka "the last exile" could control the weather. When smith absorbed her he could control the weather too. Hence the last scene was filled with rain. Dunno why maybe Smith thought having rain in would make the last battle more epic.

ps - Sati, the little girl, may symbolize rebirth. Her New Purpose might be to simulate a better sun in The Matrix.

Ride the spiral to the end; you may just go where no one's been.
